Today's work on the thesis was very much like banging my head against a wall. Progress is measurable only in snail, slug, sloth or plant communities. Every few seconds I had to go bother the prof who's holding my hand through the whole Access and ArcGIS learning experience, and to make matters more aggravating, the program was fond of giving me the finger (which in program speak is "I can't find the tools you just installed!" or "Oop! Memory error! We gotta shut down the program!" or "Aha! I have tricked you with my multiple tabs!"). Woe.

In other news, I bought makeup. Not for any noraml reason, but rather for Halloween. You know, to get dressed up although I have nowhere to go dressed up, or anyone to go with. (Partly because I fail and haven't called anyone. Okay, that's probably a big reason.) Also I am not lame enough to go about my day dressed up, October 31st notwithstanding. Items include white water-based theatrical thingy (for that "Look! I'm dead!" look), shimmery eyeshadow (because I will both embrace and mock Twilight by fucking sparkling), a kohl stick (apparently necessary for "the goth look") and red lipstick (the kind of red I'd call "Harlot"), which is actually making me squee on general terms because I've never had red lipstick. Add plastic canines, and you've got my usual Halloween constume. (Except for last year, where I was a gypsy, because I couldn't whip up anything else.)

That was totally weird, yo. In the mornings, I usually make myself one cup of coffee with the wonderful little machine, and have gotten into the habit of making a second cup with the same coffee pad, for later consumption. Now, having only one...thingy, wossname...in the fridge, and it being quite stock full, I often put the mug in my thingy-wossname of the cupboard. Then I just microwave the bugger at night. (De-caf is lovely.) So my roommate stoday asked me what the hell was in my mug in my cupboard wossname. Then the two of them just couldn't understand why I would keep a mug of coffee. They were complete flummoxed. I mean, how is this different from the American custom of brewing a massive jug of coffee and keeping the thing heated?

Got my Hip Hop/Streedance comments, as this was our last day. Basically, I was alight. I need to descipher a bit of Dutch to see where I did Good, Mediocre and Excellent. One thing she did say, though, was to stand straight. Ah, the "I Suck" Slouch, how you fail me. Her suggestions? Try Beginners again, put a bit more "Oompf" into my moves and I'll soon work into my own style. Still, awesome.

Oh, Mom called, so we Skyped. What do you mean, you skyped?!? And other Mom-isms. )

I am so motherfucking tired of these motherfucking coughs in my motherfucking chest! /Samuel L. "Motherfucker" Jackson. Seriously, physically tired of coughing. Tired, tired, tired of this shit. /Chris Rock. *has been coughing constantly for the past hour*

Speaking of, a few weekends ago, after showig Midnight to Elisa - who found it very frustrating because the characters were being idiots - I showed her Eddie Izzard. She liked him. Le squee. (Also tried showing The Mighty Boosh, but it's a bit hard to get a clip that condenses what the Boosh is without condensing it so far into "This is crack. Crack-dipped crack with crack!sprinkles."

Finished More than Life yesterday (and it was good). Should refrain from starting Inconvenient, because too much of a good thing can be bad for the ol' eyeballs. (As in, try not to stare at the computer screen for hours and hours.) In fact, might want to get serious with The In-Between World of Vikram Lall, particularly since I'm in the third and last section.

My fanism for Firefly seems to be waneing, though I'll try to catch up on these few series I'm lagging behind:

I seem to be pretty loyal to my fandoms, even for extended periods of time, but then the steam runs out and I move on. (There is, of course, the ocasional fling "just for old times sake".) Yet in every fandom, I find a one, occasionally two, authors who completely represent the utter best of the fandom, whose stories are the "creme de la creme", so far as my searching has provided. (I also seem to be pretty loyal to certain characters in each fandom, which is not surprising.)

Further down that road. )
