...of changes in our physical environment: the facts have changed or, to be more precise, the facts as we perceive them have changed. [...] However, the difference between "human caused" and "non-human caused" is not always clear and not crucial when trying to deal with preventing problems in the first place.

Take that Global Warming is Just a Phase bastards and suck on it. It doesn't really matter who's fault it is, just as long as we don't drown.

PS: Book list meme on previous post, if you find that more entertaining. Sucks to be in different time zones, yo.

ETA 2: I'd meant to post this in the morning, when I first read it, but duuuude, xkcd rules everything, always. Don't get the reference? Watch the Discovery Channel Commercial of Win: The World Is Just Awesome. I loves it, boomdeyada :)

In today's emotional topography, I was skirting the great Marsh of Suck** and could see, far in the distance, the Pit of Blah. Luckily, whilst striding through the Woods of Worry, I failed to attract the attention of a flock of Dodos of Doom - though there were near enough to be heard, cooing softly, "Dooooom. Doo-wooom. Doomanu, doomanu. Doooom."***

So what did I do? I was rebellious and irresponsible and acted in direct opposition to my Mother's desires. Meaning, I bought shit. Lookit. )

** Alliteration fails me. Quicksand of Suck? Sea of Suck? But it wouldn't suck then, just...drown.
*** The Dodos of Doom are really just the dodos in Ice Age, flocking around the hero's chanting, "Doom on you!" They seemed like an apt emotional!metaphor.

Sometimes I get these weird one-liners or short dialogues spouting off in my head. And, because I've been trying to work for the past, ooh, 9 hours and done fuck all, I'm going to share. (I usually put these on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories, but I'd have to log out, log in... You can see why I'm not doing that.)

What this really means is that I'm booooooooooored. I'm also incredibly fucked for my presentation, because a) no presentation done yet and b) might be good to practice the talk beforehand, which can't be done without the fucking presentation. Spending all day trying to work means that no work gets done and no procrastination gets done either. It sucks!

Also, hit me up for this meme via [livejournal.com profile] rex_dart:

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any of the fandoms you know I like AND give me a type of AU (Western, pirates, historical era of your choice, space opera, etc) for each fandom. I will then explain what story from that fandom I would write for that AU.

You can skip the AU thingy if'n you like.

Fandoms I know stuff about, even if only a little: Read more... )

ETA: Please, people, talk to me here. I'm loooosing it!

"Well, don't I have the luck of a drowning weasel..."

"Will you just sit down? Christ, I'm nervous enough just watching you pacing about with that thing in the air."

"As if you've never wanted to douse something in petrol before."

"Listen, I'm going to go outside and be sick all over the pavement. If you really want to come along, I can't stop you, but I'd rather you didn't."

"You're tap-dancing on a mine-field, mate. I'd shut up if I were you."

"You know how they say, 'cold as a witch's teat'? What d'you say when it's dry weather?" Cut for vulagarity. )

"You so much as squeak a word of this to anyone, and I'll stuff eels down your trousers. Electric eels. Hungry, too."

I have a slide and a half done. *flops about in exhaustion*

I'm also a number. \o/ City Hall charged me some E11 for it, but hey. Also, I finally picked up the Welcome Package from the Expat Desk at City Hall (gah! Capital Letter Overkill!) - a month before I leave, yes - and am quite overjoyed at some of the stuff. I even got a pair of itty bitty porcelain clogs! Aw, Netherlands, you nice country you, bribing me for affection. (It's not gonna work, but you're welcome to keep on trying.)

In other news, I'm reading [livejournal.com profile] carlisle_coop's Hotness Quotients, after watching Doomsday with a Snickers bar for company - damn fine company too - and just had to quote this bit. Why? Because it's true, that's why.

'Sneak attack of Sexy', the definitive definition. )

Dad's emailed. He managed to get Locksmith** 1x04 down. I believe he considered it "psychologically disturbing", which...yeah. Oh gods, what must he think of me?!?

I don't know about you...but I'm in the mood for a bloody good pop quiz!*

So, hours and hours later, I'm still sitting at the desk and have finally finished the articles. (I've also watched a boatload of Nevermind the Buzzcocks on YouTube - my face hurts from laughing so much.) Of course, were I in any way functional, I would've finished these yesterday or possibly even the day before. But. Now I have to work on a 45-minute presentation on economics and ecology and stuff, explaining what sustainable development is.

Why?, when I could just sum it all up with this:

SD is an attempt to have one's cake and eat it too.**

Feh.
