Craig Packer, "the lion guy" works at the University of Minnesota, which has a graduate program called Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour.

"Opportunities for field research are available in Africa, Alaska, Central America, and other parts of the world, as well as in local ecosystems. Seminars and individually designed tutorials are an important part of student programs and provide an exciting intellectual environment."

"Students admitted to the Ph.D. program must have outstanding credentials and seek a career in research. Those admitted for the Master’s degree must also have a strong academic background, but may have a variety of career goals that require advanced training in ecology, evolution, or behavior."

Well, guess I'm fucked for the PhD then.

"For our 52 current Ph.D. students, the Analytical, Quantitative, Verbal and Biology GRE scores are 719±82, 705±67, 599±101, and 749±91. Most of our incoming students have an analytical score of 5.0 or above. The mean undergraduate Grade Point Average is 3.75±0.26 (mean ± 1 standard deviation). The standard deviations reflect that weakness in one area is often compensated by strength in another component of a successful application. Our only hard and fast admission’s cutoff specifies the minimum English language competency for international students whose native language is not English; they must earn the minimum score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL or a 550 on the older paper-based TOEFL exam, as specified by the Graduate School, unless they have completed 16 semester credits (within the past 24 months) in residence as a full-time student at a recognized institution of higher learning in the United States. A minimum total score of 79, plus section scores of at least 21 on the writing section and 19 on the reading section are required for admission on the new internet based TOEFL (IBT)."

Emphasis mine. Rat bastards.

The Graduate School requires all applicants to complete their application onlin. [...] Send originals of the application material (except GRE scores) to:

Graduate School
University of Minnesota
309 Johnston Hall
101 Pleasant St. SE
Minneapolis, MN 55455-0421

The GRE scores (the general exam is required and the subject exam in biology is optional) will be sent directly to the EEB Graduate Program by the Educational Testing Service. Request that they be sent to institution number 6874 (University of Minnesota), and program number 0207 (Ecology, Evolution & Behavior)."

"Please send the EEB application to:

Director of Graduate Admissions
Department of Ecology, Evolution & Behavior
100 Ecology Building
1987 Upper Buford Circle
University of Minnesota
St. Paul, Minnesota 55108-6097"

Application deadline: Dec 15.

The prof also suggests wildlife medicine at UC Davis, which would be interesting, considering how fascinating I found the problems involved in the captive breeding of cheetahs when I wrote the term paper.

Then there's the Zoological Society in London, about which he says: "More fun, because of the animal connection, is the Zoological Society in London, right at the zoo - skip the PhD program and all these years and go straight to a PhD thesis (2-3 years)." Except I can't find that PhD thesis thing he's talking about, despite the site map

I like this skipping thing. But London is expensive and all "you're not financially considered European". I was also kinda keen on the USA.

I am so lost right now.
