My brain's gone and died somewhere, taking my mid-term memory with it, but I figure I might as well write down some bullet points on recent Sickledom while I can.

So the day after my "Grr, argh, mother!" post, I had a great whooping shout-out with - or at - mom, which began over some Not Nice Things Said by mom of the, "You're just sitting there wasting your life away!" and "Imbecile!" type. I countered in my defense and asked to be left the fuck alone, seeing as she was leaving, but no dice, so I countered some more, and then the ball just kept rolling and my brain went *bzzt* and "Oh, we're doing this now?" and just started spouting off all the things that it'd been gnawing on for the last days and listing things and explaining just why and how she was crushing my soul and being a horrible person.

The result was some "Grr! Argh!" followed by counter-arguments and then- Gnah, it's freaking creepy when you see the exact second that people stop being angry at you and exclaming all over the place and start listening and thinking and I just kept on kermit flailing massively, shaking, sobbing and just basically loosing it and telling her everything, censor off, about life, disappointments, struggles and everything and she listened and stopped shouting and edged me back all the way from the living room to my bedroom asking and trying to understand and crying and looking as if I were driving a stake into her heart because now she finally saw that things she did or said hurt and I was just this quivering raw mess of emotions asserting itself and then she was all, please, let's go out for a walk and I couldn't because all I wanted was to lie down and cry for an eon or two and I definitely didn't want to go anywhere with her, but then she told me of where she was going and tried to explain how to get there if I wanted to and because the directions weren't making sense and Rome is BIG and CONFUSING I finally said, "Fuck it," and went with and then things got better and she was nicer and things are still better even though we don't talk about it because we never talk about things in this family or say we're sorry but at least I can actually breathe without doing it wrong and things are better with mom and this is a good thing and I'm sorry about the whole run-on sentences but I've been resolutely Not Thinking About It for two days now and if I do try to remember what I said or felt or whatever I'm going to break into little pieces so just know that things were said and they were heard and understood and taken into consideration and I'm not going to fantasize about fast-moving trains or take a job sheering sheep or anything like that.

So yay, things are much better.


In other, more coherent, news, last week's Lost episode was for the win, Human Target is made of squee, this week's Supernatural will apparently break my heart and I managed to write one line for The Ballonist's Wife because I fail at finishing that story.

Meme - 30 Days - Day 21 → A recipe Chocolate-in-Betweens

1 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup butter, chilled
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
3/4 to 1 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips (vary according to your preferences)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In food processor, mix flour, salt, and butter. Stop when everything is blended into a fine meal (but before it forms a ball). Combine the brown sugar. Add the oatmeal, and pulse it to integrate. (Don't over-mix or the oats will get too chopped up.) Press about half the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9"x13" to 11"x14" pan. Reserve the other half.

In a saucepan, combine the condensed milk and chocolate chips, and heat the mixture (on low heat), mixing constantly, until the chips are fully melted and integrated. Pour over the crust in the pan. Sprinkle the remaining dough over the top, coating it as evenly as possible, and then lightly press it (without letting the chocolate ooze up). Bake until lightly brown, about 25 to 30 minutes.

End result: crunchy sugar-encrusted oats surrounding gooey chocolatey goodness. Source, although I originally got the recipe when I was wee and allowed to pester my mother to bake sweets.

You could do a lot worse than shearing sheep for a living. You get paid good money per sheep, and if you're clever you can work 6 months in Australia and then 6 months in England, and there are less and less people trained well in sheep shearing so there would always be a job for you! Or maybe machines are taking over, I don't remember.

Um, I heard a long interview about it on CBC last year.
