Sickle's Brief Review of Supernatural 6x07, "Family Matters"

• That was a lot of "Before" they felt we had to go through and it's barely the 7th episode. Your arc should not be that convoluted! Summarize more! Summarize better!


• Fuzzy-faced headed Cas!


• Sam was cool as a cucumber on ice and that was brilliant. However, when he untied himself and said that there was no way, no place, Dean could lock him up? You're not gonna hold me, Dean. Not here. Not in a panic room. Not anywhere. *shudders* Sam scares me, he really does. (Also, sorta cage references for the win!)


• I loved Castiel's diagnosis, particularly he repetition of, "Is he speaking in tongues? Are you speaking in tongues?"


• If Sam hasn't slept since he came back, what does he do when Dean's asleep? Watch him? *represses Edward Cullen vibes*


• I've now seen Misha take off his belt twice. (Well, three times if I could remember anything from Karla apart from "Oh gods, the horror!". And four if you count him showing off his underware at that one Convention.) Why we couldn't actually see Castiel fiddle with the buckle (because you know he'd fumble), I have no idea and am miffed.


• We're always seeing Sam's neck veins go all sort of colours, aren't we?


• Is it just me reading too much into the acting, or is it significant that Sam gasped about as if in pain when Castiel healed him, and for Dean in Swan Song there was no such thing?


• Dean, you silly puppy, remember how Lucifer's cage was really fucking hard to open? It required a whole mess of seals and deaths and sacrifices and the apocalypse? It's not so easy to walk in and take Sam's soul back, you know. (Although I'm delighted you think Castiel can do it, no problem.) Also, hello, Lucifer's in there!


• Also, Dean? Stop taking Castiel for granted and give him some bloody respect.


• I really, really want to believe Castiel that there's nothing wrong with Grandpa Winchester's soul. Although, if Crowley got him out (of Hell? Heaven?), why doesn't he own that soul? Shoddy, that.


• Was Grandpa Winchester loking at a photo or a list when the boys showed up?


• Dear Grandpa Winchester: Thou shalt not disrespect Castiel. He's learnt the arts of the verbal smack down from the best. (Also, he's the size of the Chrysler Building.)


• Dear Christian: I've never wanted to see Dean beat the snot out of someone so bad. Consider yourself lucky. (Also? Dissing Lisa, calling her a slut? Uncalled for and evil and please go die now.)


• Dean looked incredibly hot when he resolutely wasn't beating the snot out of Christian. Unf.


• I like Gwen. All other living Campbells can skedaddle.


• Who was screaming for Dean and then went all bloodsplatter and why do I feel this is significant?


• Sam should've learned not to be Liar McLiarson to Dean ever again.


• Dean's realization and speech of how Sam doesn't know the difference between what's important and what isn't, that he has no judgement whatsoever, made my heart go crumple and cry in a corner.


• Everyone was behind bars this episode! Bars everywhere! Oh, the symbolism is running rampant tonight!


• Alpha Vampire? You win. Everything. Stay and be awesome all over the screen, please. (Also, meet Crowly and Castiel and I'll even let Zachariah not be dead just to see him meet you too.)


• We all have our mothers? Well, isn't that a massive about-turn from the father-focus we've been on all this while.


• Monster-specific purgatory? I approve.


• Every single monster wants to see what kind of uber-bad Sam will turn out to be, and you know what? Me too. I have this morbid curiosity to see Sam - the real Sam in all his glory, not just his meatsuit - be evil to the bone. Remember how he was supposed to be the Boy King and the Antichrist and be so evil Dean'd have to kill him? I wanna see!


• Crowley! ♥


• Crowley may think he's found a leash to hold Dean with - Sam's soul - but that's not going to last long at all.


• Damnit, Dean! Sam was going to shoot Granpa Winchester and I was approving! (Although I guess I'm glad he didn't, for Sam's sake.)

Nanowrimo progresses, although I'm displeased with some of the style being too - I don't know. I've even quoted poetry by this stage, so I'm facepalming all over it. Anyway, we're a step away from Demon Death then Infected Ahoy then Kezef. I am very excited for Kezef.

She tilted her head to one side, looking at Icarus behind Chip’s shoulder. “What? Greymalkin got your tongue?”

Icarus moved forwards a step and pressed himself against Chip’s back, so close that the heat from his skin sank in between Chip’s shoulders. He felt the angel press his chin on his shoulder – he could just make out Icarus’ profile out of the corner of his eye – and give a pained sigh.

The woman’s smile widened. “Oh, you really are a flightless bird!” She laughed. “A skylark wounded in the wing, a redbreast in a cage – do you think Heaven and its cherubim think of you at all? Much less rage and cease their song for you?”

Nano right now is being like a puzzle where I've got all the pieces but keep putting them in the wrong order, so I end up with Character A being introduced in the manner I'd rather introduce Character B and it' also like a marathon because the main character has to do C and D and then E and oh yeah, F has to happen and then the day ends up having 48 hours. Argh.

I've already wanted to shake (and/or throttle) two of my characters so far, screaming, "Just spit it out already! Stop stalling! Do something! No! Something else" or variations thereof. It's like they don't know I am the author and as such can, oh, I don't know, write them off in a fiery death? Stupid uncooperative characters :(

And oh wow, Emma snuck into your fic? ...did you try taking away her cello?
