Meme: 30-Day Original Story Development Challenge, via Tacoface

Here is a 30 day original story development challenge. It can be filled by prose or illustration or comic or even just script, whatever works for you and how you’ll be displaying the setting. Feel free to reveal as much or as little as you want.

Day 1 - A main protagonist, their bio. - Life is made up of a Before and an After. Or at least that's how it is in stories.

In reality, things are not that simple. There's not just one Before, one after, one single defining moment when the stone is thrown into the water and after that it's nothing but ripples. Instead, there are many moments, little bends in the road, sharp twists and even sharper turns. Although numerous, these moments of change are not, of course, all equal in size.

Like everyone else, Chip had small Befores and Afters. Before he lost a tooth at age seven with his legs hanging in the air high up in the ferris wheel. After he punched Ryan in the stomach for all the times he didn't.

There were bigger ones. After he got his first job selling soft ice cream at the mall. Before he decided to go to college. After he kissed Jake.

Then there were the really big ones, those deserving the capital letters. After Mom died. Before he told his father. After he met Steve.

Then there were the Befores and Afters that split his life into pieces. Before the world ended. After Steve died. Before the angel.

I've been to the movies to see the new POTC (which movie didn't I watch that's come out this year SRSLY) but I did keep thinking, "when is this ooooover so I can go home dammit" so yeah. Johnny Depp was lovely, of course, but IMO, it wasn't worth its ten euros. I don't even remember the ~*plot*~ anymore :|

Seriously though, I'm just saying – if there was anyone to make this work and transform even poorly fleshed-out characters into something magnificent, I imagine it would be you. ♥

I never liked how Charles was always like, "Muahaha, I know better. My morality beats yours! You just need to CALM THE FUCK DOWN" while Eric's all, "THE TORTURE THE NAZIS THE CONCENTRATION CAMP THE HORROR MY MOTHER" and apparently Charles didn't really think that should affect Eric all that much, which o.0? - Yeah, that :/ I think I might have already mentioned somewhere that Erik is my favourite, but even so, I felt like there was much too little focus on what he's had to go through. And while I mostly try to stay faaar away from the comic canon – or at least its wiki page – because the original Magneto and Professor X creep the hell out of me and CANNOT UNSEE and all – I've read that not only has Erik been to Auschwitz, but was forced into being part of the so-called Sonderkommando as well, which, holy crap, is some fucked-up shit right there, to say the least. So, knowing all this, the portrayal of Erik in First Class was downright vanilla. Although, to be honest, even without this kind of knowledge, I was already surprised Erik actually stayed/listened/reached out to Charles/participated. I'd've told Charles to fuck off. XD

Still, McAvoy and Fassbender have brought the roooomance with the lingering looks and casual, ahem, touches, and that's what made my little shlashy fangirl heart beat harder, anyway. ♥

And you know what was really distracting? I couldn't see Charles as anywhere near Eric's age, and instead saw him as like Raven's age (which he totally is) and the other wee X-Men, so it was doubly hard to see Charles be all superior to Eric's manpain and have Charles be all "Yp, I'm Professor X and I'm going to guide you young things on your spirit quest". – Again, I can't help but agree. Charles is said to have graduated Harvard at sixteen (why, hello, there, Charles-is-actually-a-genius!kink,-not-that-anyone-notices), in the movie we see him working on his dissertation/becoming a professor. Now, I don't have any kind of experience with these kinds of things, but how long would this take? If you're a genius. One year? Two years? Three? Even if he spent some years doing absolutely nothing regarding his academic career, he'd be twenty-five in this movie, tops. Raven is a bit younger than him (that's what I've read, anyway), so maybe she's twenty-one, twenty-two. Uhhh? I buy the whole "I shall be your mentor because I totally know best" shtick only with the (fanon)-addendum that, because for Charles' badass Omega mutant powers, he couldn't do anything but age and grow up craaazy fast and be, like, from early age, a fifty-year old in a twelve-year body. Hooowever, there was no indication of anything like that in the movie whatsoever, so it's another hole to be filled in with fangirl imagination.

And Hank, WHAT THE FUCK with forcing Raven to join you in your suicide pact let's-be-normal-looking pact? – Yeees, I went all, "NEIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!" at that part. (*SNORFLES* I feel so bad but I snickered through the whole young-Erik-destroys-shit!scene, after his mother dies. While being very dramatic. NEIIIIIIIIIIIN! XD) Seriously, though, with this scene - I found it so odd that young!Erik didn't even…look or check on his mother…or whatever. I get what they were trying to do, ~introduction and showing off his powers and all, but. That seemed so weird to me. :/

I had a thought. And it made me go 0.0 and flail. The only characters who were sexualized in the movie were women. And all the women were evil and sexualized (oh hai boobs! oh hai she's a stripped! oh hai seduction!) except for Eric's mom (WOMEN IN REFRIGERATORS ARGH) and the CIA chick who was ~*good*~ and therefore got a chaste kiss and fucking mind-wiped. And then the men in the room go all, "ugh" and her boss says something along the lines of, "and that's why women shouldn't be allowed in the CIA". These girls and their ~*feelings*~, seriously.

RAVEN/ERIK JUST DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT. - Maybe not the age thing, then, but Eric is worlds apart from Raven and seems to see her as a thing - a mutant thing, an awesome blue thing, a thing to teach about how awesome being a mutant is, but a thing nonetheless. Even when he was teaching her how to be strong and out and proud, I never felt like he was doing it for her benefit, but as a sort of "ooh, look, mutant. Let me share my morals!" I'm probably not explaining it well. Basically, I never felt he connected with her as a person, but saw her just as "that blue mutant". Also, her seduction scene in the bed with the "do you like me better now that I look a bit older" was eeeeeek.

Y'know, Eric treats Raven as a thing in the previous movies too, even though she's obviously well-rooted in her "hero-worship-slash-crushing-madly-slash-in-love-slash-fucked-up-father-figure" thing. CHARLES, YOU FAIL AS A BROTHER. Ugh. There's this line from Firefly that goes something like, "I don't respect your job. He doesn't respect you" and I think that's sort of the same thing that's going on with Eric and Charles regarding Raven, in that they make a distinction in what they see when they see her. One sees a mutant, one sees a girl (but not the mutantness).
