bending_sickle: (Fuck this shit)
I'm a bit better today, but the past few days have been pretty shitty in the emotional department, all Social Isolation Monkey and Random Crying and Anxiety and Extreme Boredom. Seriously, I've been going crazy.

I've been sunbathing, watching Firefly, and editing old unfinished stories for the anthology I'm working on for my ex-supervisor. Not much else happening apart from the, y'know, mental meltdown.

Oh, and I've petted some cats. That was nice.

Nano: I'm nowhere near the scene, but when I get to it, I had the most brilliant idea of flashing back to Steven while Icarus bleeds out all over the backseat. *pets brain* And to set that up, a happy flashback when all three are getting in the car. Yesh, juxtapose the happy with the omgnoooooo, tha'sh good.

And and and omg because Icarus can't heal permanently, that's why he gets a drug addiction and- *screeching halt* and totally doesn't turn into Future!Castiel, nope, not at all. *sigh* Maybe.

Why can't I be writing that scene yet? Stupid long interview scene. Ic', be less cryptic or more urgent!

Nano, Later: Okay, it's nearly killed me, but I'm all caught up (after 2381 words omg) and then some (by all of 112 words, but hey). The never-ending questioning with tight-lipped Icarus is finally fucking over. Gaaaaah, that was painful. And next? Because I couldn't get Ic' to convince the dashing trio to leave with him for no-one-knows-where? He's going to stand outside and attract zombies. If the mountain won't come to Mohammed, yo. Now they'll have to go out (even though Chip's all, "no stupid heroics!") and then it's road trip again! And flashbacks, yay!

Have been fiddling with Photoshop again, and present you with Before and Afters. All made using some of [livejournal.com profile] awmpdotnet's tutorial, except the Ajedrez/Sands (#7 and 10) which used [livejournal.com profile] i_have_no_mind's tutorial, both found via [livejournal.com profile] icon_tutorial. Original crops are given below the fancified icon (though I should hope you can tell which is which).

Neil Gaiman links to two pages of "a sixty-three page eighteenth century novel in the grand manner about a waltzing mouse", now replubished, by Noel Langley. In another post, he waxes hilarious about a new feature on www.neilgaiman.com. Prepare to be amazed and confounded and see why I love Neil. Then read the LJ comments, for there be hilarious reports on the wonders of the "mystical and oracular ball of elightenment".

You only need to stare at a piece of blank paper until a drop of blood forms on your forehead.*

Yesterday was Babysitting Day (still supervised by the mother, as is next weeks'). I actually felt way more relaxed with the kids. So things are looking up.

Last night I reread snippets of my fics. It's bloody shamefull that I haven't written anything in months. Even worse that I have so many half-done (and half-baked) fics. I'm actually quite pleased with some snippets.

So I've promised myself to definately make the effort to write something.

Although I might be tempted to read instead. NeonDaisies is amazing in creating a realistic depiction of a psychiatrist's efforts to bring Morton Rainey (Secret Window) out of near-catatonia in Fractured Secrets. Highly recommended if you're into mental institution stories. (I've read a few non-fiction ones myself, like I Never Promised You a Rose Garden and The Three Faces of Eve.) I'm looking forward to reading her other fics.

Btw, currently reading Vassanji's The In-Between World of Vikram Lall, which is not my usual style. Click for Review

Another thing I've promised myself this weekend (other than a trip to the pool if I'm not dead) is to work on the applications. I have them all printed, except for Amsterdam's preliminary application form (internet-only), but I've got all the info down so I can write a letter of motivation.

Ye gods, I have to start getting things together for my prof's to write letters of rec. (Which means, I will have to grovel. Where's me grovelling pants?)

I'm still no closer to knowing whether Ecology beats Envir. and Resource Management. I'm going to call Maria, a friend of Ma's, who's in a university, to ask for feedback. (Ma' send Bro my email where I bemoan the lack of an advisor, or, failing that, a brother who calls. The not-so-subtle-hint has failed.)

As for the rest of my existence: still cold, still sick.

There was a lot to do at the office today, so am a bit on the "can't feel my arms" side of tired. I'll be going to my uncles'** for the weekend tomorrow, it being Gran's b-day. (Uncles are being extra incomunicative of late, not talking to me when I call.) So I'll be brief. (Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to write to people and universities.)

Here's me with my measly batch of icons From Hell. (The amusement of writing statements with that title in it will never cease.)

Live Journal is such a wonderful place. There´s [livejournal.com profile] icon_tutorial for all your icon needs (with excellent links on the Memories), these random Tutorials: Tutorial 1, Tutorial 2, Tutorial 3, Tutorial 4, Tutorial 5, Tutorial 6 and Tutorial 7.

Then there´s the wonderful FREE program GIMP, which has this chat tutorial thingy besides a bunch or articles in [livejournal.com profile] icon_tutorial.

Then there´s screencaps and the Firefly-centric site.

And my brother sent me a link to Inkspace which is, from what I gather, a program for drawing stuff, though it can also make banners and icons.

...I never woulda thought I´d be interested in computer programs. Granted, they´re artsy and make pretty things.

And I only want them because I´m a little fangirl*. :)

And because I could make so many sexy, sexy icons. *lick*

Saw documentary of lioness that adopted various oryx calves, the first one for 16 days before it was killed by a by-passing lion. Here is an article.

Let me say "squee" in honour of finding that Alan Tudyk did the voice for the Dodo in Ice Age. How adorable is that?

Nathan Fillion was apparently in Dracula 2000 and I have absolutely no recolection of the fact.

And apparently *everyone* was in Saving Private Ryan.
By everyone I mean NFillion, VDiesel, GRibissi, PGiamatti...

...Does the fact that Morena Baccarin is the daughter of someone called Vera have anything to do with there being a mighty gun in Firefly called Vera?

If I made videos, Johnny Cash´s "Don´t take your guns to town" wouldn´t be the first contender, but it would be interesting to make for Jaynestown. Or maybe I´m just tired.

Oh, and...woot!, icon tutorial!
Now I just need the actual, you know, programs.

PS: You know how you´re copy-pasting stuff to a draft email, and then you get an error message about how Explorer has to close?
The appropriate response, obviously, is "AAAaaarGggHhh!!!"
