I'm trying to catch up on my To Watch folder, which is just about exploding. I've got things there that I've been meaning to watch since October. *sigh*
I've also got 2 out of 4 fanmixes all done except for the final file formatting. As for the other two, one just needs the songs and the other one (now two volumes) has the songs selected and in a suggested order. So close. I'm listening to one of the mixes now and the sense of accomplishment if very welcomed.
Human Target 2x09 - Imbroglio
Human Target 2x10 - Cool Hand Guerrero
* Guerrero, "A Problem Like Maria", Human Target

Human Target 2x09 - Imbroglio
- Show! You're still Show! The previous episodes of Human Target finally being Human Targety wasn't a fluke1 Oh, rejoice!
- ...squee? Guerrero being all twitterpated with Ilsa's sister-in-law was adorable. You can almost forget the whole "assasin (and then some)" part of him. Also? He's damn smooth. That elevator scene at the end? \o/
- I love Ilsa's dress. This is a shallow point, I know, but it was truly a goregous dress. I love how the writers are always going, "She's rich! She goes to events! PRETTY DRESSES!" Seriously, they dress Ilsa up gorgeously so often.
- How amused am I that for the second time they just write Ames out with the flimsiest of excuses? "Oh, she had to cope." "She called in sick (but wasn't)." Very. Highly, even. But seriously, she hasn't fit into the show so far.
- Carlo Rota! Oh hai! *flaaaaaails* I haven't seen you since Nikita and so missed your dulcet English acce- What?. Russian. You're Russian. Why are you using a Russian accent? How many evil Russians have we had already on this show? Season 1 had the Evil Russian Embassy, Season 2 had the Evil Russian Prison and now this, the Evil Russian Brothers. Seriously, Show, let it go. The world is made up of more than Russia and Mexicanamaruguay, that non-existing Spanish-speaking country "somewhere south of the US" you keep trying to pretend is Mexico or Panama or Uruguay or whatever. We are not convinced.
- No photographs of the late Mr Pucci? Seriously? Sister-in-law thinks Ilsa's lost sight of her husband's mission because she doesn't have pictures of him in the office? So what you're saying is that if she doesn't make an outward and public showing of her grief, then she's not herself grieving and carrying out her husband's wishes and so forth. Fuck you, lady. If my husband died, I wouldn't want him staring at me at the office. I'd keep his pictures at home where I could soften the blow with booze. And I probably wouldn't even keep them out all the time, either.
- Chance being all grumpy about Ilsa wanting to save him from Iminent Death, being instead all, "I don't need your help! I'm the operative!" was amusing. Although, newsflash, Chance, this is the Operative, not you. You're a man in dire need of assistance. An exceptionally sexy man when wet - and honestly, how can I say no to the explosive maths of "man inna suit" and "man who's wet"? Ngh. Also, I kind of loved his hair when it was all wet and plastered. I am curious, however, as to why he wasn't dripping for the rest of the episode. Did he stand under the hand dryer in the bathroom for ages?
- The chandelier. Called it. They couldn't have been more Chekhov's Gun about it.
- Guerrero really loved shaking the rifle or whatever it was at Ilsa and her sister-in-law. Adorable.
Human Target 2x10 - Cool Hand Guerrero
- Show! You just keep on getting better! Why are we getting news of your imminent death now, right when you're back on Hilariously Awesome Mode?
- I was very, very disappointed that Guerrero never mentioned again how he hated prisons, or said why. Continuity, not so hot. (Guerrero doing chin-ups? Hot.)
- Continuity was smokin' however, with the reveal of the "little one". And thank all the gods it wasn't Ames. I was half-expecting her to say that the photo was of her, but no. Phew!
- Ames is unrealistically fast opening locks. Seriously unrealistically.
- I loved how the whole team realized they basically knew nothing about Guerrero. (Except for Chance, obviously.) "We know he wears glasses." \o/
- I don't buy the use of "El Do" as the combination lock. Come on, how hard is it to use four numbers that aren't significant or in code? I do it and I'm not a paranoid hitman supergenius! Ugh.
- I loved all the fight scenes. I loved the episode. I am the happiest little thing ever over this show right now it's ridiculous.
- WE SAW GUERRERO'S HOUSE. AND THE LITTLE ONE. OMG BACKSTORY AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND SQUEE.
- ETA: The fight and confrontation between Chance and Guerrero was possibly everything I could've hoped it to be. It didn't have the roundhouse kick from Season One's fight, but there was a lot of arm-wrenching and, oh yeah, emotional interaction. \o/ Although I can't believe that this season's magic words, "Trust me," (as pointed out by the
wptjeh podcast) actually worked on Guerrero. I'm going to need a lot of character-study fic for that scene and its
implications.

Date: 2011-01-15 11:42 am (UTC)Suffering. ;p I pulled up some fanfiction (and from some of my favourite authors, too!) and will be going through it now, and otherwise decided to watch the fail that is House's season 7, because apparently I just can't stay away no matter how hard I try. ;p
Went to see Morning Glory with my cousin yesterday, and while it wasn't anything spectacular, I could help but like the movie a bit anyway, possibly because it is designed to make every single girl in this universe self-insert ad infinitum. :'D And Cathy and I had agreed we wouldn't go to see any shitty movies this year just because we had nothing better to do. Oh dear. ;p
Do you have any plans for this weekend?

Date: 2011-01-15 04:19 pm (UTC)You know, you could go watch shitty movies on purpose with the aim of making fun of them. Although possibly this is more of a "rent at home" situation, so you can be as loud and lewd as you want (and invole alcohol or chocolate and so forth). Trust me, ripping a bad movie apart with jokes is fun.
This weekend - or well, what's left of it because omg why is it dark already - has no plans (apart from the fanmix). I watched Fantastic Mr Fox (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2igjYFojUo) which was nice but I couldn't help being disappointed because FMF was my all-time "wee childhood stage" favorite book of all time and I could barely recognize the book and characters and they took out the drunk singing about apple cider! So wrong. However, Mr Fox's son was absolutely adorable, so yay, and it really was a good enough movie.

Date: 2011-01-15 06:51 pm (UTC)Yeah, I love mocking shitty movies, see: Twilight 2. Although I admit I had to stop after 20 minutes, my friend and I just weren't hardcore enough to get through it. And I still can't believe there are real people in this world taking this whole Twilight thing seriously. :'D
Oooh, Fantastic Mr Fox looks wonderful! *makes a mental note to watch it sometime soon*
On a completely unrelated note, Sickleee, it's so cold over here, especially since curiously, the heater hasn't been working in the whole house today and we haven't got any warm water, either. :| *huddles into blanket*

Date: 2011-01-15 08:50 pm (UTC)As for mocking films, this is the best thing ever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_RiffTrax). I've never heard their tracks, but I've heard them recommended a lot. I think if I ever buckle down and watch Twilight (for science!), I'll need their Rifftrack.
*snuggles you warm* Sorry about the cold sneaking into your house. Have tea and cookies! (Not that you'd need an excuse, but tea makes everything better and warmer.) ♥

Date: 2011-01-18 07:00 pm (UTC)How is it that I can't stand to read anything remotely angsty when it comes to fanfiction? I'm like, I'M NOT READING THIS IF THERE'S NO HALFWAY HAPPY RESOLUTION IDEK HOW GOOD THIS IS TALK TO THE HAND, but am a total sucker for total mind-fuckery when it comes to books? MAKE SENSE, BRAIN. :|
Seems like today was Communication Day for everyone all around! Win! \o/

Date: 2011-01-18 07:16 pm (UTC)I'm generally pretty pro-angst in both fic and fiction. I think I balk at the angst WHEN THE MAIN CHARACTER OF THE WHOLE WORK DIES COVERED IN WOE AND ANGST. I'd be fine if everone else died, but the main character, whose voice has been in my head for all that time? Yeah, not cool.
Plus, it was all so futile and hopeless and why won't anyone think of the poor beetle! If my brother turned into a giant beetle, I'd ride on his carapace as he scampered along the ceiling because that would be damn cool.
So, if Kafka always so emo? With stories where nothing ever gets better? Because the sister "blossoming" and becoming elegible for marriage is totally not a happy ending. Especially when they're all, "Oh noes, we has no monies! Weesa gonna starve! All that beetle's fault, it is!" (because they're apparently the bastard children of Jar Jar Binks and Yoda and woah mental image no no no) and then "Oh, beetle's dead. Apparently we're actually rich and life is full of unicorns and sparkles. Wee!"

Date: 2011-01-18 09:34 pm (UTC)I AGREE FOREVER, ALSO I AM PERVING ON THIS MAN SO DAMN MUCH I AM STARTING TO FEEL KIND OF CREEPED OUT BY MYSELF BUT NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW, RIGHT? AND ANYWAY, I BLAME YOU FOR EVERYTHING SO IT'S ALL GOOD. >:D
Kafka is the epitome of emo! Delicious, delicious emo. Thing is, he never even meant to have his novels, journals, letters etc published; he originally instructed his friend Max Brod to burn his work after his death, but Brod thought it too valuable to destroy. And while friendship-wise this may be kind of a dastardly thing to do, it leaves us with works like Metamorphosis or The Trial, which is probably his most acclaimed novel and, oh, has about nine valid angles of interpretation (religious, historical, auto-biographical, philosophical, ...). An anecdote tells that Kafka liked to read out from his works to his intellectual-circle-friends, ask them what they thought it meant, and then proceed to laugh at their answers in sadistic delight. :'D Kafka wrote so he could deal with Shit Going Down, like his family life, especially the tyrannic father he feared all his life (--> Metamorphosis), or his inability to form any kind of meaningful bond with a woman, or... Kafka had omgISSUES. Which makes him immensely interesting. Bust mostly the Dystopian, surrealist, quietly-threatening feel of his novels makes my little heart beat faster~~ ♥ I mean, the guy has gotten his own adjective (Kafkaesque) because his style just can't be sufficiently described with any of the existing. *__* (OH FOR... MAYBE I SHOULD'VE JUST CALLED THIS COMMENT INCOHERENT YET EMBARRASSINGLY SINCERE ODE TO KAFKA AND BE DONE WITH IT.)

Date: 2011-01-18 09:57 pm (UTC)the Dystopian, surrealist, quietly-threatening feel of his novels - Okay, I'm sold. I definitely need to read more of his stuff. The Trial is now officially my next audiobook to listen to. (I've got a boatload of the suckers waiting to be listened to, alas.)
Your Ode to Kafka was adorable and well-received, never fear. Author-Squee is awesome ♥
