Reading makes our speaking English good*

i got word back from the university re: my question of “but what does it take for you to consider someone a first-language English speaker and would i have to sit a toefl for you”

they don’t answer the first question, which fine, and they say that i don’t have to prove my english skills because i studied at an institute ~recognized~ by them.  what it takes for an institute to be recognized by them and what it means, i don’t know, but the institute in question is an english-speaking one in an english-speaking commonwealth country so *shrugs*

so yay i don’t have to prove stuff (whelp i mean they’re going to want to see a diploma or somesuch but yeah)

but i’m a bit peeved that the only reason i don’t is because of that one tiny little “that school was on our list”

like

what about my whole “i’m first-language speaker and i will fight you on this" and "i am actually certified to teach english” thing

so that’s a qualified yay

(also they were like "after looking at your cv i see that you studied at x" and i'm like THAT WAS IN THE BODY OF MY EMAIL DID YOU EVEN READ IT)

Jive is the best language ever.

And LJDQ is just on a hiatus. I got all busy and crazy and full of real life and stuff. Curse you reality! I just want the funnies! It will return, it will be back, and then... stuff. Again.

FWIW, it might be as simple as someone they trust having been there? I remember when I was in Dubai there was a big flap because Rashidia and Latifah had been claiming that they were English-speaking schools when everything except the English lessons were taught in Arabic.

FWIW, it might be as simple as someone they trust having been there? - I don't know? Because my other university is in the Netherlands, which is known for giving graduate education in English. My own suspicion is that this is more a country thing than anything else, but whatever gets me of the TOEFL, right?
