*feeble wave* So, not dead yet. Sick with a cold and sunburnt all to hell, making clothes an instrument of torture, but alive. The Cliffnotes of my life are:

  1. the phone interview went terribly and I sucked and it was aweful

  2. consequently I've been unable to do any more jobhunting, meaning I fail at everything

  3. everything is The Avengers and Loki and everything hurts, but it's a better thing than points one and two so yays

  4. speaking of which, I wrote fanfic drabble thingies for The Avengers because I had questions and feelings

  5. I also finally finished a Supernatural fanvid I started sometime in 2009 \o/

  6. I'm also working on putting [livejournal.com profile] seschat and my Sherlock headcanon to [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories. Part 1 of 18 is up.

  7. so it kinda looks like I'm being productive.

So have some thingies:

Fanfic and Meta: Seschat and Sickle's Holmes Bros Headcanon, Part 1 of 18

Fanfic: In the Mountains There is the Promise
Fandom: The Avengers
Word Count: 1,223
Summary: What happened between Loki's defeat and his and Thor's departure? (i.e. I had a lot of questions)

Fanvid Title: More Than This
Music: "Push" by Moist
Fandom: Supernatural
Summary: You have become your father's gun. A study (of sorts) of John Winchester's effect on the boys and the hunter's life. "Is this what you want / what you need / what you wanted me to be?"

Quote of the Day: [livejournal.com profile] greygirlbeast, here
If I have to be someone other than who and what they would have me believe their god made of me (or made me weak enough I might become), if it's all that sick and twisted and sadistic, why would I want to dwell in the house of that lord? Maybe the truest mark of human intellectual evolution is giving our "gods" the middle finger.

*waves* Still alive and all that. Haven't even tried looking for a job this week, but then I've been attacked by the Dodos of Depression or whatever the hell they are, so I've been pretty much incapable of doing anything much less anything productive. But next week's a new week and all that. Mom's gone to visit my brother for ten days so it's just dad and me, and surprisingly I get along better with him when mom's not around.

The status quo continues to drag, but at least I've finally made a to-do list and actually managed to cross off a few items! Sure, they're items I shouldn't be wasting time on anyway, but hey, at least something got done.

I finally - after some two months - emailed Kevin and Ursula Eat Cheap. The thing is that in Naples I visited the Naples Archaeological Museum, which has a Secret Cabinet, and all I could think of was [livejournal.com profile] ursulav's Phalloi art (Adult and NSFW, even if adorable). So I just had to send in some photographs.

Another thing I did was a fanmix:

So obviously not being successful with the whole "not forgetting livejournal exists" thing but then again, not much to tell. Life continues to trudge along and the highlights are silly fangirling.

Currently I'm all a-squee over Andrew Scott, currently best-known as Sherlock's Jim Moriarty. In fact, [livejournal.com profile] jim_in_westwood's fics are the first I've read in ages. (I've been unable to get into the fanfic-reading groove for ages now.) If Andrew is the sort of things that's up your alley, here's some of my tags and posts on tumblr: Read more... )

Another thing getting much squee is a series of headcanon thingies I'm doing with [livejournal.com profile] seschat for the Holmes brother's relationship, youth, parents, and post-Reichenbach days.

Also Richard Siken's poems are my favourite of all things at the moment. I bought his collection Crush when I was in Chicago and it is beautiful.

Today's been a total waste of day (Grey's Anatomy marathon FTW), but yesterday I a) sold my bike for 35 measley euros (boo!) b) went to Amsterdam and wandered c) watched Case 39 (eep!) and d) had tea with Nahry (whoot!)

In other news, my mother may or may not be flying in tomorrow. Stupid volcano.

Supernatural's "The Rapture" Meta: Just been rewatching Jimmy Novak clips and holy angelcakes, Batman, does Jimmy's speech here scream Show Meta. I mean, if I didn't know any better I'd say the dialogue was Sam's or Dean's.
JIMMY: I'm done, okay, with demons, angels all of it. I just wanna go home. [...] I've been shot and stabbed and healed and my body's been dragged all over the earth. By some miracle I'm out and I am done. I've given enough, okay?

And of course, Jimmy can never go home. Just like Sam can never go home - or well, back to Stanford life. Just like neither can Dean, who's never had one. And just like the first ever Monster of the Week in Pilot. Oh, Show ♥

Leadership has to do with direction. Management has to do with the speed, coordination and logistics in going in that direction. The WORKERS are chopping their way through the jungle. The MANAGERS are coordinating, making sure the tools are sharp, etc. The LEADERS climb a tree and shout, "Wrong jungle!" The MANAGERS shout back, "Be quiet! We're making progress!"

I went to two bike shops today and thus got an estimate of what my bike's worth. I've got one guy interested in buying it, so we'll see how my haggling skills go on Saturday. I also think I've got someone interested in my wardrobe, which is awesome. I went to the Hague for a wander about and to see what I could get for some second-hand books, but they only offered fifty cents more than in Leiden, so I'll just get rid of them all here. In less awesome news, the girl who was going to take my room has decided against it at the last minute, so it's back to the drawing board with that.

Blowing up a twin-sized air mattress without a pump leads to tired lungs and jaw ache and leaves me desperate to make the joke of, "Longest. Blow job. Ever," because I'm just fancy that way.

Parents coming in tomorrow night, so the weekend will be spent in a flurry of activity, packing and panicking. Whoot.

ETA: Been watching Supernatural videos and just realized something blatantly obvious in the symbolism department. In the Green Room in Lucifer Rising, Dean tips a small statue of an angel off a shelf. (Exhibit A and Exhibit B) In other words, an angel falls by Dean's hand. Oh Cas...

Another reason I love that detail is that it reminds me of Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel: in one scene of an episode I can't recall, he turns a small statue of an angel around, so it's facing the wall, away from him.

ETA2: Spike's angel-moment is from BtVS 7x06, "Him" and looks a bit like this. (Not remembering was really bugging me.)

Human Target 1x03 "Embassy Row" Review: I was watching 1x03 last night, snarking and squeeing this new show, and figured I ought to write a review of some sort. I've already ranted over the show's blurb. Blurb and trailer )

- SIMON MOTHERFUCKING TAM IN THE HOUSE! There was squee. Lots of squee.

- The extended fight-scenes are still much too long, allowing me to go from "Omg! Noo00ooo!" to "Adrenaline rush!" to "The choreography's interesting..." to "And it goes on...and on..." to "This is just filler, isn't it?"

- Quite a number of plot points were predictable - maybe not from very far off, but it did have me sitting there going, "He's totally going to do X, isn't he?" and "Saw that one coming..." and, in one memorable scene, cursing at the screen, "Not a hooker! Not a- Think you idiot!"

- Still don't really give a rat's ass about Chance, which isn't good, seeing as he's the main lead and does most of his scenes away from the two supporting leads. *sigh*

- I want more Winston and Guerrero scenes. Like, loads more. For one, I give (much, much) more than a rat's ass about them. Two, they're interesting. Three, they work so well together, it's hilarious.

- Guerrero says "dude" a lot. I find this amusing. (And for some reason, I want him to chat away with Hugo Hurley from Lost.) Can he have more scenes, please? He does manipulative mind games and other awesome things.

Accomplishment of the Day: I finally - finally - finished the last tiny details on a fanmix I've been working on since last fall. Not Anymore is now up on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories \o/

Review of the Day: Watched Little Children and loved it. It's a beautiful movie - the way it's filmed, the character's, the voice-over narration, the mini-stories weaving in with each other. There were two bits where I cringed in secondhand embarrassment and I lost count of how many times I wanted to smack certain supporting characters (and the entire community in the pool scene) for being so narrow-minded. I certainly recommend this for the story, the acting, the theme and everything in between. (PS: It was a book first, and a highly well-received one at that. The ending has one very different bit.)

Fannish Rant of the Day: As I've mentioned previous, I've started watching the new Fox *spits* television series Human Target mainly because there's a supporting actor there who currently owns my rocked-out socks. I'm sticking around with the show despite not being impressed with it - gods know I watch shows for less, right, Heroes - but I really want to lay the smackdown on whoever was in charge of making sure the show's concept (as exemplified below in the blurb) and the show itself actually matched. Read more... )

Meme - 30 Days - Day 03 - Your Favorite Television Program: I have mad love for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, wax poetical over Queer as Folk (US) and Life on Mars, squee all over Doctor Who and Dollhouse, hug the life out of Supernatural, root for the villains on Lost, giggle incessantly with Castle and fondly recollect McGyver and Third Rock from the Sun. Quote of the Day: Douglas Coupland, Eleanor Rigby, here
The thing about meat with me, though, is how it speaks to me about the human body. All of us are stuck inside our meaty bodies. I've always imagined that regular people are happy to be inside their bodies, whereas lonely people yearn to ditch their carcasses. I suspect lonely people wish they could forget the whole meat-and-bone issue altogether. We're the people most likely to believe in reincarnation simply because we can't believe we were shackled into our meat in the first place. Lonely people want to be dead, yet we're still not quite ready to go - we don't want to miss the action; we want to see who wins next year's Academy Awards. More to the point, the lonely, like all humans, yearn to meet that somebody who'll make us feel better about being trapped inside our species' meat-and-bone soul containment system. Oh God, I sound like a prison warden.

Life: Today was full of random necessary odd-jobs and writing. I also had a dream in which I confronted an ex-friend and gave her a piece of my mind. It was strangely unlike my usual dreams, in that I was mostly coherent and audible and not, as in the dreams where I confront my father over some trifle, full of frustration and sadness. Instead, it was pretty realistic (for a dream) and highly satisfying. Booyah, dream-person!

Fandomlife, Topic 1: I've fallen for Misha Collins, damn the man! Sure, I've been following his twitter (by which I mean, forgetting it exists then catchin gup every other month) and therefore knew he was pretty cool, and I think he's easy on the eyes, but now I'm all a-gush. It started whilst watching Misha Collins and Richard Speight CreationCon 2009, which was the first time I'd seen Misha live and in action, and the adorableness just rolled right off the screen. (This rolling was helped by Richard, who was likewise awesome and adorable.) (ETA: Oh my fucking god, and how hot does he look in the vest and tie? Smokin', that's how much. Unf.)

Then I watched this Comic Con interview and the gushing grew as he described the potential side-effects of that many people, and by the time he illustrated Castiel's problems with personal space, I was smitten. So now I have a YouTube Quicklist all set up with Misha interviews and I'm all, "Jon Stew-who?" Ah, bloomin' crushes.

Fandomlife, Topic 2: I read [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets. I usually skim most secrets because they're mostly anime and that just goes *whoosh* over my head, or they're about fandoms I know only vaguely. I tend to stop at the "this book is great" or "I ship this" ones, because they're always interesting or cracky.

I've also taken to reading the Supernatural ones, and I really shouldn't because they just piss me off royally. Not the ones written by fans, but rather the ones written by people who think the fans are crazy. Fuck all y'all, I say. Ranty rant is ranty. )

Nano: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] seschat, I snuck in a long-overdue physical description of Chip. Ah, self-loathing, is there nothing you can't solve? Because, seriously, Chip's rather fucked up in the head. Well, that's the apocalypse for you. But at least he's not exceedingly paranoid and antisocial anymore, which is good. Next up, Icarus the fallen angel makes an appearance! And this time he's walkin' and talkin'!

ETA: So Chip used to look like Shadow, then like the generic pale lanky dude, then like S2 Sam Winchester, and now like Dean Winchester with Sam's hair. Oy.

Ok, packing now.

ETA: Famished like my head's going to melt right off. Most of my stuff's packed now, though I fear I won't be able to physically carry it. Wish I had folk here to help me move. But it's a holiday and a post-holiday, and it all sucketh mightily. Ok, off to cart a trolley + bag + backpack to another city. Oh and did I mention? It's fucking pouring. (On and off, but still. Bad moving day.)

ETA 2:30 Lunch first, 'cause hellooo rain. Also, 2:30 seems like a good time to eat. Especially since the exodos will take near 2 hours. Feh.

ETA 5:40 Am so tired, tried opening door with bank card. Hands feel and look like have been boxing a cheese grater and only managed to escape by swinging through monkey-bar planet. Shoulder hurts like billy-o, as does elbow. Would like nothing more than to sleep now. Instead, needs unpack a bag to redistribute the omgsoheavy weight into 3 bags. May be looking to another trip to Leiden - especially considering how unwielding miror and fern are - before coming back for the key and deposit change of hands (which is at bloody 9 pm). *weeps quietly* Maybe if I called and asked for help from friendish-friends, that'd be ok?

ETA 6:58 Asked for help from friends and got a "no" and a "you should've told me earlier". Now, it might just be that I'm all stressed out and exhausted and can't think too straight, but I didn't ask earlier 'cause I thought I'd be ok. And maybe it's incredibly selfish of me, but I'd sort of hoped a friend would actually make the connection of my moving and my maybe needing help all on their own. Y'know, just maybe cross their minds, wonder how I'm doing. Excuse me while I weep in exhaustion and then try and continue packing shit.

ETA 7:31 There is absolutely no humane way a single person can carry all that I have left in my room. It's just impossible. And I'm so mother-lovin' tired. The one time I honestly and desperately need a friend and their favour and they rat out on me. (I iz upset. I not hate friend. I understand. But still, I iz upset.)

ETA 9:37 I'm 390E richer, have some luggage stowed at Central Station, and am all set to skedaddle. There will be no unpacking tonight. (I think my bed sheets are at Elisa's anyway. Suckety.)

Nothing's happening on the internet. Obviously not the end of the world***. Might as well see if I can still be an outdoor human, or whether I'll be forever confined to sofadom.

I need new TV. *pout* Bones episodes are too slow for instant "Why hallo there, you weren't accessible a few minutes ago!" and recent House episodes lack ducklings (or so I gather). Anyway, older eps would likewise be on the "2 weeks 3 days and 13 hours remaining" side of things. Is there even anything on television anymore?
