“I think we should have an encore.”  Bofur’s cheerful voice shattered the quiet.

Thorin glanced up, head tilting to the side in a warning gesture that he was done humouring them.

Bofur ignored him.  “The lass here is going to sing, aren’t you?”  He clapped her on her back, then said, in a stage whisper, “You can sing, can you not?”

“Yes – yeah, I can,” she stuttered, caught off guard.

“Fantastic!” cried Bofur.  A few other voices joined him, Kili nearly shouting in Grace’s ear.

“But not very well,” continued Grace.

Bofur took his hat off his head and pressed it to his chest.  “I promise not to hold it against you.”

At Grace’s hesitation, Gandalf spoke up.  “I think it would be nice to hear a song from your world.”

Grace flinched.  Your world.  The night sky weighed down over her.

“Aye,” agreed Gloin.  “A bit of new blood.  If I have to hear the same ten songs over and over again from that fellow –” he pointed at Bofur, who grinned cheekily back at him, “I’ll go mad.”

Grace tried another tactic.  “Well, I – I couldn’t possibly,” she said, gesturing towards Thorin. “That’s – that’s a tough act to follow – I don’t think I –”

“Go on,” said Thorin, and he might have smiled, or it may have been a trick of the light.  “Sing us a tune, if that will get Bofur off your back.”

“It will, you know,” nodded Bofur.

I imagine her singing John Denver's "Country Roads" because, oddly enough, the lyrics apply to the Dwarves a bit.

She probably did not sing "Short People Got No Reason To Live", because otherwise this story might suddenly end. Very abruptly. ;-)

Oddly enough, "Country Roads" is a song I've long associated with these short idiots dwarves. It's on the soundtrack (http://bending-sickle.tumblr.com/post/65802494420/songs-of-grace-volume-2-modern-songs-1) and everything.

And no, best not to taunt the vertically challenged. Besides, they're practically her height. Glass houses, and all that.

Hah. I love it when we think alike! Unless we're thinking of two different songs with the same title, in which case, I love wacky coincidences!

Also, I like the concept of what you're writing, which seems to be "Redo the Dwarves' quest, only replace Bilbo with a person from Modern Earth and see what happens". Interesting. I would love to read this when it's all done, if you're in the mood to share.

...erm, well, you have the concept sort of right. Bilbo is still in the story, but yeah, Modern Earth Person Going All Fish Out Of Water Up In This Joint is the main, er, thrust. (Oh, poor unfortunate word. Don't you giggle; I heard you giggle.) Other people have written similar things, both for the Hobbit and other fandoms. Ah, fangirls. We are a predictable bunch.

And sharing will be happening *does a little omg someone wants to read the thiiiing dance* Although it probably won't be done by November's end. (This story is too biiiiiiiig.)

I never would giggle for the word thrust.

I can read Part One of your epic storyline. After all, it's not like I haven't done that before. ;-)
