...a notion she will discover soon enought is better in the imagined ideal than in reality.*

*waves* I'm not dead! I'm also all caught up on my flist - except for today's and [livejournal.com profile] capn_mactastic's epic post, which I'm staring at right now.

So, a brief recap, because I'm all LotD-outed. I got to Toronto last Sunday, got new contacts and hit 'em up for new glasses on Monday, saw [livejournal.com profile] blizzardcake and [livejournal.com profile] katarinagram on Tuesday, walked the cemetary route with Mom on Wednesday, watched Gundam with [livejournal.com profile] lienne on Thursday and flew off to Chicago on Friday. Occasionally had to remind self that I'd wanted to go home. May not have worked at times.

Once in Obamaland, I snuggled my bro and went out with his girlfriend, her sister and her friend to a club called Transit, where I actually Did Stuff**. *eyebrow waggle* I danced, too, which was cool.

Then Sunday we had the most delicious hot dogs EVER at Hot Doug's and hung out at the airport 'cause girlfriend's sister's plane was 3 hours delayed.

Monday and Tuesday were spent haunting State St. and Michigan Ave. respectively, browsing through the most god-awful clothes in search for that one spectacular find. (Who doesn't have a party dress for $15? Or an awesome top for $5?) Got my present-shopping finished with, too.

I also spent a good long while talking to bro's girlfriend about important stuff and random stuff and it was really, really nice. And I've realized I like my brother better when he's with other people. Also, while happy to see him happy, feel a bit sad seeing him with Girlfriend because he used to be all friendly and playful with me when we were wee and we've lost that. He's actually said to Girlfriend that he doesn't know why he's so mean to me. Well, at least he knows. But no, in general he's been pretty good this visit. I'm still getting hugs, which is awesome.

Today I read chapter 1 of Obama's Dreams of My Father (*squee*) and spent an hour at the post office, chatting a bit with a lady who works in the law department of a unviersity and is a professional pianist, who's husband or father is "one of the best bassists in Chicago", so I felt pretty special. (She was, however, very vocal and bitter about the slowness of the line, which is Not Cool.) Postcard sent, I skipped over to Ribs 'n Bibs for that once-a-year-if-I'm-lucky dish of BBQ only to find it closed with no warning or excuse. So the three of us went off to a Korean place instead. Then I watched last week's Heroes on the 'net, because I can actually do that while in the states. Awesome.

And that brings us up to now. :)

Spent evening with Elisa, first chatting over coffee the watching series. Showed her Supernatural's 4x06 Yellow Fever, which she loved. We also discussed the aesthetics of Jensen Ackles and how, yes, he's quite a sight, but also a very all-American-jock sight, which sort of runs against every fiber of our being. It's like my liking Bones' Booth or Vin Diesel: I'll be sitting there, drooling, wondering what the hell is wrong with my hormones. Totally not my type, and yet...guh.

Then we watched True Blood 1x01-03, and she's hooked, after having laughed at the concept. Cliffhangers are made of evil, but make for addictive viewing, and yes, the opening titles are made of complete and utter rocking-out win. Tara scared her a bit at first, but after her Moment of Awesome, Elisa was won over. Rene got instant love thanks to his arm-twisting feats. Throughout the viewing we put on Generic Southern Accents. She thinks mine rules. \o/

And I'll have to get her to watch Reservoir Dogs, 'cause she didn't even know it existed. This must be rectified asap.

About the rest of my day, morning was spent on the internet and the afternoon was spent being hungry in a supermarket and not finding anything appetizing and thus not buying anything but a can of beans, cereal and broccoli.

Instructions: Fill this in ten times for ten different people (they don't have to be on lj): "I want to [have/give/etc. something] so [purpose here]." For example: I want to have a flower so I can put it in your hair. Then tag five people.

*grumble ten people grumble* Omg, I can't remember people anymore...

1. I want to give a brownie party so you can have a brownie party.
2. I want to take you to Japan so we can rock out and be wierd tourists.
3. I want to take you to New Orleans on Mardi Gras for research for the hell of it.
4. I want to have you talk to me honestly so I can know who you've become at least as well as your friends.
5. I want to hear that you've finally made some friends so you won't be so bitterly miserable and alone.
6. I want to tell you that I really do love you so that you'll not think that I've stopped.
7.
8.
9.
10.

Gorramit, I have no wants. Or people. *flail* I've lost touch with too many folk and they're all too far away anyway. Deceptively hard and depressing meme is deceptively hard and depressing! This is hard to say out loud repeatedly!

People can tag themselves. *frustrated pout*

This is how far I've read on [livejournal.com profile] get_medieval's comic. Just sayin'.
[livejournal.com profile] jadwin's Multifandom Fic: Hitchhiking is something I've already linked to. Relinking because I'm a silly bugger who doesn't have enough time or concentration to read fic, despite wanting to. Likewise with BtVS/AtS Fic: A Stitch in Time: I've been on Chapter 4 for weeks now :( but it's good fic!

Quote of the Day: Douglas Adams, Last Chance to See (1991)
In which case, there may be some part of our mind that, when confronted with a void, expects to be able to leap out into it and even urges us to do so. So what you end up with is a conflict between a primitive, atavistic part of your mind which is saying "Jump!" and the more modern, rational part of your mind which is saying, "For Christ's sake, don't!" In fact, vertigo is explained by some not as the fear of falling, but as the temptation to jump!

While I don't have vertigo per se, I do gt the feeling that I might, if I'm not careful, jump or worse, get pushed over by the wind. Especially the wind. (I also dislike - read: get freaked out by) the whole "wind roaring in your ears" aspect of velocity, due to that rather traumatic this-horse-won't-bloody-stop experience. With a repeat the following week. When you have time to seriously consider throwing yourself off the horse when it's on its umpteenth lap at light-speed, you know it's not a good day.)
