bending_sickle: (Roarin' Fili)
It turns out that in the whole month I've only written one single entry which...yeah, sorry about that. Everything is still very much status quo, in that I've done another Italian course and I've kept going to therapy. I haven't done very much of anything else. There's been some anxiety, some shouting, some let's just lie down and pretend we don't exist.

Although lately I've been riding a do all the things! wave which doesn't go beyond the thought that I could, indeed, do all the things, but I never actually do them. I just come up with grand ideas of how I could study Italian, German, French, and Mandarin, clean out my entire room, start up a vigorous exercise routine, organize some 10,000 words of headcanon into an actual story, and of course, find an apartment in Berlin and also take up baking courses, go back to school, send out all the job applications... I think you get the idea of what my brain has been doing. (Being a little shit is what it's been doing.)

Also this past week I seem to have been all over the place and hello, impulsivity in that I skipped class twice (which I never ever do) and splurged on high-heeled shoes which, should I trip, will undoubtedly result in a broken nose and ankle. I mean, I've always wanted pumps, but still. My buy all the things! battle-cry is pretty unusual, considering I can spend ten minutes pep-talking myself into buying a stick of gum. ("Do you really want the gum? Is it worth spending money on this?")

In other news, I continue to be incapable of reading books (or articles, or paragraphs, or anything because what is attention span) which is why I have about a thousand started and in various states of completion. I'm slightly better at watching things, and have made my way through much of Richard Armitage's filmography (Spooks, Strike Back, and currently Robin Hood) and I also sobbed my way through Being Human (UK).

But basically, my supply of squee seems to have petered out (except for brief moments where I start dancing in my bedroom and everything is awesome, which, what?)

Oh, and I've discovered Macklemore's The Heist album and want to cuddle it forever.

In conclusion: the status quo continues and I might just die here.

Quote of the Day: Clive Barker, here (as quoted by Neil Gaiman)
If you get loud, everyone else gets louder to top you. And then everyone's shouting and nobody's listening. If you want everyone to listen to you, get quieter. People will listen.

Okay wow I've had these Links of the Day accumulating since the start of November. Sorry about that.

So...I haven't done a proper update entry since June 18th. *sheepish look* Yeah, well, nothing much going on, really.

Still horribly unemployed and basically unable to deal with doing anything about it because I happen to like shooting myself in the foot. The brother's been trying to run intervention on this, but seeing as his pep talks leave me weeping in the corner for the rest of the day, not so much with the helping, that one. Read more... )

I've been trying to do things, though, even if I haven't been actively looking for a job.

(Well, I tried twice. Once, I didn't find anything and ended up crying over, well, my life and my [horribly uninformed] choices, and the other time I actually sent out an application, so, y'know, success.)

Basically the things I've been doing include diving headfirst into Teen Wolf and not getting behind on Tumblr (the tiny little sparks of joy in my life), writing up the code for those travel posts (which I keep pushing through mainly because I try to finish what I start, but also because [livejournal.com profile] chaosvizier is awesome and provides hilarious captions to the photographs, making it all worthwhile), and making fanart. Oh, I've also stuck pretty well to an exercise regime this past week, even though the temperature here is murderous. Seriously, it's mid thirties all the time and yes that includes goddamnit I want to sleep but instead I'm lying here sweating time.

So that's how I am. A little bit of "lalala I'm not listening", some "let's go into emotional hiberanation!" and some "I. Am. Going. To Die." existential panic. \o/ Anyway, have some thingies I made and some links.

Not dead, not dead, calm your horses. Some days I don't even remember I have a Livejournal. *sigh* Anyway, nothing new happening. I've sent out a few job applications, haven't heard back from any of them so far but, eh, *fingers crossed* right?

But enough about soul-sucking things. In the list of things that are making me happy I've recenty added Tom Hiddleston (my tumblr tag), because he's a precious ray of sunshine. In the list I have a lot of feels about I've added Loki (my tumblr tag), because of his sibling relationship with Thor, his identity crisis, his "fuck this, I'm going to be evil" snap, and basically all the angst. Shock of shocks, I know. So there's that.

Also I made fanart for Supernatural, The Hunger Games and a Game of Thrones/Thor crossover: Read more... )

Still looking for a job, when I can pull myself together enough for it, and as for everything else, meh, same old. Mom was gone for a week, which was nice, and I got along a lot better with my dad with her gone. Things are back to the not-so-good now with the folks.

In other news, I now have a Craig Parkinson situation. That's on top of the Andrew Scott and Benedict Cumberbatch one. "Watch ALL their things" is my battle cry.

As for Supernatural, *shakes fist* I'm hanging on out of stubborness, a love for the characters, and the faint hope that certain minor characters will come back or will have their stories resolved, but all I'm getting is pain. Come on, Show.

Oh, and Game of Thrones Season 2 is coming this week. \o/

In other, other news, I made a fanmix for Charlaine Harris' The Harper Connelly Mysteries series:

*waves* Still alive and all that. Haven't even tried looking for a job this week, but then I've been attacked by the Dodos of Depression or whatever the hell they are, so I've been pretty much incapable of doing anything much less anything productive. But next week's a new week and all that. Mom's gone to visit my brother for ten days so it's just dad and me, and surprisingly I get along better with him when mom's not around.

So obviously not being successful with the whole "not forgetting livejournal exists" thing but then again, not much to tell. Life continues to trudge along and the highlights are silly fangirling.

Currently I'm all a-squee over Andrew Scott, currently best-known as Sherlock's Jim Moriarty. In fact, [livejournal.com profile] jim_in_westwood's fics are the first I've read in ages. (I've been unable to get into the fanfic-reading groove for ages now.) If Andrew is the sort of things that's up your alley, here's some of my tags and posts on tumblr: Read more... )

Another thing getting much squee is a series of headcanon thingies I'm doing with [livejournal.com profile] seschat for the Holmes brother's relationship, youth, parents, and post-Reichenbach days.

Also Richard Siken's poems are my favourite of all things at the moment. I bought his collection Crush when I was in Chicago and it is beautiful.

bending_sickle: (Invisible?)
I keep writing posts in my head, in detail, about all the events and feelings and musings I want to share or simply need to set down. But then time passes and I get everything together and then there's nothing to say. I've been quite lax in posting as of late - and by that I mean something like the past few months, honestly - and for that, well, sorry. If anything for the out-of-date links. Whatev'. I hope everyone had a good New Year's Eve and Day, and wish y'all the best for 2012. Smile! If we live through the Mayan apocalypse, we get to look forward to the Croatoan virus.

One reason I've not been writing anything is that I've been spending all my time blissfully mellowed out with Tumblr. Another, more acceptable reason, is that there's nothing to say. Which is of course a lie because I could always pull something out about fandom, at the least. But lately I've not been doing much. Well, I've been finishing compilations (see below). But otherwise not really doing much of anything. Today I went out running after weeks of impersonating a hibernating grub and I started looking for plane tickets to go visit my brother, although that's causing all sorts of anxiety because I don't even know. (The looking-for-tickets thing, not visiting-my-brother, mind.) I did go socializing that one time, with my volunteer-work supervisor, which was lovely and wonderful, but it's quite sad to basically be able to point at a month or a string of months, "That's when I hung out with folk." So I've been Tumblring a lot and watching a lot of television and huddling under every warm thing I can find and generally not thinking about much of anything. Except maybe about how I'm still waiting for a Christmas card from [livejournal.com profile] mrscastielftw to arrive - it's somewhere in the between-homes postage ether - and it's getting to be a long, sad wait. It doesn't help that I've been falling asleep at 4 am these past few days.

Even now I'm drawing a blank, just that I really wanted to post because a) it's the new year and I might as well tell y'all I'm not dead and b) Links of the Day. So there you go. Oh, and memes. Now, excuse me, I have some American Horror Story to streamline into my veins.

I keep meaning to make a post and then I blink and end up somewhere in the deep bowels of Tumblr and it's the wee hours and I don't know what's going on anymore. Sorry about that. It's just so shiny.

So I'm still in "yay, it's the holidays!" mode, made especially easy because I'm a whole country away from my life, staying mellow in just south of Barcelona with my aunt and uncle. I've had the occasional thought of "I should email that person" and "I should send some CVs" but for the most part it's been bliss.

I've finally finished sprucing up Nanowrimo 2011 and have been thinking a lot about Nanowrimo 2012 (because of course I'm doing it). I think I've got a better grip on it than this year's, although that's mainly because I'm moving the great big plotty things to the background as flashforwards, so hopefully I'll be better able to manage them and not get bogged down with the bits in between. I'm almost done with the omnibus of my short stories too, which is awesome. I just need to work on the covers.

I haven't watched The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King yet, despite this past weekend having been slated for it. I did, though, watch Person of Interest 1x10 and omg. Finally, finally, I cared about the characters, and that incldues the lead ones. I even got a bit wibbley when Reese's day took a nose-dive into no-good, very-bad, and that was only partly because the screen was punching all my kink buttons. And Finch's mini-litle freak out of guilt was wonderful. And continuity! Yes, show, yes. I think I might start to like you now.

Qutes of the Day: [livejournal.com profile] greygirlbeast, here
Sometimes, I feel it's most important that people know and believe the truth – which is passion, but also no small degree of arrogance, to imagine I know such a thing. But other times, I feel it's best they believe whatever comforts them, regardless of my ideas of truth (and fact), so long as they do as little harm as possible. But that's pretty much the whole of the Law, isn't it? (Rhetorical question.)

Hello, dolls! I'm back, although Ye Great Retelling of my vacation will have to wait until I go through the hundreds of photos and all that fun stuff. Short version is I went to Vienna, Prague and Budapest and it was glorious \o/

As a result of all that, though, I'm now a bit swamped in all my projects and behind on all things fandom, although as you can tell from the LotD, I'm trying to catch up.

At work today I came across two articles which were upsetting for a number of reasons. Background information for the amnesiacs and newcomers: I spent four months tracking lions in Amboseli, namely five radio-and-GPS-collared ones, which means that for four months I saw them nearly every day and learned about their lives and prides and then analyzed the shit out of everything. In other news, I've watched all of the guest-starring-Mark-Sheppard episodes of BSG and am still a bit on the fence over whether I like the show or not. I can see that it's good, but it hasn't quite gripped me. Still, I've been reading Television Without Pity's recaps of the episodes I watched, and apart from being astonishingly well-written in the analytical and poetic sense of it all, they make me want to watch the show in full, if only to get a sense of these vast sweeping themes. So BSG is still on the List of TV Shows to Watch.

However, that's not what I want to share today. What I want to share is reason 2349 why Romo Lampkin is awesome.

He's handcuffed and has a big bad soldier with an even bigger, badder gun aimed at his *squints eyes* well, ass, really. And you know what? He kills that solder dead. With a pen. A stolen pen.

Did I mention he's a lawyer?
