Oy vey, I'm totally beat. I've just spent 4-5 hours in the basement rummaging through boxes of my possessions, trying to decide what I can take with me and what I can continue living without. Put like that it doesn't sound too taxing, but by gum, it really was. Not just physically - because a cramped, dusty, humid place on a hot day is fabulous - but emotionally as well. All my things! All my dear, dear things I can't have and don't know when next I'll see them.

Bear in mind that I'm a pack-rat and, more importantly, that I've lived in too many places to have constants beyond my things. We don't have a family house, we have things we don't throw away. (Until we're forced to, and then there is woe and mourning for ever and ever.)

Am so tired.

oh, honey...right there with you. *pats you* speaking as a fellow peripatetic packrat myself, there's almost nothing more traumatizing than weeding out your possessions. i've been doing this with my books and dvds for months (and will likely continue to do so ad infinitum, as my current rule is to try and trade old books/cds in for new ones instead of buying them new), and am soon going to have to tackle my clothes and photo albums. *whimper*

Hear hear. *snuggles* Good luck with that. Just the thought of letting go of books makes me cringe.

i've missed you, muffin!

i also hate getting rid of things. alex and i moved this summer, and while i was packing i got rid of a lot of stuff. and when i get back to montreal, i have to get rid of MORE stuff, because i own too much crap. at the moment i'm militant about not buying things because the giving-away-later stage is brutal.

you definitely have it worse, though, dearest. *hugs you*

So. Much. Stuff. One of the reasons why I want a house of my own is so that my stuff stays mine and within easy reach, not spread in *counts* 4 houses and 3 countries.

PS: Missed you too, muffin :)

I am very impressed that I knew you were referring to a packrat without checking your footnote :D

Having to get rid of stuff is always horrible, because no matter what it is you will need it two weeks after chucking it out. Always. It's like a law of the Universe or something :(

Srsly, this one time, I threw out sixteen empty coffee jars. Could I find anything to store different sized nuts and bolts in the following week? Could I buggery D:

I confess, I had no idea there really was a packrat.

Happily, I'm not actually throwing away stuff (for once). I'm just deciding between what stays in my uncles' basement and what gets stuffed in the suitcase to join me in the Netherlands. So, no chucking, just "Gods know when I'll see this again".

*grin* I had a storage character on a game once that I named neotoma cinerea, nobody seemed to get it.

Yay! for not having to throw stuff away :D Packing it up sucks, but at least if you need it you can still get at it :D
