The people! Oh god, the people. I hate people. Or, well, not people, as in "person". You, person, I like. You, crowd, I do not.
Sorry.
And to all you mobs of screaming little children pressing your grubby little paws against the glass: die!
Or leave. Whichever.
The people, coincidently, are also ignorant. Disturbingly ignorant. "Oh look, it's a rat." (It was a muskrat.) "Oh, look, a rat." (A praire dog.) "Oh, look, a beaver." (Again, muskrat.)
We do not throw peanuts at the elephant. We do not throw water bottles into cages. We do not hand hay to the orangutan. We do not tap on the glass.
Oh god, the people...
Some good things were had, though. Saw a chimp run up to the glass (totally freaking out a kid, which was cool) to check out a balloon. Horse-shaped balloon.
Saw two baby alligators on some branches. Alligators in a tree!!!
Saw some crocodiles adopted by Lacoste. Mur?
Saw a itty bitty snake and a huge reticulated python yawn. Both cool.
Almost-saw Cape Hunting Dogs, but they were hiding int he shade. The cheetah was more in sight.
However, not terribly impressed: zoo was a bit of a let-down. I mean, it's a big zoo, right, in a big city, with years and years of history and whathaveyou. Didn't seem like it. Sure, it was Sunday pm and there were a lot of people, but I found the zoo to be too much of a "park with animals" concept (with added restaurants ever two steps). Could we clean the water up a bit too?
And please, please get your english translations right. Please. Not just animal names, although looking for a drill amongst mandrils was interesting. Monkeys with tools!
