- Ringer wins all the things, including my heart.
- Torchwood: Miracle Day was an excercise of meh-ness concluding in one final burst of "oh no you di'n't" (with a little bit of "Care Bear Stare saves the day, again" facepalming).
- Doctor Who's "The Girl Who Waited" broke my heart into a million little pieces.
- I'll be missing Supernatural's 7x01 next week, which means that a) I get to wait two more weeks until Ye Great Emotional Car Crash, b) I'll get to watch 7x01 and 7x02 back-to-back, and c) I'll be gone when the internet implodes. None of this is actually good.

Yesterday's meet-and-greet at Organization went well, even if my brain flatlined a few times and I found myself unable to string words together without stumbling over them. Apparently talking to someone I don't know makes me forget grammar and vocabulary in any language now. The person I spoke with gave me some suggestions - basically just to email people directly involved in projects I'd be interested in, saying, "hi! I'm here! if you ever need anyone! hi!" - and will circulate my CV around.

Today there was a nation-wide transportation strike, which meant I woke up an hour early to catch the last metro and waiting outside in the cold until I could get in the office. I started writing an SPN fic while I was at it, because apparently I can't finish fics. *sigh* Then, to get home, I decided to walk the hour back instead of wait around for four hours for the metro to start up again for a brief shining moment, or try and squeeze into any available bus and take three hours to get home like last time.

The rest of the day I spent working on a variety of fannish projects and watching Dharma and Greg. I was going to watch Paranormal Activity 2 tonight, but I figure it's a touch too late for that now.

In other news, my right eyelid's been twitching on and off for the whole day now, and it's really annoying. The Internet says I probably need more sleep, less caffeine, or less stress, to which I say, fat chance.

bending_sickle: (Fuck this shit)
Today was a crap day. Nothing was done, not a shit was given, and woe was had. My head still hurts from sorta-not crying on my have-to-get-out walk.

And my mom needs to learn that saying on Monday that there's "a Quebecois film she wants to watch" and on Wednesday that "it's on Satursday at nine" and on Saturday that "she's going to watch a movie" does not mean that she's making plans with me to watch a movie today at 9 pm. You actually have to say the words that mean, "let's go watch [movie] [date] at [time]." You can't have plans with people if you don't make them.

In other news, this is why I still haven't watched Paranormal Activity 2, as told by ambrina on Tumblr. I really want to watch it, and it's right there, watchable, but just the thought makes me burrow into my blankets. It's the poltergeist thing, especially with the bed sheets. That's the kind of thing that freaks me out. (See also: the possession scene in The Exorcism of Emily Rose.)

I have no idea - or have forgotten - what my friends are like when they're mad. And anyway, no one person is angry in one single way. It depends on the circumstances. There's frustrated-mad, hurt-mad, jealous-mad, confused-mad, I-love-you-but-mad, and so on. Read more... )

Sickle's Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera:
  • It is awesome. (Trailer) I remember the crazy mad hype on [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets months before the movie came out, and believe be, the hype is totally founded. (Unless cracky science fiction dramatic slasher opera isn't really your thing - like my brother - then you might not like it.) It's rocking fun, the story is good (and easy to follow in that characters are well-introduced and get back-stories) and the songs are brilliant

  • Speaking of, Zydrate Anatomy is still the best song there, although I Didn't Know I'd Love You So Much is rapidly becoming my also-favorite.

  • And speaking of Zydrate Anatomy, can I just say? Graverobber is made of unf.

  • Anthony Stewart Head was spectacular. His singing - and yes, he does have an album out - his acting, everything. Oh man, I've missed seeing him. (This is why I need to watch Merlin, I know.) I didn't even have to choose between hopeing for him being Giles-like or him being Ripper-like. (And, um, Sexy Evil Voice is Sexy.)

  • And again, speaking of Anthony Head, I didn't know his brother was Murray Head, of One Night in Bangkok. That is... Wow. That's a classic, that is.

Sickle Wields the Science Stick: On icanhascheezburger, someone posts a video: Fennec Fox Demands Love. Cue the "OMGWTF that's a wild animal, why is it captivity!" voices and the "it's totally domesticated, no worries mate, have some fallacies" maddness, and I back away slowly to shake my head (and Science Stick!) far from the drama. Yesterday I played the [livejournal.com profile] ljdq.

Today I thought about the Stonehenge Apocalypse/Doctor Who crack fic and had all sorts of ideas about time travel and cybermen and the Winchesters and whatnot. Probably won't have the time or energy to write it till the weekend.

I chatted (in Italian!) with co-workers. Call I still call them that even though I'm a volunteer? Tomorrow I'm going to translate giant walls of text (i.e. the biography of Person) so that will make my brain go smush. On the other hand, since it's a Roman holiday on Tuesday, we're getting Monday off too. Whoot.

I failed at updating my CV or looking for a job or emailing NGOs or checking out iPhone reviewer blogs. *sigh*

Yeah, I got nothin'. Have some links.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Quotes of the Day: Jim Valvano
To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.

Life and Times, the Sickle-Lost-Her-Brain Version:

- Still frustrated with Italian course and it's "Let's go slow! Let's spend an hour on these exercises! Let's spend yet another class on articles!" despite it being intensive. Along with two other students, complained about this to the teacher. Apparently, we're only going to learn the present tense this whole course and we're going slow because it's beginners. Fuck that shit. It's intensive, we've done fifteen hours and all we've learned is nouns, adjective declinations and definite and indefinite articles. Fuck that shit again.

- Got a reply to my job application (which I could have seen and replied to a few days ago but I am an ass). They'd like an interview (cue freakout) and propose Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, so this morning I replied with a "Wednesday, please!" but they haven't replied yet and I'm freaking out about that not-reply and coming up with worst-case scenarios of them never replying and my having to hound after them or show up at the office or something.

- Said job application is for a place with, according to their LinkedIn profile, four employees. I don't even.

- It's very cold in my room. I've taken to sleeping in caterpillar form, arms and legs all tucked to my sides and my feet have forgotten what it's like to be warm. Not cool, yo.

- I have so many creative ideas or projects and no time! I don't even have time to stay caught up with my shows, much less actually read the things I link to in LotD.

- I am freaking out over the job interview and appointment and there is freakingoutedness!

Supernatural Comments:

- I suggest not making asparagus pasta sauce the day after watching Pestilence get puked on. The green tone was exactly the same.

- I love Crowley to itty bitty bits, but I hate what he is in the story, which is to say a deus ex machina. Spoilers? Crowley! ) I mean, he's awesome whilst doing it all and getting everything and knowing everything as well, but it's too easy and too much like a magician's hat.

* Utopia, Doctor Who
bending_sickle: (Diversion)
In celebration of the death of summer, my room has been taken over by laundry (pending- and damp) as well as a suitcase in the midst of one of its great yearly transitions (the summer-winter exchange, less feared than the storage-travel one).

The weekend with Willy was brilliant. We talked mainly about our projects and respective boys. Coo-ee did we talk a lot about the boys and she's agreed that I'm being neither crazy, demanding nor am I exaggerating. So, um, yay? Anyway, it was good to hash it out with someone who knows exactly who and what I'm talking about. (Once this is all settled in Real Life I'm run y'all through it - mainly because I need to hash it out myself.) Then on Saturday night we went to a shared bday party of some of her friends (and omg, sitting on the back of a bike for a long time hurts one's bum a lot). Sunday we took it easy in the morning, then she went to work and I wandered around Amsterdam.

I've been trying to plan out my birthday this coming Saturday. Mom suggests I hang out with the people I'm trying to make friends out of, and I needn't say it's my birthday. I see the logic in that sociality is good and that if you hang out with acquaintances on your bday (and them knowing it is), they may stare at you as if you were a shaven monkey lathering on sunscreen whilst sitting on a parka**, thinking "You seriously don't have anyone better - closer - to hang out with on your bday?"

On the other hand, if I'm to spend my bday with people, I'd rather it be people who care I'm alive. If that's not an option (and when was the last time that was), then I'd rather spend it alone. Alone, yes, but doing things I like. As in, I will give myself an awesome day.

So the plan so far is a late wake-up, a full English breakfast at a local pub***, a stock-up on all sorts of candy and then a stint in the Hague, where dim sum and a movie will be enjoyed. (I'm still a bit hazy on this last bit.) I don't think I'll manage Dutch pancakes or a cake of some sort, but there's always Sunday. Somewhere during all that I hope to receive a call or two from family, but that's about it. This will be awesome and wonderful and not at all sad and the first person to suggest so will be tied to a chair and forced to watch the abysmal film Happy Birthday To Me with the McGill Architectural Porn deleted! Oh yeah, I will stoop so low.

Today was spent mainly in bed. Granted, I did clean the larger house (and suspect it may have been my urn to clean this house, but oh well, tomorrow). But most of the time? Bed. I don't know why, but I've felt like a limp wet noodle all day, really tired-like.

I did watch Star Trek and thought it was quite a bit meh (except for Simon Pegg, who as awesome and Zachary Quinto when he was ass-kicking, 'cause oooh baby). Also watched last week's True Blood (whoot!) It felt like a filler-episode, but loved it nonetheless.

And I think I've picked a knitting project. Well, there's dozens that I want to do, but I've found a good starter (yes, it's a scarf, but it's a really cool one! Gloves incorportated!) So now I need to get the yarn and needle and skillz. Two out of three will not only be bad, but catastrophic.
