So Long and Thanks for all the Fish
May. 9th, 2005 06:39 pm...is also a new radio play that you can listen to on BBC's Listen Again page. Rumours have it that it aired May 3 and is available starting the Thursday after, so it may be there already. Am confused.
Got an icon! From Chosen Two.
Also changed the LJ title, using a line from Marianne Moore's "Poetry", which fully goes: "imaginary gardens with real toads in them".
My user name, btw, is from Shakespears' Sonnet 116 ("Let me not to the marriage of true minds") which I was made to memorize and haven't forgotten. I always loved the sounds of this line: "love's not time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks within his bending sickle's compass come".
Of course, I wanted to be "anaesthesia", because I must agree with Neil (in Neverwhere) that it's a great name. It was taken, of course, so I tried "gladly_beyond" from EECumming's "somewhere i have never travelled", the only poem so far to bring me to tears, but that too was taken.
So far, am pleased with the site. Next up: friends list and more icons!

Rejects and plans
May. 5th, 2005 10:57 amI just got an email from Bristol, saying how they were really sorry and distressed and it was a really terrible thing etc. but alas, they didn't want me within 5 feet of their univeristy. While being rejected isn't cool in any case, I wasn't planning on going there anyway because it's a) a 2-year program and b) focused on British organisms. But still.
After this I'm going to surf around, maybe even on the ever-useless CAPS page, to figure out how to make a decent resume for my TESL course. It's slightly depressing that after 4 years of undergraduate, my hopes of employment rest on my taking yet another course on how to teach English. Have I just totally wasted 4 years here? With the acceptance letter, universities should also give a warning letter, on red paper, saying something like: "This degree will have no benefits in the employment industry. We just want your money and youthful energy, and will suck you dry of both." Am not bitter.
I also want to learn how to make links on this journal, so I can point to better blogs than these, and my most favorite webpages. And now that I remember, there's two message boards I have to check up on. Not that the new BtVS Season 8 ep will be up yet, but there may be some new interesting comments. Have I mentioned I love the internet? And the fans and fics you can find through it?
Ok, I'll do my research and then fiddle around with this some more.
PS: I can't believe I'm going to spend my summer in courses and relearning German. [insert wail of terror/exhaustion here]

Am currently wading through all this technical stuff, trying to get my journal to look decent. All that I'm liking so far is the penguin. Sigh. And I've seen such nice layouts too... Hopefully I'll actually use this (I've got a paper dairy, which is much prettier than this one). I've got some ideas for lists and such, but will have to investigate how to do that lj-cut thingy.
As for real life, it's evil and quite boring. Don't expect me to entertain much.
And because I can't help myself, let me say that I read Reaper Man (and *how* do I underline things, exactly?) by PTerry and, though it's a laugh throughout (except a bit at the end where I'm breezing through the wizard bits), I actually teared up in two bits. I can't recall off the top of my head the 2nd one, but the 1st is pg. 145-6, where Death's talking to Miss Flitwork and explains how he really is going to die.
Let's post this and see what happens.
