Life and Times:

The Netherlands - Mom arrived on Thursday evening. We threw out a lot of things (huge bags of clothes, notes, etc.) and packed the rest. A bunch of books and a pair of tennis shoes were sent by land through the mail service for ridiculously cheap prices. I closed a deal with Random Internet Person for the wardrobe for less than 50% of its worth, but the jerk never showed up. The guy who bought my bike complained two weeks later that he couldn't afford all the repairs the bike needed and could I please take it back and refund him, to which I say a) any and all repairs you want to make are unnecessary because the little shit works so just don't do them and stop whining about your budget, b) it's a Dutch bike, and a third-hand one at that: of course it could use repairs, c) seriously?!?!.

On the tourist side, we went to Den Haag and its beach, Scheveningen, ate broodje harrings (raw herring sandwhiches) and gigantic pannenkoeken, went to Amsterdam and its Rijks Museum, and so forth.

Rome - I'm still in the process of finding where to put my stuff, making room, unpacking, trying to make the room mine and not just "that room where I can put my stuff". I've signed up for super-intensive Italian courses (three hours every day, seven days a week, for one month), which was mom's idea. I fear this may sap me dry of energy and leave me unable to job hunt (which hasn't been happening), so feh.

Also, omg I cannot be a week behind in Links of the Day ever again. I might need to cull my reading list... So. Many. Links. *whimper* Oh gods, the tags!


Fandom:

Supernatural - See this excited dog and its foot dance? That was me when I realised that these were gods we were dealing with. I mean, holy shit, y'all, it was American Gods (Wiki, Fan Trailer)! Although Supernatural certainly did not live up to the awesomeness that was that meeting of the gods in my head (or Neil Gaiman's, for that matter, whose images my imagination was stealing). I mean, I love Supernatural, but they sucked at the whole gods thing.

a) Ganesh totally turned into an African elephant of the CGI variety, which was fail, b) Balder wasn't Shadow or awesome, which I can't blame them for, c) Odin wasn't one-eyed and severly lacking in ravens, which was big-ass fail, d) Mercury shouldn've been called Hermes, because I'm a stickler like that, e) I can't recall whether Baron Samedi had an awesome accent, which means he probably didn't and thus there was fail, f) Loki failed to murder Odin and neither of them mentioned it, g) HUMAN SACRIFICES WTF?!?! Maybe Odin wouldn've taken them, and maybe even Baldur, but not Ganesh! What the hell?!?

Zao Shen, whom I don't know, will forever in my mind be defending the Discworld's world turtle, Great A'Tuin and thus be slightly awesome.

Kali's "You Western religions suck!" speech was win, though.

Why no one made the, "lucky son of a virgin" joke is beyond me, and only shows how much more awesome it would've been if Show embraced the Gaiman. This goes for the four horsemen aswell. War was a red-headed woman in my version of SPN canon, and Death better as hell be a skeleton WHO TALKS IN CAPSLOCKS or so help me gods!

I really would've loved it if there'd been a god of telephones or the internet or something like that too...


Apart from the squee-by-similarity, there was much death of squee. I've always loved Gabriel, even in his Trickster days. Or maybe especially then. Either way, his snark and sass were epic and I adored him. I'd been hoping for him to join the Team Free Will and... Well, he did, but ouch, I'm going to miss him. I loved every little bit of him in this episode.

On a final note, Lucifer is one bad-ass and awesome angel. Thank gods we finally got to see the smiting part of him after all those monologues of, "Oh, I is so misunderstood! Woe!" I demand more Mark Pellegrino.

And Cas. I missed him, BAMF that he's become.

Doctor Who - I think my favorite episodes of New Who are those with the Weeping Angels. I was actually scared at some points, and that never happens with the good Doctor. I loved it! Even if I was shouting at the screen, "One head! One! Not two! Look at the statues!" Can't wait for the second part \o/

Ashes to Ashes - I still haven't watched last week's, but I hear there's some epic graffiti. Oh pleasepleaseplease let's have Sam Tyler show up if only for a little bit!

Castle - Patience, my precious.

Lost - Stupid no-new-episode week. Harrumpf.

Agora (Trailer, Wiki) - This movie (which was pretty awesome yet gruesome and made me go, "Oh, the humanity! Religion, why?!?" and also "Holy fuck is Rupert Evans gorgeous, but mrawr is Max Minghella scrumptious" and "It's an elipse! Argh, watching you suffer and research is making me sad I can't help!") touched on a number of moments in characters' lives and psyches that I'm going to have to hunt down for in fanfic, which will probably be futile.

Mainly I'm interested in Davus' psyche, dying to read internal monologues of the night he was freed - both before, during and after - and dealing with his anger and love and brain-washing and post-slave status and reconciling the violence with the belief and on and on and on. And some smut or UST wouldn't go amiss ;)
