You'll never guess what I did today! I did stuff! I actually did something and that Something was accomplished!

It involved bureaucracy. See, even though Europe is currently being all, "Wee! Europeans! All for one, no borders, Schengen!", which means we can live and work anywhere, we still technically have to register with the government and of course still need to get fiscal numbers. This sounds straightforward but in actuality required a lot of running around trying to find the correct offices for my neighbourhood and getting the right documents. But finally - finally - I figured I had everything.

So yesterday I went by the police station, where I got a paper my dad filled out, saying that yes, I was living with them. Today I went back to the police station at ungodly hours of the morning - well, not so ungodly - and had it stamped, signed, and photocopied. Then I went to the Comune di Roma to actually register myself with my current address. The wait took one hour, and I was getting pretty stressed out because I didn't know if I actually did have all the required documents and wasn't sure I didn't have to fill in some forms that were hanging around.

When it was finally my turn, though, I got the nicest and kindest woman I have ever gotten at a public office. Or really anywhere, especially in Rome, where the Information Desk duo can ignore you right to your face as they call over a college to chat. She looked over my papers, chatted with me, and when I wasn't sure about certain information - apparently out apartment has an actual number, not that it shows anywhere - tried to find out information herself and then let me call my folks to ask. She explained the whole process so far and what's left to be done - they need verbal verification that I'm living where I say I'm living, and that they do with a house visit - and even gave me information on how to get my fiscal number. I'm still happily shocked at how nice she was. (And she was showing the ropes to a new worker, too. And she was past-middle-age, too.)

So basically, I can has registration! And next week, I can has fiscal number! I can exist in eyes of Roman government! Whoot!

Today is - or rather was, by the time I get this posted - my brother's birthday. Even though he's way over in far off lands currently struggling with the snowpocalypse, we celebrated the traditional way - food (chocolate mousse whatwhat!) and booze. Well, we called him, too. He's 33 now, which makes me feel so, so old. In less than 3 years, I'm going to be 30. I can't even begin to imagine what I want my life to be like by then. I can't even get myself out of this rut, it seems. They say all states are temporary, but damn it if they don't feel permanent when you're living them. But damn it, I CAN HAS HOPE. AND OOMPF. MORE THINGS WILL GET DONE!

In other news, I CAN HAS SUPERNATURAL TOMORROW. There is much joy over this.

Oh, and you can totally tell from the Links of the Day that I haven't posted them in ages. It's more like Monster Links of the Week, and I mean Scary Evil Big Monster. And fear its mate, the Tag Monster!
