Ah, there's nothing quite like waking up to an apathy cocktail shaken with a dash of terror. I have a shitload of articles but no idea what to do with them. I don't think they quite answer the whole "factors explaining changes in dispersal". Thus the terror: I don't know what I'm doing or where this is going. It's noon, and guess who's just opened yet another scholar.google?

In other news, Ashes to Ashes, sequel to Life on Mars, premiered in the UK and apparently, it was awesome, lack of John Simm regardless. There's always the Guv'. (Check out [livejournal.com profile] 45eugenia's squee.)

ETA: Here, watch Terminus:

After inadvertently offending a strange entity that accosts him on his way to work, a 1970s businessman quickly finds himself in the midst if a bizarre predicament.
What follows is a rapid descent into madness, a journey both eerie and darkly humorous. The exact nature of the businessman's tormentor is purposefully ambiguous, lending itself to a variety of interpretations.
Is "Terminus" a surreal critique of human alienation in the modern urban environment? or is the protagonist's struggle an internal one, his mysterious stalker a manifestation of his repressed subconscious mind?
Either way, "Terminus"'s innovative visual effects and distinctively vintage atmosphere make it a highly engrossing experience.

Am I hallucinating or is that a Montreal metro? It is, isn't it? Excuse me, there's something in my eye...

ETA2: God help me, but I miss Montreal.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets proposes a screened-comment-poll for Valentines: "What one fictional character (of any gender) would you most want to spend your Valentine's Day with? The hot one? The nice one? The one who could take you to the most exciting fictional world? The one that would make all your friends jealous? The one that would rip your head off and spit on your body because you're... into that? There are a ton of possible reasons, don't feel like you have to pick certain characters or fandoms just because they're popular!" Honestly? I can't decide. (If this were just about sex, I'd have my choices narrowed down, but it's not.)

What kind of mess is this supposed to mean: Abstr. Proc. Joint Conf. Am. Assoc. Zoo Vet., Wildl. Dis. Assoc., Am. Assoc. Wildl. Vet. East Lansing, Michigan. Wtf, I ask you, wtf. (Yes, I know what the abbreviations mean, but good grief, that's a horrible title.)

I really, really hate that the good, basic articles I want aren't online. I've got a 1996 article, and those online only start from 1997. Let's not even talk about the 1970's ones. Argh!

Also, am in some serious pain. Cramps suck, yo.

ETA 3:17 pm: Still in fucking serious pain here. Yay nausea. I have to go to Leiden. I'd rather curl up on the bathroom floor and alternatively curse and impore deities. Three advils (my grand total of painkiller amunition), and, as always, they do nothing.

I've been fiddling around with photoshop and have 1.5 of the covers for a mix I've concocted for airport lounges and travel. Trouble is, the pretty pictures need a tracklist, and so far, I've got just a smattering. So, readerfolk, if you have any songs related to airplanes, travel, waiting, leaving, arriving, etc., give 'em up. I'm serious, help me out here.

In other news, today's been a waste. Read more... )

Now, I have pancakes and House to look forward to. I'm on chapter 39 of Kushiel's Chosen. There's still angst of the star-crossed lover variety (whoot!) and still intrigue (which I can't actually follow for the most part).

ETA: Meme: Which Discworld character are you? )
