I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place*

Captives (1994) and a who's who in Doctor Who: I love this movie. I watched it way back in 2006 or 2007 - and if I could find the post I'd link it, alas - and just recently realized that, hey, I'd love to get my grubby hands on it again. So ta-da! I watched it last night instead of going to sleep at a regular hour - "Just a little bit," I promised, "just a scene or two" and then it was near 2 am and I was all a-squee.

I can't find a trailer for it on YouTube - it is from 1994, after all, the time of answering machines and cordless phones with antennae - but I'll give you a brief rundown and fanvid.

Rachel (Julia Ormond) is a dentist recovering from splitting up from her husband who takes up working part-time at the local prison. There she meets Philip (Tim Roth), an inmate who's on his way to finishing his eight-year sentence and is allowed out of prison twice a week for his evening college computer course. Cue sparks flying, air sizzling, and sexual attraction of epic proportions. Add in secrecy, violent inmates, power balances, a star-crossed situation Romeo and Juliet can only wish they'd had and one hot bathroom scene, and you get this.

Whilst watching it last night, I kept squinting and pondering and wracking my brain at a lot of the secondary actors, half-recognizing them. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that I knew them all from Doctor Who (or Torchwood, which is totally the same in my book).

- There's the husband Lenny, played by Peter Capaldi, who was John Frobisher in Torchwood's "Children of Earth".

- There's Colin Salmon, who could read me the phone book all night long, and who played the scary-crazy occasionally-Jamaican inmate and was Dr. Moon in Doctor Who's "Forest of the Dead / Silence in the Library".

- There's the prison-visiting lady played by Annette Badland who was Margaret Blaine / Blon Fel-Fotch Pasameer Day Slitheen in Doctor Who's "Boom Town / World War Three / Aliens of London" (and, coincidently, was also in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, but my mind's gone blissfully amnesiac of that horrid version).

- There was also "Companion" played by Cathy Murphy, whom I do not remember and in fact did not recognize but who was "Mum" in Doctor Who's "Christmas Invasion".

There was also Richard Hawley, whom I should have recognized from Love, Actually, and I totally failed at recognizing Kenny as Mark Strong of such things as Sherlock Holmes, RocknRolla, Stardust and Sunshine. How do I not recognize you, Mark?!?

Also, a lot of those actors have also been on something called Doctors which is either a huge coincidence or further proof that the British acting pool is rather small.
