So, fandoms are colliding. Case in point:
  • Bones having Angel's Angel and Hamilton together in a scene.

  • Medium having Firefly's Badger and Niska together in a scene.

I just...thought I'd point that out? Because I kinda want to do art about it but not now?

Speaking of Medium, I watched the third episode with Mark Sheppard (although really, the first one is a lie, because it has Mark saying two lines and then it's nothing but sitting there staring at the screen, consumed by lust, waiting for his character to show up again and he never does, at least not Mark-shaped). It made me rant at the screen.

So I'm going to rant at the screen again, in typed form. Because GRR ARGH. In which a woman is in labour and I do not agree with solution - and sentiments. )

I've been going absolutely crazy these past few hours trying to find something on the internet. And I know it's there - I saw it before! But here I am going through all my Nanowrimo-era links and googling till I can't google no more and nothing. (And it doesn't help that one of my links has died.)

In Time for Something Biblical, Icarus calls the infected "Sons of Kezel" and at the time I thought it was the most brilliant and apt name ever. I'm pretty sure I got this name through a search of names - angels, demons, fallen angels, I can't be sure - and I found the name-bearer to have some sort of logical affiliation with the infected - either "grr, argh" or the colour red. I'm leaning towards the "red" theory because all I've been able to google out of the damn internet is related to that, but I was certain it was some sort of biblical entity because that's why it was so awesome that they were "Sons of".

The river today is the Uizhun and flows east of Lake Urmia into the Caspian Sea. Also known as the Kezel Uzun (long gold) or the Uzun (dark red/gold)... (here)

Prof. Sayce renders Gubarra, "Fire-flame," and observes that the Sumerian Gubarra is an older form of the Akkadian Afubarra, and that the form gis-bar ("fire") shows that the original name was Gnsbarra; gus, "the sky," gus, "fire," and gus^qin, "the yellow metal" (gold) being connected words. Kibir-ra and Gibil are "dialectal forms of Gubarra." With gus compare the Uigur kis, kiz, 'fiery,' 'warm,' the Tchagatai kizi, 'warm,' the Kazan kizil, 'red,' the Kirgish kizil, 'beautiful,' the Aderbijan kizil, 'gold,' 'red,' the Osmanli kiz-mak, the Koibal-Karagass kezel, 'red,' etc... (here)

In short: Argh!

Anyone else feel like a futile internet search? Please?

ETA: I swear to fucking gods on high if I meant Kezef the Angel of Punishment (Wrath and Destruction), I will eat my hat. I will actually go out, buy, momentarily own and then consume that hat.

...I totally meant Kezef, didn't I?

Sickle Has A Request: So I finally read through The Last Wild Angel - that story that in a fit of insanity I've decided to try and send to a magazine - enough to edit it a little and put it in manuscript format. However, I have some editorial questions of the "What should I dooooo?" and "Is this okay? Tell me it's okay!" variety. So does anyone care to beta? Please?

Sickle Writes (And Has Another Sort-Of Request): Day before yesterday - because I've been lax in posting - I finally finished typing out the notes I'd made for Time for Something Biblical, listing all the characters', set and plot details. It's on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories, but flocked, which y'all know I never do on [livejournal.com profile] bending_sickle, because I'm apparently more paranoid about my half-formed creative ideas being open to the world than I am about my life.

I went to sleep quite late because I just can't come up with a title for the sequel. I know it's ridiculous, because I haven't even started writing it and I barely know what's going to happen, but I'm obsessed with finding the right title. Time for Something Biblical was such a perfect title, what with the apocalypse and the angel and all. Now I'm scouring the internet and quotes and books for anything that'll work, preferrably starting of with "Time For", and, if I want to be really picky, a Muse lyric - not because I like Muse, because I don't overmuch, but because I did the same with TFSB and its chapter titles and argh.

The titles I've got listed - where the one I most like is the first one - include: Read more... )

Random thought: I do really weird fanmixes. I've never done a proper, actually-related-to-fandom fanmix. The best I could do on that front is making a fanmix of all the songs I want to make into fanvids, but that's a bit odd, even for me. My mixes are all about long-distance relationships and obsessive compulsive disorder and chronic homesickness and gods know I might end up doing a mix on fish one of these days. I've already got two three songs in mind, and I didn't even have to think hard: Dawn of BtVS's "Anchovies" song, Monty Python's "Slapping Fish" song, and "It's a Long Way from Amphioxus". Crazy little Sickle.

Other News: Yestrday was a Bad Day in terms of Mother-Daughter relationships, where Daughter is all, "You don't listen to me! I just want you to say something positive for once! Show you care!" and Mother is all, "Don't talk to me in that tone!" and Daughter's all, "That tone is me begging you to show me you love me!" so you can imagine how wonderful I feel at the moment.

bending_sickle: (Talking To Myself)
Okay, this has happened once in my life already, but:

Oh my gods, it's fucking Friday?!?

What the hell?! Has the week been that slow? I thought it was Saturday! But then why couldn't I make an appointment at the doctor's? Why?!? That's fucking it, tomorrow I'm calling the emergency number and getting an appointment at the post in the hospital. I am not waiting two more days with this shite.

Also, I'm bored out of my mind and knitting like a mofo and if I stop even for one second I'm going to cry my eyes out for no discernible reason. And there's no food in the house at all. Again. I have seen no one because I FAIL AT LIFE. Please shoot me.

* [livejournal.com profile] etcet, on this [livejournal.com profile] ljdq
bending_sickle: (Default)
So today I tried to call the doctor to make an appointment (instead of yesterday, which is when I should've) because they said they were open "every day", making no mention of weeks and weekends. The first time I called (after even getting dressed to go out, because I'd do anything to put off making a phonecall), there's a recording in Dutch giving various phone numbers and saying something about, "Out for lunch, back at 2." I called again at 2 and got a different recording saying how they were closed on weekends, and I could call this number if it were an emergency.

So now I don't know what to do, whether to hold out until Monday and pray they can see me before the end of Tuesday (and they can put me on whatever delectable antibiotics I need) or whether to go for the Emergency! side. Sickle fails to make good plans and instead goes quietly insane. )

Also, at the Biology Building, I've been twice introduced to new Spanish ladies either working or studying there. One was introduced to me by Moon, the receptionist with whom I speak Spanish because he's trying not to lose the language, because the lady was right there. It went well. The second was introduced to me by my previous supervisor simply because the lady was Spanish and therefore I had to meet her. It didn't go so well, for a number of reasons. A girl's gotta rant about something. )

By the way, both my supervisors will be out of the country during my graduation, and any teachers I may have had during this program wouldn't know who I am anyway (they taught me way back in 2007) or aren't Biology teachers, so I will be speechified by the professor who helped me with the computer programs while I was working on my last project. I feel like such a failure for not having anyone.

Furthermore, I had nothing for lunch but the last dregs of the potato sack, fried. It was either than, or pasta again. Or a slice of cheese. I fail at life.

On the plus side: snow.

I'll get right into why today was, again, made of utter, utter fail and not in the awesome way of [livejournal.com profile] made_of_fail_pc at all but first I need to rant and rave about fucking conversions of goddamned geographic locations that suck ass. Cue grrargh-ism, with cussing, rage and things I will regret saying so harshly or, in fact, at all, but right now all I can think of is grrarrgh )

Other reasons today suck include:

1) waking up at embarrasingly late hours
2) starting work at so way past noon it's almost 1 pm
3) lunch made of little more than fail
4) hours spent trying to collage together photographs of a map to make a single unified map photo ending in fantastic fail
5) afore-ranted faaaaaaiiiiiiil
6) freezing to death in a wool sweater and fleece jacket, pining for gloves, in the office

Oh sweet gods... In my earlier post I said how today was turning out to be a shitty day, and hoo-boy has it hung onto that theme. I stopped work early (on account of suckitude and fail of apocalyptic proportions) went to the supermarket for food, forgot honey (which means tomorrow's breakfast will suck Lucifer's balls, and not in a, "Ooh, Prince of Seduction and Lust" way, but in a "Sulpher and rotten eggs and boils" way), was utterly, pathetically uncoordinated at Zumba, got strongly worded memos from both my knees, spilt my hot chocolate and burnt my hand (because, no, we can't have anything nice and failed to be in bed by any reasonable hour.

In other news, remember how when I was in Toronto I got my hair cut at downtown's Hair.fx? And I squeed a bit because my hairdresser Paulo (or Paul, at work) was a) really, really good, b) very sweet and c) gorgeous? Well, mom sent me a link today ;)

I've just lost four hours of work comprising of two identification sheets covering eleven observations, I'm working on a pathetically slow computer that took about half an hour to cough up the VLC program and my mouse finger is basically crying in a corner.

To add to that, I've been extremely late to work this week and, at Einstein's on Wednesday, bumped into Elisa who said she needs to talk to me and that she'll call me, or I can call her, which is upsetting in the "Doom! Dooom!" sense and also in the "If you want to talk to me, you call me (as well you could have before bumping into me by chance)."

Also I'm eating half a Kitkat (or maybe the whole thing), have been having mad cravings, can't seem to lose weight and my period just went peek-a-boo and then retracted in a way that is totally not normal.

Additionally, I finally wrote that email I was avoiding and have yet to get a response and I'm making a very conscious decision out of respect for the emailee to not discuss this on LIvejournal (yet) but by gods I could've used some talking.

Lastly, my Links of the Day backlog is long and horrible.

But mainly I'm pissed as all hell that I've just lost four hours of work that cost me a few years of life off my hands and eyes. Fuck.

The only good thing about today is that I didn't get molested by that damn wasp that keeps hovering inches away from my face whenever I have lunch outside in front of the Natural Museum. Seriously and literally in front of my face. Also, talked with mom and that actually went very well. \o/ Also, Friday, so no work tomorrow, which is a good thing.

Also, please note my sudden lapse from past sense to present tense in my descriptions. I've always had this damned problem and just can't seem to shake it.

ETA: My Bloody Valentine, while also bad, is such in a good way. Ranting at stupid victims in horror movies is cathartic and Jensen is pretty (even if I like him evil, like in El Pollo Loco, more than I like him scared). The gore is cringeworthy because I have an imagination, not because the lousy CGI does a good job. Pick-axes should not got there!

ETA 2: Apparently the 3D effects are awesome, so I can't really say anything about the CGI. Maybe it's only garishly obvious because I'm not watching it in 3D.

ETA 3: Why do people equate "spent time at a mental institution" with "psychotic mass-murdering fiend"? Gah.

You know, I never had a complaint over Vista. Ever. Up until now, of course. Trials, travesties and tribulations. )

In sum, y'all know of an all-female cellist band playing modern music? (Or violins, maybe.)

ETA: I think I've found all the fanmixes I had except one that had Tracy Chapman's You're the One. If the universe hates me, and I'm sure it does, that elusive song that I bloody loved that was all violins and cellos and no lyrics whatsoever was on that mix. The mixer said the song reminded them of River fighting. Why can't I remember important and helpful details?!?

ETA 2: BOND! Four hours of searching and brain-wracking, I step into the shower, and bam, total recall. Just watch the song not being trailer-appropriate. (Once I track it down, that is.) \o/ Yay for remembering!
