Lonely Little Petunia - Imogen Heap
I'm a lonely little petunia
In an onion patch
Riches and Wonders - The Mountain Goats
And I want to go home
But I am home
Take Me Home - Aqualung
And I'm wandering
Wondering where to turn
There's a dead end straight ahead
Won't you take me home?
Seagull - Bad Company
Nobody asks you where you are going
Nobody knows where you're from
Driftwood - Travis
Home is where your heart is
But your heart had to roam
Drifting over bridges, never to return
Watching bridges burn
Life For Rent - Dido
I haven't really ever found a place that I call home
I never stick around quite long enough to make it
Any Other World - Mika
Take a bow, play the part of a lonely, lonely heart
Say goodbye to the world you thought you lived in
Cathedrals - Jump, Little Children
In the cathedrals of New York and Rome
There is a feeling that you should just go home
And spend a lifetime finding out just where that is
Place Called Home - Kim Richey
Oh, I'd rather walk a winding road
Rather know the things I know
See the world with my own eyes
No regrets, no looking back, no goodbyes
Papa Was A Rodeo - The Magnetic Fields
Home was anywhere with diesel gas
Love was a trucker's hand
Never stuck around long enough for a one night stand
Walk On - U2
The only baggage you can bring
Is all that you can't leave behind
I've Been Everywhere - Johnny Cash
I've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the deserts bare, man.
I've breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I've had my share, man.
Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan
How does it feel
To be witout a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
Laugh, I Nearly Died - The Rolling Stones
I've been wandering, feeling all alone
I lost my direction and I lost my home
Vibrations In Air - Josh Pyke
Regret, is like a filter,
that colours all your endeavours
And once put on becomes a feature of your current works
Apply Some Pressure - The Automatic
What happens when you lose everything?
You just start again
You start all over again
In Exile - Thrice
I know I don't belong here
I'll never call this place my home
I'm just passing through
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2
I have run
I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
Walk Like You Don't Mind - Blue Rodeo
When you're walking across the river for the very last time
Leaving all your friends and family far behing
Walk like you don't mind

Date: 2010-11-19 09:02 am (UTC)Sometimes there's such a divide between what we TCKs feel and what other people think we feel. Our loneliness is not quite their loneliness; it's similiar, but different, and there's a definite sense of lost in that non-understanding. But the combination of quotations and the song lyrics in this album go a long way to capturing what it's truly like to be a TCK, and I thank you for it.

Date: 2010-11-19 04:56 pm (UTC)I've always been a third culture kid - and fourth, fifth... - and it still hits me sometimes, so I made the mix and quotes to cope.
Also, I'm so glad I learned that there was such a concept as a TKC, because I thought it was just me not being able to handle things well or adapt. Glad to know there's others out there.

Date: 2010-11-20 04:47 pm (UTC)It's really a lovely album ♥. I just moved again recently, so yes, I'm dealing with the bundle of issues that brings up, and listening to the music and just zoning out for a while, it's nice.
