You can hug me if you want.*

Went to Schipol Airport, wandered around, found an entire floor with a restaurant which I never knew about, so had a slightly disappointing pancake (the Dutch version, keep in mind) and a teeny tiny cap'. Then I wandered some more, scribbled in my diary (which at this rate will make yet another year), then I talked myself into going back to Leiden.
So, because I don't want to think at all about much of anything, incase my emotions get the better of me, or my hormones (damn them all to hell), I've been catching up on my flit. Which means this post is going to have oodles of Doctor Who links.
But before that, I sort of got quoted and then really did get quoted on
ljdq! \o/ This makes me happy.
I'm not going to go into what I thought about the episode in depth. I loved Dalek Caan and Mickey, and the briefest cameo of Jackie. (I did not like that Mickey considered he had nothing back in AU to keep him there. What about your Irish boyfriend, Mickey?!? (Fine, he never quote made it into cannon, but damnitall.) Also, seriously, Mickey didn't make a life for himself in AU? Rose, I understand, (because of the writers, not because it's really in-character for her, at least independent Season 1 Rose), but not Mickey.
I thought it was a bit rubbish that I was giggling hysterically at twirly!Daleks, because these are supposed to be monsters, and will now never be respected as such.
Tennant made me cry, as always, with his newest version of crying and not-crying.
Donna was excellent and is now living happily ever after flying across the universe in her own Tardis, thankyouverymuch. (In case you can't read italics, that means Sickle hates the retcon of Donna. Hates.) And why didn't Donna get a Human!Ten hug goodbye?!? (And what was it with Capn. "I'll Shag Anyone" Harkness totally ignoring Donna's blatant flirting?)
I found Human!Doctor to be very sorely treated. Hell, the Doctor would have forgiven the Master that little stint, why not the Human!Doctor? Was Human!Doctor using a sciency-gun really that bad? Over all the other options? Anyway, he was just finishing the Doctor's job in the first place, the one he so badly fudged in the Time War and so many times after that. Also, I find the ending really creepy for both Rose and Human!Doctor. He's second fiddle, comensation prize, and he knows it. (He was bleedin rejected first off, after all.) And honestly, would the Doctor really revel in being human? Let's not forget Nine's contempt for the human race, and Ten's bipolar "Humans rule! Humans are idiots!" thing. Also, Human!Doctor isn't exactly like the Doctor, because he's part-Donna. Take that Rose.
Rose. Damnit, woman, I liked you. What the hell is in the water of Bad Wolk Bay?!? (And as others have mentioned, just why does Rose need to go back to AU? She obviously hasn't made a life for herself. (Mickey had a choice, at least.)
What was is with all the suicide threats? Seriously, this show's got a thing about it.
Question: did the Ood prophecy of the Doctor's song ending ever get answered? Or did they phrase it explicitly to Doctordonna?
Promise: If Mickey joins Torcdhwood, I'm watching it.

Okay rationally I get why, I DO, BUT MY HEART IS NOT MY BRAIN AND THUS IT STILL HURTS SO FUCKING MUCH.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
I really want to see them actually giving the Doctor a long-term character arc- of going from the angry, manic, dark loner who just wanted a blonde to squish to the happy but still dark loner who couldn't open his heart to a love who would just die to EMO EMO EMO EMO EMO EVERYTHING I TOUCH DIIIIIEEEES to actually functional.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
So for her to lose her memories really pisses me off. Because she chose with both eyes open and without the distracting dazzle of the Doctor's presence that she wanted that experience. And to have it taken away from her for such a stupid reason isn't ironic or dramatic or tragic, it's just pointless. [...] So we spend the entire season pointing out how awesome Donna is just as herself but to save the day she has to become part-Doctor after which she gets punished for rising above her station by having all the wonderful memories of the trip she chose to take erased. Right, just so we're clear.
And what right does the Doctor have for shorting out Jack's teleporter? He's not a con man anymore. He's saved the Earth multiple times, and there are times when having a teleporter would save lives. So, the Doctor is killing people for what reason exactly?

Speaking of red herring... RTD must have included several fishmongers in with the gaggle of fanfic authors mentioned above. Red herring rained down from the skies. I'll never get the fishy smell out of my TV.
But this is RTD writing Rose/Ten, so there has to be a happy ending, no matter how shoehorned.
Everyone else walks away, into either the sunset or a spinoff series. Except Donna. Oh, yes. That pissed me off.
Series four has been, most strongly, the story of Donna Noble growing from a shallow shrew into a capable adventurer and compassionate human being. The most important woman in the universe, or so we're told. And so, after finally finding and accepting everything she can be... It all gets taken from her. Not just the special knowledge, but all of it. All the best moments of her life, erased. Dumped back in her mum's house, ignorant, looking like a fool. [...] Donna gets her self -- the self she's always wanted, the self with confidence and power -- taken away.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Her final scene in the TARDIS just broke me. [...] No, it's because she had so much promise; she FUCKING KNEW her life without the Doctor will amount to nothing... truly nothing. That's terrifying to know.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
Giving her a Doctor was kind of great in an evil way. She got her cake, she's eating it, but it's carrot and not chocolate.

Date: 2008-07-08 12:50 pm (UTC)I remember Schiphol being enormous, or maybe that's just because we had 20 minutes to get from one end of it to the other... (I am not even using hyperbole there). But still, probably an interesting place to go on a wander to :D
I was more wondering how they were going to get out of the regeneration, you can't keep that sort of thing out of the papers here. A new Doctor is big news.
