I was doing rather poorly yesterday with what might have been a stomach bug. The kind that scuttles around wreaking havoc whilst white blood cells stand on chairs and scream, tossing rolled-up newspapers onto the floor in a hopeless attempt at stopping the infestation.

Today we took to the car and supposedly went to a Medieval town with a lovely view of the lake, but all we got to see was rain coming at us in all directions, so we had a coffee (with flavoured sugar!) and went back home.

I appear to have developed a crush on Misfits's Simon, which means a certain unfilicious episode will probably be rewatched. I also watched the Rifftrax version of X-Men yesterday, and somehow that made the movie ten times more boring. I liked that film, damnit. And all the while yesterday I was watching it thinking, "This is so ridiculous and nothing's happening." I don't even.

And now, Attack of the Links. Muahahaha!

Oh, and Supernatural's "The French Mistake" was brilliant and hilarious and had second-hand embarrassment and why didn't I like Misha in it?!? That's as coherent as I can be for now.

Also, why didn't anyone tell me that Misfits was all up in the science fiction and fantasy and people with ~*powers*~ zone? That's my cup of tea!

As a society we still have a lot of improvements to make, but the fact that there are people who feel safe enough mentioning their same sex relationships in conversation with a complete stranger means that there's no doubt about it, there have been improvements since I was a kid. And that's a good, comforting sign, even if those improvements are taking more time than they should <3.

Sickle's Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera:
  • It is awesome. (Trailer) I remember the crazy mad hype on [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets months before the movie came out, and believe be, the hype is totally founded. (Unless cracky science fiction dramatic slasher opera isn't really your thing - like my brother - then you might not like it.) It's rocking fun, the story is good (and easy to follow in that characters are well-introduced and get back-stories) and the songs are brilliant

  • Speaking of, Zydrate Anatomy is still the best song there, although I Didn't Know I'd Love You So Much is rapidly becoming my also-favorite.

  • And speaking of Zydrate Anatomy, can I just say? Graverobber is made of unf.

  • Anthony Stewart Head was spectacular. His singing - and yes, he does have an album out - his acting, everything. Oh man, I've missed seeing him. (This is why I need to watch Merlin, I know.) I didn't even have to choose between hopeing for him being Giles-like or him being Ripper-like. (And, um, Sexy Evil Voice is Sexy.)

  • And again, speaking of Anthony Head, I didn't know his brother was Murray Head, of One Night in Bangkok. That is... Wow. That's a classic, that is.

Sickle Wields the Science Stick: On icanhascheezburger, someone posts a video: Fennec Fox Demands Love. Cue the "OMGWTF that's a wild animal, why is it captivity!" voices and the "it's totally domesticated, no worries mate, have some fallacies" maddness, and I back away slowly to shake my head (and Science Stick!) far from the drama. My references are all going to be Wiki because I have neither the time nor patience to pull up relevant journals and I am not doing a literature review to shake the Science Stick over the concepts of domestication, tameness, and similar. Sickle Has A Request: So I finally read through The Last Wild Angel - that story that in a fit of insanity I've decided to try and send to a magazine - enough to edit it a little and put it in manuscript format. However, I have some editorial questions of the "What should I dooooo?" and "Is this okay? Tell me it's okay!" variety. So does anyone care to beta? Please?

Sickle Writes (And Has Another Sort-Of Request): Day before yesterday - because I've been lax in posting - I finally finished typing out the notes I'd made for Time for Something Biblical, listing all the characters', set and plot details. It's on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories, but flocked, which y'all know I never do on [livejournal.com profile] bending_sickle, because I'm apparently more paranoid about my half-formed creative ideas being open to the world than I am about my life.

I went to sleep quite late because I just can't come up with a title for the sequel. I know it's ridiculous, because I haven't even started writing it and I barely know what's going to happen, but I'm obsessed with finding the right title. Time for Something Biblical was such a perfect title, what with the apocalypse and the angel and all. Now I'm scouring the internet and quotes and books for anything that'll work, preferrably starting of with "Time For", and, if I want to be really picky, a Muse lyric - not because I like Muse, because I don't overmuch, but because I did the same with TFSB and its chapter titles and argh.

Random thought: I do really weird fanmixes. I've never done a proper, actually-related-to-fandom fanmix. The best I could do on that front is making a fanmix of all the songs I want to make into fanvids, but that's a bit odd, even for me. My mixes are all about long-distance relationships and obsessive compulsive disorder and chronic homesickness and gods know I might end up doing a mix on fish one of these days. I've already got two three songs in mind, and I didn't even have to think hard: Dawn of BtVS's "Anchovies" song, Monty Python's "Slapping Fish" song, and "It's a Long Way from Amphioxus". Crazy little Sickle.

Meme via [livejournal.com profile] lienne: It's that five questions thing again. Shout the name of a fruit at me—seriously: "Leave a comment saying "ORANGES" (or any other fruit of your choice)"—I'll ask you five questions, you post your answers, other people shout fruits at you, the cycle continues.

1. the hell is a kumquat anyway - A kumquat is a hilarious word which is exceedingly fun to say. Oh, and a fruit, as per the meme's specs. I think I've had some before. Really, I just confused it with the satsuma, which isn't really as exotic as the name seems to imply, being somewhat of glorified mandarin (or, more amusingly, a "citrus mutant" according to Wiki) because I wanted to be all witty and amusing and sly by referencing the fruit the Tenth Doctor had in his pocket in his first episode, which was the first time I'd heard of that fruit and was sorely disappointed to see it wasn't anything special.

2. what do you think of this journal It's a very nice!

3. has anyone ever sent you a dirty postcard Unfortunately, no. Or maybe fortunately, because I don't want my parents to get the mail and end up with 0.0 eyes.

4. I don't mean like it had naughty words written on it or was smudged with grime, I mean like the picture on the postcard was pornographic. yes I just looked over at my stack of old mail to come up with that question Nope, not in any of those senses. I guess the closest I ever came was when [livejournal.com profile] chaosvizier didn't send me the Kenyan postcard of massive zebra schlong. (Scroll down.) Oh, what could have been.

5. I'm going to give up now Which means that I can both complete the meme and give up in a wonderfully paradoxical state of affairs! :D

Okay, so I'm being incredibly shitting at posting lately. That's simply because the day is too bloody short and I can no longer just hook up the internet via IV direct into my bloodstream like I used to. I've done Things, like:

Wednesday and Thursday I have no idea what happened. Probably not zombies.

Friday I walked for hours and hours in the heat with blisters all over Rome trying to find the spot marked down on my map where I could find a second-hand sale of English books, only to discover, upon arrival, a note stuck on the door saying that if there were a transport strike - which apparently there was, but it was very discrete - the sale would be canceled. Cue Sickle sitting down on the steps and crying in frustration.

Saturday I went to Ostia Antica (which was awesome) by myself (which was even better) and took lots and lots of photographs (which I will share....eventually).

Sunday I went to Castel Gandolfo with my parents (which was right next to where we'd gone the other time, Genzano di Roma) and it went well except for the whole "with my parents" bit which did nothing but result in heartache and anger and utter, utter crap.

After that I went downtown to have dinner with Friend C from Italian class and we talked about cultures, countries, immigration, friendships and the like for four fucking hours and my brain could not take that much socializing and talking but it was nice nonetheless.

Today I went with mom to the neighbourhood where we used to live, back when it was still the 1980's and I recognized our parking lot and it was okay except for the whole "with mom" bit.

I spent most of yesterday writing a blog entry in my head for Blog Like it's the End of the World Day and let me tell you, your day becomes much more interesting once you put on the mindframe of, "What if the zombiepocalypse happens right now?" Unfortunately, I didn't have the energy to write the entry and then today I saw that no one had BLITEOFW anyway. Still, I was hit over the head by a sentence and therefore wrote a zombie drabble. It's here at [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories.

I also copy/pasted a cracked-out drabble I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] seschat onto [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories. It's called Eliminate the Impossible and crosses Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man and House, M.D.. Yeah...

So Intensive Beginners Italian classes are, indeed, intensive. We did nouns and plurals and adjectives and vocabulary and started on some verbs. I didn't get lost on the way despite much map-staring the night previous and general thoughts of fail from mom. (Why yes, I am an incompetent moron who can't do anything at all. For the win, I say.) I made it back okay too. With homework. It's been a year and five months since I've had an actual class in anything. Wow.

In other news, I sent in two applications for jobs - lab tech and sustainability associate - so yay. I have a cover letter to write for lab tech work in Rome, which may go well. This is all just very discouraging because I have no aspirations - or rather, the few I had have been accomplished. "Really, Sickle? Seriously? You've done everything you ever wanted in this life?" y'all may say, incredulously, to which I shrug and say, "I aint' coming up with any other things I want. And that's the problem!" But. Honestly, if I'd known better - or had had a half decent career counselor or hell, a list of careers and what you need to study to get them - I'd have not done what I have. I'd've studied foresty if I wanted to stay in science - it has an applicable industry! - or done hotel management, or translation, or hell, even animal management. Something with obvious skills and options, not, "Coo-ee, I like studying about animals doing things!" Idiot. Ugh.

In further other news, I have too many creative projects and no time or oomf for them. On the other hand, I've started working out - doing those back exercises so I'm not a disfigured old crone, just a crazy spinster with a penchant for cats.

In completely unrelated news, Doctor Who's latest was pretty good, but I was hoping - for bizarre imaginative reasons - that Amy would actually turn to stone for a bit, like flicker between stone and person. Anywho. Also, I was hoping for some joy in the way of Castle but Unexplained Hiatus is Unexplained. And I should so totally make a Nightmare On Elm Street (2010) tag: it's been on the Links of the Day too oft for it not to have one. Yeah, that's right, I said oft.

In sum: feh. And I seem to be having these mad waves of incredible flippin' rage and frustration and anger and submerged wibbles. Adjusting, I am not. Duh.

Lately I've been trying to come up with a way to legitimately put as many crossovers into a single story line as possible. Why? It's cracktastic fun, that's why. It's also surprisingly easy, because every fandom has at least one convenient opening. Especially the supernatural ones.

For example, the easiest points in each fandom that can be used to make a crossover include:
