I keep writing posts in my head, in detail, about all the events and feelings and musings I want to share or simply need to set down. But then time passes and I get everything together and then there's nothing to say. I've been quite lax in posting as of late - and by that I mean something like the past few months, honestly - and for that, well, sorry. If anything for the out-of-date links. Whatev'. I hope everyone had a good New Year's Eve and Day, and wish y'all the best for 2012. Smile! If we live through the Mayan apocalypse, we get to look forward to the Croatoan virus.

One reason I've not been writing anything is that I've been spending all my time blissfully mellowed out with Tumblr. Another, more acceptable reason, is that there's nothing to say. Which is of course a lie because I could always pull something out about fandom, at the least. But lately I've not been doing much. Well, I've been finishing compilations (see below). But otherwise not really doing much of anything. Today I went out running after weeks of impersonating a hibernating grub and I started looking for plane tickets to go visit my brother, although that's causing all sorts of anxiety because I don't even know. (The looking-for-tickets thing, not visiting-my-brother, mind.) I did go socializing that one time, with my volunteer-work supervisor, which was lovely and wonderful, but it's quite sad to basically be able to point at a month or a string of months, "That's when I hung out with folk." So I've been Tumblring a lot and watching a lot of television and huddling under every warm thing I can find and generally not thinking about much of anything. Except maybe about how I'm still waiting for a Christmas card from [livejournal.com profile] mrscastielftw to arrive - it's somewhere in the between-homes postage ether - and it's getting to be a long, sad wait. It doesn't help that I've been falling asleep at 4 am these past few days.

Even now I'm drawing a blank, just that I really wanted to post because a) it's the new year and I might as well tell y'all I'm not dead and b) Links of the Day. So there you go. Oh, and memes. Now, excuse me, I have some American Horror Story to streamline into my veins.

In other news, this weekend I'm most looking forward to seeing more of Canton on Doctor Who, which explains why I had a dream in which I asked Mark Sheppard if he was in more than two episodes in Doctor Who. (He said "yes" and I said "Yes!".) Then we saw leopards and cheetahs in the bushes at night before the local Big Man with his machetes came to force the village to play a manual-dexterity game, in which the losers lost a finger - ETA: And by "lost" I mean "had chopped off with a machete" - and then I took over the gang and set things right. The cold I've been sneezing and sniffling all past week decided that today was the day it was going to make me dizzy, woozy and headachey. I slipped into a nap in the afternoon as I lay horizontal in the hopes that the ground would solidify beneath me, and I'm still feeling out of sorts (and dizzy, let's not forget dizzy).

Jolted out of an unexpected nap and still reeling from The Cold is not the best way in which to answer a phonecall about setting up an appointment with Organization to discuss my CV. I managed to do so somehow, although I barely remember who I spoke to or what they say - at machine-gun speed, too. Nevertheless, Wednesday morning will be interesting.

This weekend was the Jus in Bello Convention weekend. It's in Rome. Y'all remember how I felt about this last year, right? *sigh* So close, so far, so stupid. I think, though, that a little loss here or there, putting up with yet another learning experience or growth opportunity, is about a gazillion times better than shutting down your empathy and never giving anything to anyone for fear that it might be misused. Leave some chinks in your armor, or you'll suffocate in your safety and never understand why it hurts so much even though there's no one there but you.

Today, I went out for a walk in the afternoon in the hopes of "raising my spirits" and "clearing my head" and all that other stuff walks are supposed to do, and instead got rained on for the most part, stood under a tiny overhang from a shop while two couples at two different points started arguing bitterly and loudly and that's why I wanted out of the house, universe! and waited for a bus which would not come because it doesn't run Sundays, until I took another one which took me sort of home. Remind me never to take an evening constitutional ever again.

Dad's got Dupuytren's contracture (or, more awesomely, "Viking disease"), which is where "the tough connective tissue within one's hand becomes abnormally thick which can cause the fingers to curl and can result in impaired function of the fingers, especially the small and ring fingers." He's looking into treatment and surgery options.

Now, there's no real known cause for this disease, although there's a lot of finger pointing, particularly at "trauma, diabetes, alcoholism, epilepsy therapy with phenytoin and liver disease." But the interesting thing is that 60-70% of those afflicted have a genetic predisposition to D's c. You know what this means, right? I am totally losing at the Genetic Roulette here. Where my genetics might hurt me. )

So there I am, scanning through Time We Saw a Miracle, looking for quotes to slip into the fanmix because I'm obsessive yes I know when I see a formatting error. A formatting error. After fighting with the damn thing for ages and churning out dozens of PDFs and reuploading the manuscript to CreateSpace and checking and rechecking and there's a bloody formatting error. It's just a few spaces missing, two empty lines that should separate a passage in italics from a passage in normal text, so it's not like Godzilla took a hatchet to it, but still, there's a formatting error being all ugly in my proof book.

One day, when I have money and patience (ha!) I will reupload these little bastards and damn the cost and get new proofs and all will be well with the world.

I was going to write more - talk about the day or post photos or show signs of life in general - but frankly writing this much is more than I can at the moment. Or today.

...fucking formatting error.

Because I am so very far behind in posting anything of substance, not that there's is much, have some bullet points:

- Triangle (2009) is fantastically awesome and kinda needs to be put on repeat once or twice until your brain makes sense of everything. Win. Trailer, which I only watched once and said, "I need to watch this film" and a year and a half later, I still hadn't seen hide nor hair of the film and barely remembered anything except that it was awesome, so I tracked it down and here I am all a-squee. Although apparently people are saying the trailer spoils you too much and you should go in blind, so, uh, you could do that too.

- Stray cats of win! Bob the Cat (not to be confused with Fake-Bob, a black-with-grey-hairs cat who is less of the "pet me!" variety) is back, sitting up and meowing for caresses. There's also a new cat around, with one eye and missing one lower canine, who is henceforth called Greebo, for obvious reasons, who is also a "pet me!" fiend. Lastly, a long-haired black cat who very much likes to be petted has popped by a few times, and will henceforth be Valhallarama

- I finished listening to How to Train Your Dragon and holy wow, it has nothing to do with the movie apart from there being the same names and dragons and vikings. So. Different. (So awesome.)

- Yesterday was Free Night at the Museum day, and they'd just opened the Palazzo Barberini after fixing up a few galleries. They opened at 7, mom and I were in line a little after 6. One hour later and we were still in line - a line that was ten to twelve people wide so all you could see was the shirt of the person in front of you and couldn't move at all - and not moving at all. Cue Sickle feeling dizzy, her vision going black, and the insistent buzzing in her ears turning into a dull yet deafening roar. Eh, oui, I was moments away from fainting. I scrambled out of the crowd and sat with my head bent low over my knees until I was aware of the world around me, at which point a young, cute and terribly annoying man comes over asking if I'm okay, if I'm pregnant, if I need water, if I want to tell him what's wrong in English, and I'm just, "Gah, *handwave* I'm fine, go away, don't make me think now."

- Ever since I watched Devour I've been meaning to rewatch it and write up all the snark, or at least do so without rewatching it, but I seem to not have the time. I've got some notes for Disney's Anastacia (which sucked and is so not the thing to watch after reading an extensive biography of Tzar Nicholas II and family).

- I've been working a lot of the OPush fanvid and I've gotten through the first of Dean's verses and have the second one all planned out. I'm a bit miffed that I can't seem to not do chronological timelines, but if the images fit, what can I do? *sigh* I'm so, so ready for this project to be done with.

Relatively uneventful weekend, if you discount my breaking out in a sheen of sweat and nearly fainting on the train on the way back from the beach "uneventful". (Stpuid reproductive system and pain receptors!)

Otherwise, very uneventfull: I finished my internship, made sure Mr "I don't know how to do anything" Dad didn't startve to death, typed out most of the finished (!) not-so-cracky Doctor Who and Stonehenge Apocalypse fic, watched the pilot of Sherlock - which was FANTASTIC in all its capslock glee (they used on-screen text! Thank you! Oh, that helps and entertains me so much!) - walked around and messed about with now, oh, four fanmixes? (It's a compulsion. Or an obsession. Something. Not Good, is what it is. Which is ironic, because one of the mixes is, in fact, about OCD.)

So today I've just listened to [livejournal.com profile] made_of_fail_pc's Episode 31 where my pimpage of [livejournal.com profile] wptjeh was successfully linked in the show notes and WHY AM I SHAKING? Because Dayna read my email on the air and I am a silly person who squees. Mightily.

Also, *insert epic!facepalm here* because a grammatical error I had the vague suspicion of doing was actually done and now I feel like an idiot. Why is there fail in my cake? I now feel compelled to PM Dayna and explain how I have no idea how that double-negative creaped in. *hangs head in grammatical shame* Five minutes later, and that compulsion has been resolved in the form of a "Thank you, much appreciated, (I'm an idiot)" email. *shakes the fail off*

The logical part of Chip’s brain tried to come up with a plausible explanation but gave up – I don’t even know, okay? I’m only grey matter. – after discarding various scenarios that even it could not accept as possible, much less likely. Logical, yes, but also impossible, which is just about twisting my merry band of brain cells into pretzels.

Life: So I'm at work (or whatever it's called when you're working on something studenty and not getting paid and therefore being a disappointment to all). I'm alternatively bashing my head against Access and procrastinating, although both tasks currently contain Epic Fail. Working on this program always makes me very wibbley because it's so frustrating and it makes me feel so, so stupid to boot. Also, if the professor's busy, I'm hung out to dry because there's only so much searching, googling and random-button-pressing before you throw your hands up in the air and give up in the face of Access' cryptic ways.

And the wibble just continues from yesterday, where I got home, lay down on the bed and wept for half an hour for reasons I have yet to understand. I don't even know, guys. Fuck. Who want's a pair of ovaries, going cheap? Guaranteed to keep your eyes extra-moist for one week out of every four.

Then I stayed writing Nano and procrastinating, or procrastinating and attempting to write Nano, at which I failed spectacularly, and finally at 2 am I thought I ought to go to sleep. Which means that today's morning pretty much went out the window. *sigh* Fucking hormones of woe.

It's been going well today, although I've gone o.0 at some of my writing because it got so out of hand. It was a bit tricky getting Icarus' Road Trip plan to work, because even if the three men got trapped in the car, surrounded by zombies, Agatha would still be in the apartment. And anyway, unless the building's safety was compromised, there'd be no rush for them to a) leave immediately or b) take Icarus along. But Icarus mojoed the front door open - a fact which may or may not be clear, but since this is Chip's POV we're all good - and so Chip's being a hero and getting Agatha out of the now-zombie-infested building before they can all leave together. Oh Icarus, you bad-ass bastard, calling the zombiehorde to you :)

Yesterday night was pretty fantastically awesome because Gabrielle had invited me to a little chill-out at her place before we all went to Einstein's. It was the usual gang - us two, the two italians and the french guy - plus a new girl called Jodi who's from Texas and is very sweet as well. So we had student-version pizzas (mini-pitas with pizza toppings) and Kir (or is it Kier?), which was wine with creme de cassis (blackcurrant liquor) and most excellent. I had a very good time :)

Of course, I went to sleep ages late and, considering my recent track record waking up, I totally missed out on a productive morning. I had a sandwich before going to work (on account of omgnofoodinnahouse), by which time it was past noon. I redid the t-test for some indices (but the "Look! Of course they're significant! They've got the maximum value!" points are still...not) and emailed my brother about it. We've been going back and forth about it a bit, and while no progress has been made, it's nice to have some help and insightful questions thrown my way.

And then I did nothing. Seriously, I've been craptastic today, horrendously unable to work or focus or anything. It also doesn't help that I have a frustrated hormononal rage on the low burn which, if left unchecked, will in fact morph into the wibbles. This means I'm currently easily distracted and unfocused and two steps away from a sputtering teary rage. *head-desk* I don't know what to do.

Imma go home now.
