On a completely unrelated note, I just learned that Jay Chou's in The Green Hornet. Congratulations, film, you now have one reason I'd be interested in watching you. X-Men, which I really want to watch, is still available only in the dubbed "ye gods no" version.

Also, I've been watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer again. Oh, show ♥ By some strange happenstance, I happened to watch Tara's introductory episode ("Hush") and her centric "finally really part of the scooby gang" episode ("Family"). Now I'm going to watch "Welcome to the Hellmouth", where it all started. Ah, my youth!

Today was spent running a single errand which involved taking the train to the Hague, then the tram to the ass-end of the city (it was beyond my city map) and slipping along ice fields to the closest DHL to send an envelope bearing a health insurance card. Not counting transport, this stint cost fifty-eight mother-lovin' euros. For an envelope! And last night I scoured the internet looking for courier service that was available in my city or not a ridiculous distance away, like Amsterdam or Rotterdam. *sigh* What can you expect, though: we haven't even got a post office anymore, just kiosks with postage capabilities.

Errand run, I went home and cleaned out my desk's drawers. The trash, oh lord, the trash one can stash!

I've also updated the epic crushes masterlist to add Rorschach, because he's a keeper.

Photographic and gif. evidence (and spoilers!) as to why there's a part of my cortex (and a puddle of drool on my desk) with his name on it. )

Masterlist of Sickle's "Omg, I'm So Obsessed" Crushes:

This is a list of actors, writers and fictional characters whom my brain's latched onto at some point or other. This isn't a list of people I find hot (that list is way longer and does, of course, include some of those listed here). Rather, it's the people I've developed an unhealthy obsession for at some point in my life, who've fascinated me for some reason, who's work I've tracked down like a bloodhound or took over my POV-analysis lobe. In other words, uber-crushes without, necessarily, the sexin'. I'm undoubtably forgetting some.

Below, then, is the list with photos and a brief reason as to the why of the obsession and the person's main features.

WARNING: Will eat your dial-up alive.

I hope everyone's start to 2009 went smoothly, or at least passed without too much ado. My first day of the year was spent in a pretty lazy manner, what with the sleeping and eating. Of note, I've checked out the two Kenya travel guides we've borrowed from the library and I've burnt 2 DVDs-worth of stuff out of my 'puter. I feel like tackling a fanvid. (Hey, it could happen.) So that's all good.

That's all, folks. Just posting to give y'all a snuggle.

PS: I'm still all a-glee over my mood theme. ♥

Things done today:

1) Internetted (thrice)
2) Babbled about Doctor Who finale on livejournal
3) Got put on waiting list for Self study textbooks at library
3b) Chatted happily with both librarian and porter/secretary guy.
4) Sudokued.
5) Ate stuff.
6) Listened to the first half of Neverwhere.
7) Failed at museum-ing because my open hours aren't in synch with the world's.
8) Resolutely did not break into a blubbery wibbly mess. Go me. (But then, I'm not really feeling much of anything most of the time. Not caring, it is of the not good.)

Not a very good list, all things considered. It's days like these that really put one's lifetime into perspective - whether you see it as an hourglass or a giant stack of calendars. Point is, today's been a waste of day, a wasted day. Might as well not have lived this particular day out, and now I'm not getting that time back.

I still desperately want to knit. (And get back to playing the piano, but getting knitting needles is a tad cheaper. And yes, I've tried drawing piano key's but I really do need the sound to relearn piano-playing, not just the visual "fingers go here".) The thing is, I do know how to knit - well, the actual knitting part of it, I can't make anything other than a long strip of knitted yarn. I never learnt how to cast on, because mom always did that for me and never actually did it slowly enough or with enough patience of me to learn it. (Which, you know, sucks.)

I had a meeting with my other supervisor today - not my actual supervisor, but the guy who would've been had he had time, and the one who knows about the topic. He's got studies set up in Cameroon and Kenya, and he was trying to set up a study of African wild dogs in Cameroon, but they seem to be extinct there now. Anyway, yesterday, as I mentioned, he asked if I'd be interested in doing some field work for him in Amboseli National Park. We talked a bit today about the research - radio-tracking lions and their interactions with the cattle of neighbouring Maasai.

On the one hand it seems like a dream come true, but on the other hand I'm terrified of the possibility. Read more... )

After a few hours of fiddling with Powerpoint, I now have a title slide. Whoo-to-the-hoo. That should not be the sum total of today's work, but it is. Le suck? Much. I might as well go home and take out my contacts (ye gods, please) and have some supper. I wonder if anyone's eaten the plate of Bananananana cake I left out with a little Eat me! flag-onna-toothpick. (I made two over the weekend, one for the picnic and one for personal consumption.) Going off to a Belgian bar Olivier later with flatmates to say goodbye to Lydia, the Italian on exchange who's leaving the house. I knew her for only a little, but I really liked her and we got along nicely. Shame.
