This morning was complete shite in the sense that I was all anxious and weepy and indecisive and batshit. Except for the bit where I finished translatin the Materials Safety Data Sheets. And watched Tue Blood. And typed out fic - not, y'know, actually wrote, just transcribed. Except for the Original Fic, which is more Sickle Goes Insane And Babbles than Original Fic. Yes, I am aware that I am not ok. I might be better, strolling along, dodos at my heels, and them, whops!, I've tripped over a chasm and am hanging onto a root for dear life, a batch of strawberries mocking me with their metaphoric wisdom.

"This Girl Is Taking Bets", Thea Gilmore

I went outside today (three days in a row! \o/ whoot!) although it was to ask something at the bank, which was closed because it's Monday and no one's open on Mondays, what the hell are you thinking, you crazy foreigner? So instead I asked Eerke, which is what roommates are for anyway. So I'm all paid up for the ski trip, which is a thing for celebration, I guess.

The rest of the day was spent writing a cover letter for the lion mane article and sending the reviewed documents to my supervisor. I'm a bit freaked out that I'm the one who's going to be in charge of uploading the manuscript to the magazine and doing all that submission stuff. Argh, I can't deal with this! I need to save my oompf for the jobhunt!

Speaking of, fail. I've narrowed down the list of jobs I'd come across over Friday, which basically means I narrowed it down to lab work. Which is not cause for the happy arms. Little else was done in the jobhunt department (again, no happy arms) but there's tomorrow. Tomorrow, I will not suck!

The evening was spent doing a touch of exercise because I realized that it was a bit insane to suddenly decide to go out running when it's 5 degrees out. I also listened to various podcasts about Human Target (which I am looking forward to, what the hell?!?) and Jackie Earle Haley (see Links) and sowed up the majority of the (horrible, awful, ugly) knit elephant toy until my finger up and died because it's bloody hard to sow when you're using a triangle paperclip and not McGyver. (The things I can do with a paperclip, dental floss and a pencil, yo.)

Now I'm going to scrounge up dinner and maybe knit and listen to Made of Fail. Or something.

** I lied when I said I didn't have ultimate favorites. I have an ultimate favorite short story, and this is it. I've listened to the audio so many times I can recite large chunks of it and lip-synch along to Neil.

Current Mood: sore

So today I tried to call the doctor to make an appointment (instead of yesterday, which is when I should've) because they said they were open "every day", making no mention of weeks and weekends. The first time I called (after even getting dressed to go out, because I'd do anything to put off making a phonecall), there's a recording in Dutch giving various phone numbers and saying something about, "Out for lunch, back at 2." I called again at 2 and got a different recording saying how they were closed on weekends, and I could call this number if it were an emergency.

So now I don't know what to do, whether to hold out until Monday and pray they can see me before the end of Tuesday (and they can put me on whatever delectable antibiotics I need) or whether to go for the Emergency! side. ( Sickle fails to make good plans and instead goes quietly insane. )

Also, at the Biology Building, I've been twice introduced to new Spanish ladies either working or studying there. One was introduced to me by Moon, the receptionist with whom I speak Spanish because he's trying not to lose the language, because the lady was right there. It went well. The second was introduced to me by my previous supervisor simply because the lady was Spanish and therefore I had to meet her. It didn't go so well, for a number of reasons. ( A girl's gotta rant about something. )

By the way, both my supervisors will be out of the country during my graduation, and any teachers I may have had during this program wouldn't know who I am anyway (they taught me way back in 2007) or aren't Biology teachers, so I will be speechified by the professor who helped me with the computer programs while I was working on my last project. I feel like such a failure for not having anyone.

Furthermore, I had nothing for lunch but the last dregs of the potato sack, fried. It was either than, or pasta again. Or a slice of cheese. I fail at life.

On the plus side: snow.
