bending_sickle: (Toaster success!)
Today's news:

1) Impressive 45-minute presentation is impresive.
2) As-yet-unread chapter is huuuuge.
3) Hogfather movie is totally all that.
4) Mr Teatime, of Hogfather is one freaky bastard.
5) Teatime laughs like a very reserved Mozart. Yes, that laugh.
6) Can I please recognize actors whilst I'm watching and not, say, facepalm because Marc Warren (Mr Teatime) was both on a Life on Mars episode and Doctor Who's "Love and Monsters" and I never realized?
7) I didn't care much for Teatime as eye-candy until I saw the coat of sex. The coat of sex in action. The coat of sex is too sexy to have a good screencap but damn if it don't slay. (That's Medium Dave on the left, played by Mr Guiness, who looks too familiar for my own good.)

And finally:

I got the room, baby! Oh yeah, oh yeah, shake it! I got the room!

Meaning, I got a text message saying I got it. So tomorrow's dinner party will truly be a dinner party! I still don't know the cost of said room, but squee! Room! With people I like! In a house and not a dorm! With furniture! Smack in the middle of Leiden! Two steps and a skip from Elisa and Laura's!

Ahem. We are pleased.

ETA: We are also very, very pleased at a certain little post over on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes. *high-pitched squee* *glomps [livejournal.com profile] lienne*

Discussion of the Day: Why can't I turn off the Science Viewpoint?!?
[livejournal.com profile] lienne posts about an elephant painting. It's not Ruby, but rather a group of six or so elephants in Chaing Mai. The drawing wasn't at all what I was expecting from previous elephant and chimp drawings. In fact, the more I watched the video, the more suspicious I because. Why lookit, I have an opinion. Please don't eat me. )

Drama of the Day: Wank on [livejournal.com profile] chasingtides's [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes
It got me quite riled up because I don't think the wanker - and yes, I mean that in all senses - is knowledgable about either religion or science. I mean, broad much? Not every religion is about not-going-to-hell. Although [livejournal.com profile] shaysdays is awesome as ever. Also, there is a huge fucking flaw in this allocation of fault. If you don't know enough about it, don't mock it! Case in point. Oh, and we have burnt scientists at the stake for not being hip to our jive - only nowadays we don't because such behavour is frowned upon, now we just shun them academically. And oh my gods, scientists are not so "Ooooh, logic, it must be so", "Oh, well, since you put it that way, you're quite right". They can hang on to theorems like pitbulls. Oh sweet merciless pits, guess who I'm shaking my pompoms for?

A present from me to you: Sylar scenes all in one go! Hell yeah! Take it while it's 'cause he's hot!

Found and posted Chapter 22 of Hero's Manual. Not that anyone reads it. *pout*

In other news, a government branch - represented by a group of three - came into my house today to check on the house itself (whether it was livable and safe) and that everyone registered to live here actually was (and vice versa) and had contracts. How truly Dutch.

It was a bizarre experience, because a) while it was 1 pm, I hadn't even had breakfast yet and b) authority law figures make me somewhat uncomfortable in case, somehow, they decide I'm guilty of something. But everything went well and all my papers checked out. I even tought one of 'em something - namely that my Spanish ID is valid for all of Eurpoe, 'cause we're a loving community who accepts things like this.

Yesterday's outing was most excellent. Lander picked me up on his bike - riding double is a very difficult thing indeed! *death grip* - and we went to Proost, where we had a choice of two social events. We eventually settled for the backroom, where his International Law collegues were playing darts. (I threw for the first time ever, with noticable improvement. Watching professional dart shooters, as I have previously done, doesn't help you, but it's entertaining. Ish.) The people were really nice and interesting and, while my body still screamed "I'm nervous and shy and not at all relaxed!", my face was a-giggle and I enjoyed myself. One extra-nice thing was that there was one guy, Ashran or Asran, whom I was a bit attracted to, and we got along nicely. :D

Tomorrow is my internship meeting, and I might meet up with Mariska (email recept pending). Friday I'm heading off to Amsterdam with Lander and whoever cares to join for museum fun.

You're entitled to a night or two in bed*

It's 2:20 pm and I've been studying for approximately half an hour. Shit. I seriously tried to wake up round 10, or even 10:30, but doing so was like crawling out a grave. A very comfortable grave. That sucked back. Ugh. It felt like waking up a zombie (and I've contemplated that enough to write about it - scroll to Epilogue - so this isn't really a crack metaphor).

I'm currently learning irregular-in-the-past-tense verbs, although "irregular" usually just means "exactly like in German, biatch". (Does this make me feel better equipped for the exam? Hell no.)

I'm incredibly amused that raden means both to guess and to advise.

ETA: From yesterday's exercises: Ik mis mijn familie.***
ETA2: It's 3:20 pm. I have a summarized list of irregular verbs. I'm sorely tempted to throw my notes into the fireplace give up lie on the floor moping take a small break, make lunch and watch Lost. *sigh*

***

Yesterday whilst**** watching Lost, I really wanted to ruffle Ben's^ hair. And put him back into those striped PJ's. Oh, Ben, why do I like you? I mean, yeah, Manipulative Evil Bastard^^, but apart from that? The giant hamster joke? Not enough, really. And besides, he's eeevil manupilative, for no reason, whereas Sylar's manipulation have a very obvious, very sexy purpose. Self, stop liking Ben! He creaps us out!

Also, Locke (whom we no longer find cool, just disturbingly "Hear the higher calling" crazy). When he said, all puppy-eyed, "You said I was special," I thought, "Hmm, sounds so familiar..." Half an hour later I get up bug-eyed from my bed and realize he was channelling Sylar-cakes. And that's where the brain broke down, because the last thing we want it to find points of comparism between Sylar and Locke. Just no.

^ Not, as my last few rereads of this would suggest, [livejournal.com profile] ursulav's Ben. Aw, now I can't take crazy Ben seriously! He shares a name with a cat! And jokes about hamsters! (Seriously, I'll never find that joke and it's delivery not funny.)

I watched PotC: AWE yesterday. Cue squee. *squee* It was better than DMC - much, much better - and not just because it didn't have that god-awful giant hamster-wheel scene. *shudder* I loved the "Davy Jones' Locker" scene, though I did have a moment of severe willies because it was just too much like Secret Window. However, extremely iconable. Ditto for the many great one-liners.

Despite my love of Jack, Barbossa** was the best. Jack just fumbled about, being even less morally-grey that the other films. The little references to the previous films were nice, being not so heavy-handed as in DMC. I absolutely loved it when I remembered Delma's "Same story, different versions, and all of them are true", when the pirates were discussing whether it was a woman or the sea Davy Jones fell in love with.

I will complain a bit, however, at 1) Chow being reduced to a plot-device, 2) the lame explanation of why Tia Delma brought Barbossa back, 3) lack of in-depth characterization. Though on that last bit, maybe I ask too much.

As always, you must stay until the very end, past the credits, to watch the little Easter Egg. My appreciation of it was a bit ruined by a) Orlando Bloom and his silly bandana and b) thinking how incredibly hard life it must be for those waiting.

Brother's sleeping over at my place since Monday, though he's a bit non-talkative and busy working on a project. We might go to the Pirineos (mountain range between Spain and France) Saturday, then to Cubelles. We had lunch with mom yesterday, and I carried on the tradition of crying bitterly into my petit chou (aka profiteroles).

I don't think I could handle going over the details of the Mother-Brother-Me dynamics. Let's just say that it can be tough at times, and that it seems I've been going on too long without being criticized. I seem to have grown soft in protecting myself against harsh words.

But then there's those rare moments of camaradie which almost make it all worthwhile.

I don't believe an accident of birth makes people sisters or brothers. It makes them siblings, gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and brotherhood is a condition people have to work at.

Need to be tempted first?

JKRowling
Koalas sleep for 22 hours a day, two hours more than J.K. Rowling.
J.K. Rowling can live for up to a week without a head!

US foreign policy
Three seagulls flying overhead are a warning that US foreign policy is near.
More people are killed by US foreign policy each year than die in aeroplane accidents.
US foreign policy can sleep for three and a half years!

Baby kitties
You should always store baby kitties in an airtight container in the fridge!
There is actually no danger in swimming right after you eat baby kitties, though it may feel uncomfortable.

Oh god, I´m such a slasher at heart. Why can´t everyone else be too? Let´s all join [livejournal.com profile] davidhearne in laughter, who was quoted on [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes as saying:

This article on Brokeback Mountain provides this memorable line --

"The young ladies who are fans of Gyllenhaal and Ledger do not want to see them making out."

Ha.

Ha-ha.

HA HA HA HA...

About real-life, it´s Gran´s 82rd (?) b-day, mom´s leaving Tuesday, I´ve got a French placement exam Friday and none of this is good. Except for the birthday thing...

Procrastinating again. Sue me.

Case in point: There´s a fabulous review for the fim "Bloodrayne" (never heard or it ´cept via a metaquotes just now). Scathingly wonderful review.

e.g. " Sadly, this vampire tale only further proves that somebody needs to finally march to Germany and violently pry the camera out of his hands."

Snake brefreinds hamster here.
bending_sickle: (Default)
...there´s someone with the same quirks as you. Honest. You´re just as wierd as anyone else. If you took all the little pieces that make you unique, bizarre or in some way different, and walked around the world, you´d find someone else with a replica.

I can´t make a poetical metaphor.

What I´m saying is that there will always be someone out there to say, "What? Me too!" and that is one of the most comforting thoughts I can conjure up.

Case in point:

[livejournal.com profile] missfahrenheit: "I have to sleep with the covers up and over my neck as protection from vampires."

*raises hand* "Me too!"
Well, when I was little at least. Now it´s over my ears.

On another note, have saved some caps from Firefly, so I´ve got work for the "holidays". Of course, I´ll need internet access for all those times I know I´ll scream, "Talk to me, program! Help! Do as I say!" Yes, you *can* curse, plead and ask for help at the same time.

Cheese can´t.

Yesterday I was walking through the friggin´ streets with no name of Barcelona and thinking about the inordinte number of cheese quotes I had*. One quote talked about cheese not actually begging to be eaten, as it doesn´t speak. So I thought:

Cheese does not beg. Cheese does not plead. Cheese screams out in the night to be consumed by you. It demands to be eaten, like a general shouting orders to his soldiers, with the words, "Put me in your mouth!**" (A very liberal army, then.)

Yes, I´m wierd.

Also, a cat haiku, inspired by [livejournal.com profile] babyslime´s icon haiku***,
Cat struts in with pride.
Look! A beheaded mouse for you.
Now feed me, human.

Ps: It´s official. I love the internet. It has given me the Firefly Easter Egg. I´m now going to watch Adam Baldwin sing “The Hero of Canton”. So happy.

* Such as the graffiti I saw at the green line end of the Berri uqam station:

"Josh and Eva Hinley love cheese. Joe hates cheese."

Joe is strange. The people that wrote the graffiti? Geniuses.

** Apparently, there´s a song called, "Put me in ya mouth". Ergo the line.
**Cat Haiku 13: "Cats meow out of angst. / Thumbs! If only we had thumbs! / We could break so much!"

Kick me when I´m down why don´t you?

This post about people with no kissage-experience being "just sad" makes me feal all kinds of wierd. And angry. Though ladysorka is my hero.

*curses*

"It´s just sad", my arse. Just let me get within kicking distance...

Have decided to be completely random about topic title. Because I can.

It might be what some would call fahng-tzong fung-kwong duh jeh* but I´ve just spent the entire day bored out of my mind. Not even discovering, via metaquotes, that somewhere there´s Jayne/River/Kaylee fics made my day.

(And let me add that I love metaquotes, not only because it´s like the news, only funny and about stuff I´m actually interested in, but because it literally makes me LOL**. And that is a very rare and precious gift.)

There´s this meme going on about which fictional characters you´d love to punch. [livejournal.com profile] patsyrant voices what K and I´ve been thinking all these years:

Louis from INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE )

I realize I haven´t really talked about life on the other side of the pond. Letsee... We´re practically drowning thanks to a week of rain, the ceilings dripping in the kitchen, people stop and drink coffee all the time (which stopped being a good thing after a while), baskets in the supermarket are really trolleys (*curses years as a student lugging around heavy basket*), people smoke a hell of a lot more (and it´s not illigal to do so in public closed places till January) and all the streets are old.

I haven´t been out much, have I?

Oh, one last thing. I´ve been writing a fanfic based on The Planet of the Apes, Burton-version, since it came out (2001). It´s nowhere near finished, and I´ve cringed at many a chapter and said, "Total rewrite, this one". *But* I´ve finally finished a Chapter. And now all I have to do is fill in a bunch of gaps, totall fix a "But he can´t do that now...or possibly ever...but he has to" situation, and rewrite everything I wrote in first-year.

At least NaNoWriMo´s have a deadline. This thing just never *dies*.
(Plus, there´s the whole, "Not mine" aura on everything in my fic. Sigh.)

* "a knot of self-indulgent lunacy" Kudos to this site. Yes, I´ll be doing this often.

** An example of both:
bbcnewsworld says "A live, adult giant squid is captured on film in the depths of the Pacific ocean for the first time."
[livejournal.com profile] groovemerchant responds with: "Our dark Lord awakens!"
