This is just bad writing. *
Nov. 21st, 2009 11:09 pmNano: Whoot! I'm super good on the wordcount for the day, and also I think I'm good for the general wordcount, in that I don't think I'll hit the end scene way before the 50,000 mark. (Oh my gods, I'm actually writting a novel. Wow.)
It's been going well today, although I've gone o.0 at some of my writing because it got so out of hand. It was a bit tricky getting Icarus' Road Trip plan to work, because even if the three men got trapped in the car, surrounded by zombies, Agatha would still be in the apartment. And anyway, unless the building's safety was compromised, there'd be no rush for them to a) leave immediately or b) take Icarus along. But Icarus mojoed the front door open - a fact which may or may not be clear, but since this is Chip's POV we're all good - and so Chip's being a hero and getting Agatha out of the now-zombie-infested building before they can all leave together. Oh Icarus, you bad-ass bastard, calling the zombiehorde to you :)

When they reached the ground floor, the air thrummed with the echo of Icarus’ fist and Chip could feel a headache coming to a point. There was no peephole, no way to know whether the coast was clear or not, but Chip figured if Icarus still had an arm to pound with then the infected were still far enough away.
Turns out, far enough away is a pretty loose definition of a distance. When the two men edged out of the apartment building, weapons raised, the infected were already coming down the street. They weren’t coming in twos or threes, either, like they had earlier that day. Chip figured they must have hung around the neighbourhood after following them to the door. It was the only way he could explain the solid wall of infected that was running to the dinner bell.
The two looked at each other then ran for it. Chip hopped over the trunk of his car and grabbed Icarus’ fist before it could reconnect with the metal. “God damn you,” he hissed, pulling the man towards him. Saunders was beside him, pushing Icarus back, trying to get him past the cars and towards the door.
They were almost behind the cars when the infected flooded around them.
Chip was crushed against the side of his car by three infected who couldn’t master the art of slowing down and almost lost his grip on his crowbar. He squeezed the metal hard and tried to bring his arm up, but it was pinned between him and the car. His head rang – he must have hit it on something, the car maybe – and his breath had been knocked out of him. He could feel the hot rolling mass of infected pressing against him and wondered if this was what being in a meat grinder felt like.
