Ok. But dogs CAN look up!*

First off: Josie just called! Weeeeeeee! It's been ages. Weeeeee!
Second off:
active_apathy made me an icon! Weeeeee!
I was watching Shaun of the Dead (again), as one does whilst waiting to acquire Heroes: The Hard Part, which will be today's viewing. (I am well-prepared to have my heart torn out and cry buckets during the viewing.)
One thing bothered me: They could have easily taunted Zombie!Stepdad out of the car and jumped in themselves. Then they would've had transportation and weapons. Silly.
I realized a few things, the most inconsquential of which is that the music supervisor was Nick Angel. This is only relevant because he was also the music supervisor for Hot Fuzz, which in turn is only relevant because the main character of that film is called Nicholas Angel.
Also, I googeld a bit and realized why Yvonne (Jessica Hynes) looked so familiar: Dr Who: The Family of Blood, Human Nature. The fandoms bleed!
One other thing I realized is just why I like this film, and Hot Fuzz, so much: it's not a single genre. I mean, RomZomCom**, yeah? But the genres were each well-represented in the film. And while it is a parody (of sorts), it's not stupid, and doesn't feel like it's making fun of something, but rather stands on its own two film-feet rather well. I found that the comedy didn't ruin the horror or the suspense. Hell, I near bloody cried first time watching it***. But that didn't stop everyone in the cinema, myself included, from laughing out loud - or "Ah!"-ing - and having a ball. (Best. Movie. Experience. EVAR.)
And a lot of that emotional resonance - whatever I mean by that - rests on Simon Pegg's**** shoulders. Worried!Shaun, or Miserable!Shaun^ or Waving-a-broken-bottle!Shaun are all so well done that I forget I'm watching a comedy, or a parody, or even a zombie-movie and just go, "Omg, Shaun, baby!" (I am not tearing up now at the memory. Nope.)
That's also why I ended up liking Hot Fuzz: the serious bits are done seriously, no toungue-in-cheek "Ho ho! Look! It's a saaaaad bit." And the emotion was serious and all-out-there.
I'm not managing to make much sense today, am I?
Look, it's simple: I liked it because it made me laugh and cry and I could stand back and poke fun with it and then be dragged in with the characters for the ride.
Thirdly, I realized that I have a very strange lust-button. Seriously. Apparently, I like my characters to be dusty and broken and with the emotional turmoil of a blender on a high setting^^. And lanky. And angry.
Case in point: Shaun at the beginning of the movie? Meh, s'ok. Shaun starts getting beaten down and teary? Iiiinteresting. Shaun gets rumpled and bloody and proactive omg yes!
The exact same thing happened with Sylar. I didn't start lusting after the man until he rolled over in the dirt with a sweaty wife-beater.
The Master? Same deal. He's crazy, he's skinny, he's lustworthy. Sam Tyler also gets a few points, but then, I had a thing for John Simm at the time.
The Doctor? (Ten, mind. Nine sort of puts me off when he's all, "Ew, stupid humans." He's ok when he's not depressed.) Have you seen serious!Tenant?
Spike? Granted, he's gotten more muscles over the years (which is niiice). But yet another tall, lanky, somewhat unhinged with a touch of evil guy.
I think that's also why I find myself sorta liking Dr House despite myself. It's the lank and the turmoil. *sigh*
What is it with me?!?
vaeltaa's picspam of Zachary Quinto on 24, with much snark, is so good, it's not even going on the LotD list, but right smack here.

ursulav's Today's Awesomely Weird Science Tidbit!, summarized as: "Basically a teenager gets a liver transplant, and a year later it turns out that her bloodtype has changed to match the liver, and weirder yet, stem cells from the liver had penetrated her bone marrow and she now has a donor immune system. Amazing! Freaky! Probably not replicable, but god, if only!" The comments kind of take off the novelty shine of this, but hey! awesome!
* Shaun, Shaun of the Dead
** Romance, Zombie, Comedy
*** Shaun and his mum's last scene.
**** SPegg was indeed nominated for an Empire Best Actor award. Shaun of the Dead's done remarkable well in that department as well.
^ When he's at the pub after being dumped: that is one miserable, teary, sadsadsad man.
^^ Assuming blenders have emotions, or that turmoil is like being in a blender, or something.
