Since I have the entire film screencap-ized, I'll be doing quite a few icons for 300.

The first batch:

1. 2. 3.
4. 5. 6.

(I'm going to fiddle a bit more with the lateral-spartan one... Maybe a different font.)

There's some more crack over at [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories and man is it ever crack.

ETA: Through kind [livejournal.com profile] metaquotes folk, I am now armed with several vampire books which avoid the whole "omg sexy and/or tortured" concept, and focuses heavily on the "blood-sucking fiend" aspect. These are:

- Robin McKinley, Sunshine
- Legacy of Kain
- Jhonen Vasquez (sp?)'s short-story in his "JtHM" (which means...?) comics
- China Mieville's books puts "an interesting spin on old monsters" (says [livejournal.com profile] barhaven)
- Hellsing, suspected-manga-comic, featuring Alucard as a vampire
- Harry Dresden's books

And I totally need to watch Blood: The Last Vampire, yo.

AN: The last line is from TPratchett's Discworld series.

The troll charged through the hedges, club raised, hollering a string of consonants few would be able to imitate. The dwarves turned ‘round slowly. One let go of his red wheelbarrow, another stopped whistling mid-tune. The troll continued to advance on them, a hulking mass like a strone-wall on columns which suddenly decided to wobble forward.

As one, the dwarves raised their pick-axes and gave a battle cry. Surviving witnesses allow for the translation, which is this: “Today is a good day for someone else to die.”

"That's two words," said Dibbler.

I went swimming yesterday (and will do so today, though not out of joy.

I then went to the movies to watch Das Leben Der Anderen, which was really good. (Don't believe me? Won Oscar for best Foreign Film, and has another 33 awards and 10 nominations.) The character of Hauptmann Gerd Wiesler (played by Ulrich Mühe) was incredibly sympathetic - a clear case of actions louder than words. The man rarely says anything, or does anything, too overt. There's a lot of quiet scenes of him, where he's thinking, but the audience just sees the results.

I also uploaded some horrific bits of writing on [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories. Not horrific, really, but enough of a fuzzy subject matter that I'm considering taking it down again. (It's classified as Mary-Sue-ish and self-insertionist, so that'll give you an idea.)

Do you have any idea how bloody hard it is to find an appropriate quote for such a lame post as this?

The elements to include are the bandage (both the white and the black ones)and the missing eye, the necklace, and the fact that Dilios is the only Spartan on the way home.
