Life continues to plod along, CVs continue to be sent, and very little else continues to be done. Have a meme and LotD to show how not dead I am. *sigh* Sorry, I've just got zip to say.

You'll never guess what I did today! I did stuff! I actually did something and that Something was accomplished!

It involved bureaucracy. )

Today is - or rather was, by the time I get this posted - my brother's birthday. Even though he's way over in far off lands currently struggling with the snowpocalypse, we celebrated the traditional way - food (chocolate mousse whatwhat!) and booze. Well, we called him, too. He's 33 now, which makes me feel so, so old. In less than 3 years, I'm going to be 30. I can't even begin to imagine what I want my life to be like by then. I can't even get myself out of this rut, it seems. They say all states are temporary, but damn it if they don't feel permanent when you're living them. But damn it, I CAN HAS HOPE. AND OOMPF. MORE THINGS WILL GET DONE!

In other news, I CAN HAS SUPERNATURAL TOMORROW. There is much joy over this.

Oh, and you can totally tell from the Links of the Day that I haven't posted them in ages. It's more like Monster Links of the Week, and I mean Scary Evil Big Monster. And fear its mate, the Tag Monster!

I think I'm very probably that deluded prostitute who tells everyone that she's actually an actress.

As someone who just played through Mass Effect 2, I have this to say:

It is absolutely our destiny as humans to travel to the stars, to explore the vastness of space and discover the wonders that await us.

And we should do this while armed to the goddamned teeth.

Apart from the entries on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories, I have a notebook - what used to be an agenda for 2010, but this year hasn't really made me need it - where I jot down scene ideas and snippets of dialogue, and where I try like hell to organize them into some sort of progression. (This happens, that that scene, then this is said, and so forth.) It brings me great squee and sense of accomplishment to cross scenes out with a little \o/ and Yatta!

So far, so good, and by the time Chip heads out on patrol again, he'll have had a heart-to-heart with Icarus (who'll be moping), been assaulted by a demon, and faught off a massive wave of infected (who are anticipating Kezef, who'll show up the next day). That's...a lot of stuff that has to happen.

But the going's still good. I have no idea if the whole is worth anything, but I'm trying to keep all the bits together, keep them moving, and sticking in bits of Chip introspection and panic and angst, because if not it wouldn't be TFSB 2, would it?

...OMG I just realized how pathetically covered in hearts and rainbows the excerpt is. Oh lawdy. It's not supposed to be a "they're soul mates and love each other" thing, but a "they're a team and separate from the others" thing. Oy.

It is better to conquor yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heavon or hell.

...Today Is the First Day of the Rest of Your Life.*

After much freaking out and "I cannae do this, Captain!" I managed to call the guy from FAO about volunteerships and internships. I stuttered a bit, shook a bit more, and finally managed to speak. He, on the other hand, sounded like the most wonderful person ever. He basically told me to go the usual route with the forms and stuff, but he told me about two other agencies that do similar work and also provided his email so I could forward him my application. So \o/ on that.

I then went and had lunch with Willy, and there was much squee and joy. It was pretty hilarious how I was high on caffeine and sociality and saying how I was miserable with the biggest grin on my face. Oh brain, you so weird!

And continuing our nightly tradition of anxiety dreams, or nightmares, I had another one! About having two buckets full of water and trying to move fish out of one, realizing that the big fish were eating the small ones so panicking even more about taking the fish out, then realizing that the big bucket I was holding the two buckets in has a mother-lovin' baby crocodile in it and then the bucket I'm holding is practically churning with little crocodiles and there's a tortoise over on the side.

I'm going to recover from today's madness - yes, it's 4 pm and the day can be over now, thanks - and watch Lost. Then I have to pull myself together enought write a few emails expressing my condolences because holy shit, y'all, violence in Nairobi to people I know. Willy just told me what happened and it's really, really bad.

This weekend wasn't a complete loss. Real life - not as fascinating as one might think. )

Today's been pretty rushed. More of that real life nonsense. )

In other news, I've discovered the 1998 movie Playing By Heart (Part 1, YouTube). The cast? Just about knocks my socks off. But the bit that I'm squeeing over (and that is the only reason I found this movie) is the plotline with Gillian Anderson and Jon Stewart (Part 1, Part 2). There's a kissing scene - mainly off-screen in that we get a lot of back-of-the-head shots - that is certainly not helping me in my current Massive Crush state. (Fingers! In hair!) Although my favorite bit is when Jon's "Trent" is threatening to jump overboard, 'cause it sounds so like him. Guess what I'm going to watch tonight? ;)

In related news, I've discovered the upcoming movie Nailed which is summarized as:
A small town waitress gets a nail accidentally lodged in her head causing unpredictable behavior that leads her to Washington, DC, where sparks fly when she meets a clueless young senator who takes up her cause - but what happens when love interferes with what you stand for?

But basically all you need to know is it's basically Phineas Gage as a spunky waitress - which has me totally going because neurological conditions are fascinating - and has Jon Stewart. Oh baby, I'm sold.

Icon Post - 79 Icons

Apart from the above icons (which were a pain, because the whole thing was filmed in blue tones), I've done sweet fuck-all today. Woke up at 1 pm (went to sleep at 4 am), read some fic, walked a tad, cooked for the first time all week and...yeah.

Today I got a new wheel for my bike, knitting thingies for a new project (stuffed elephant, as a gift), spent aaaages trying to knit (undoing, redoing, rinse-and-repeat) and wrote some postcards, although gods know hwhere the post office is And...yeah. Today's been pretty meh.

Yesterday we had a house-meeting, so we call had dinner together and discussed how to be clean and considerate. It was nice. I then watched Dog Soldiers (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] fallen_iceangel, as yes, it is awesome) and Supernatural (hi-larious in the extreme). I also practiced some chords on Betsy, at which I sucked.

Alright, enough filler postage, have some links as I wander off to watch Underworld 3

Quotes of the Day: Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale
You would look at the man one day and you would think, I loved you, and the tense would be past, and you would be filled with a sense of wonder, because it was such an amazing and precarious and dumb thing to have done; and you would know too why your friends had been evasive about it, at the time.

Elayne Boosler (stand-up comedian)
Men and women perceive crime TOTALLY differently. Once when I was walking in New York with a boyfriend, he said, 'Gee, it's a beautiful night. Let's go down by the river.' 'What? Are you nuts? It's midnight; I'm wearing jewelry; I'm carrying money; I have a vagina with me... Tomorrow, I'll leave it in my other pants. Then we'll go down.'
