Also I totally forgot I made thingies, so here, have a marginally more interesting post.

Still not dead! *waves* Although I'm apparently being terrible at the whole "posting on LJ" thing lately. Not that a lot is happening. I've been reading a lot of A Song of Ice and Fire (currently on book 4) and fangirling a lot on Thor, The Avengers and all things Loki. (Yes, still.)

I've also bought books because I do what I want and all that. So my life now has a) Ragnarok by A.S. Byatt (which is awesome), b) American Gods by Neil Gaiman (which I read years ago but how could I not own this puppy?!, c) Animal Husbandry by Laura Zigman (which I read back in first year of university, having found it in my residence's Ye Abandoned Books library, and I could've adopted the book but didn't because I don't know, so finding it again in a second-hand bookstore was like finding an old friend), and d) The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (also second-hand, and one I've been meaning to read for ages).

This coming Saturday my folks and I are starting our road trip to Serbia for Ye Sibling's Wedding. I'll be back around July 9th (not that you'll be able to tell I'm gone, as used as y'all probably are to my not posting anything ever). So my floor's littered with clothes and I have half-a-dozen lists in my head. One such list included "get a bigger memory card for the camera" but that's failed because the card I got is 4 GB and apparently my camera is too old to handle that much space and can only deal with up to 2 GB, and they don't sell itty-bitty memory cards anymore so feh.

As for the whole "get a job" thing or the "get a life" thing or even the "get away from here" thing... Yeah. Kinda been putting that all on the back-burner in favour of a "I am going to enter a state of mental hibernation" in which I do nothing. \o/ Anyway. Once I'm back and officially a sister-in-law and everything, I'll be kicking my ass into gear (again).

Look I made fanart!

Also, remember when I accidentally crossovered Thor and Game of Thrones? Seems like my brain decided to hit me with that stick again. So I put The Avenger’s characters into Houses and other such things.

Quotes of the Day: Delirium By Lauren Oliver
You may think the past has something to tell you. You may think that you should listen, should strain to make out its whispers, should bend over backward, stoop down low to hear its voice breathed up from the ground, from the dead places. You may think there's something in it for you, something to understand or make sense of. But I know the truth: I know from the nights of Coldness. I know the pa...st will drag you backward and down, have you snatching at whispers of wind and the gibberish of trees rubbing together, trying to decipher some code, trying to piece together what was broken. It's hopeless. The past is nothing but a weight. It will build inside of you like a stone. Take it from me: If you hear the past speaking to you, feel it tugging at your back and running its fingers up your spine, the best thing to do---the only thing---is run.

So, fandoms are colliding. Case in point:
  • Bones having Angel's Angel and Hamilton together in a scene.

  • Medium having Firefly's Badger and Niska together in a scene.

I just...thought I'd point that out? Because I kinda want to do art about it but not now?

Speaking of Medium, I watched the third episode with Mark Sheppard (although really, the first one is a lie, because it has Mark saying two lines and then it's nothing but sitting there staring at the screen, consumed by lust, waiting for his character to show up again and he never does, at least not Mark-shaped). It made me rant at the screen.

So I'm going to rant at the screen again, in typed form. Because GRR ARGH. In which a woman is in labour and I do not agree with solution - and sentiments. )

Sweet monkies onna vine! My Special Hell Fanart is making the rounds on Tumblr \o/ People like! *dances*

Also, I wrote fics. Plural. X-Men: First Class's J'aboude and Supernatural's Promises and Pie Crusts. Crossposting will happen - eventually - at least for the Sueprnatural one. I'm just as shocked as y'all are that I actually finished something. Now, there's that fic I've got dying on my harddrive since last October...

Now, excuse me, I have to look through every Mark Sheppard tumblr thing ever. NOW. Ngh.

That long post I keep meaning to write, with the photographs, the drabble for that meme, and those fanart things, and all that other stuff? Yeah, not this one. Not enough time in the day, and I needs mah sleep. Stupid impending Monday...

I will say, though, that after [livejournal.com profile] seschat and my's nitpicking of the latest X Men for its feminism fail, I've been looking into a few things, as you'll see from the links. Also? The following wording is making me go GRR ARGH. Improve my ass. What does gender have to do with the Sorting Hat?!

If you'd asked be fifteen minutes ago what today had been like, I would've said, "Pretty good, considering," but now it gets the "Utter, utter shit" verdict. What could have happened in fiftenn minutes to ruin the day, you wonder? Let us whine. )

But if you don't care about any of that, and in the fine tradition of staring new projects and leaving old ones to languish in despair, here's some Supernatural-meets-Buffy and True Blood-meets-Doctor Who fanart. Yays. SPOILERS for True Blood 4x01 )

  • I've done a re-re-re-edit of TWSaM because my supervisor has been kind enough to give me the go-ahead on printing it out at the office and binding it all nice and spirally. \o/ Sure, when my parents get back they'll have my CreateSpace proof copy, but this one's got pictures.

  • I've been doing a lot of listening to audiobooks lately - the house is very quiet. This weekend I got How to be a Pirate by CCressida and Whiteout by KFollet done, and soon I'll be able to start on the latest Sookie Stackhouse novel. Booooooks \o/

  • I'm being quite crap at emailing people I ought to email.

  • We can has gas bill. I need to figure out where that can be paid, and all that jazz. I know it involves a lot of standing in line and such, but the details are fuzzy.

  • By gods, if I don't finish Walking Far From Home (fanvid) this week, cries of argh! will ensue.

  • Although, creatively, this weekend was a win because while I still have two stories crying abandoned in a corner, I got the outlines down for one image I've been wanting to draw. Sure, the angle isn't what I wanted, but it's the best I can do without the appropriate references. Of course, I can't draw people to save my life, and my adding colour to things tends to ruin them, so I don't know how I'm going to get the vibrant colour motif I've got in my head down on paper... But at least we're exorcising the damn thing out.

Sickle's Review of Repo! The Genetic Opera:
  • It is awesome. (Trailer) I remember the crazy mad hype on [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets months before the movie came out, and believe be, the hype is totally founded. (Unless cracky science fiction dramatic slasher opera isn't really your thing - like my brother - then you might not like it.) It's rocking fun, the story is good (and easy to follow in that characters are well-introduced and get back-stories) and the songs are brilliant

  • Speaking of, Zydrate Anatomy is still the best song there, although I Didn't Know I'd Love You So Much is rapidly becoming my also-favorite.

  • And speaking of Zydrate Anatomy, can I just say? Graverobber is made of unf.

  • Anthony Stewart Head was spectacular. His singing - and yes, he does have an album out - his acting, everything. Oh man, I've missed seeing him. (This is why I need to watch Merlin, I know.) I didn't even have to choose between hopeing for him being Giles-like or him being Ripper-like. (And, um, Sexy Evil Voice is Sexy.)

  • And again, speaking of Anthony Head, I didn't know his brother was Murray Head, of One Night in Bangkok. That is... Wow. That's a classic, that is.

Sickle Wields the Science Stick: On icanhascheezburger, someone posts a video: Fennec Fox Demands Love. Cue the "OMGWTF that's a wild animal, why is it captivity!" voices and the "it's totally domesticated, no worries mate, have some fallacies" maddness, and I back away slowly to shake my head (and Science Stick!) far from the drama. My references are all going to be Wiki because I have neither the time nor patience to pull up relevant journals and I am not doing a literature review to shake the Science Stick over the concepts of domestication, tameness, and similar. Deal with it. This shit got long enough as it is.Read more... )

Day 19: I went for a walk, had ice-cream (coffee flavour of the gods and ricotta & blue berries of those other gods), and checked out the new Little Big Town toy store. Grabby hands were made at many things, because I am twelve. Or six, depending on the toy. (I *insert sarcasm* love how their gallery is really just headshot of Important People in the shop, as opposed to, oh, I don't know, their products?)
Day 20: ...I'm going to watch Castle The Secret Diary of a Call Girl tonight even if my alarm clock kills me tomorrow. Yays. Granted, it's officially Day 21 now (Approprite Icon is Appropriate), so Day 20 had... Rasberries with cream. Yes. That was the highlight.

There's not much going on right now. I went to get my fiscal code on Friday, but they'd run out of numbers and had some computer trouble besides, so I left empty handed. I'm going to try again on Tuesday, because they're open in the afternoon on that day and you have to be there before they open if you want even the slimmest hope of being seen to.

Mom's in Spain as of Wednesday, so it's just Dad and me. I seem to get on better with my dad when my mom's not here, but even so, argh. Tomorrow we're going to a ballet - Swan Lake, methinks - and I've got to do all the things I meant to do today tomorrow because I'll be damned if I do them today. Which means German homework and CV rewrites and all that fun stuff, including the Fanfic which I stopped writing October 31st on account of Nano and haven't found the oompf to finish or even work on it yet.

9.00: Store opens.
9.32.59: Lynette's period starts.

(An aside to the gentlemen. Imagine that there is an invisible midget following you around. This midget's duty is grap hold of your testicles and give them a good solid crushing wrench. Whenever this happens, it triggers a debilitating and instantaneous bout of bowel-busting diarrhoea that leaves you hunched over a toilet for ten minutes, clammy and groaning. Now imagine that every woman you told about this condition merely advised you to "work through it.")
