I was distracted by your words.*
Mar. 5th, 2011 11:30 pmI've been watching quite a bit of John Simm things recently, by which I mean two, really. There's Mad Dogs, which just finished its first season's four-episode run. I really liked it, mainly because it was two of my favorite actors and two other actors I rather like either parading about shirtless or panicking over corpses. Either way, I'm good. Also, it's John Simm, people. (I also love you, Philip Glenister!)
The other Simm thing I'm watching is Sex Traffic which is very much making me go D: because it's, well, about the sex traffic business, showing two women trapped into prostitution by false promises of being taken to London. It doesn't skimp on the depiction of the horrid treatment, either. Makes my having watched The Secret Diary of a Call Girl yesterday bizarre in comparison.

1. Make a list of 5 things that you can see without getting up.
1. My bookshelf
2. My calendar (set to Earthrise)
3. My half-abandoned knitting project
4. The neighbourhood's monastery
5. Betsy, my tiny abandoned guitar
2. How do you style your hair?
I get it wet and hope its curls curl together in some semblance of order.
3. What are you wearing now?
Sweatpants, a shirt, a woolen sweater, a bathrobe, woolen socks, and a blanket. And I'm still cold.
4. What's your occupation?
*laughs bitterly* I'm a Biologist, have been paid for translation, am doing an internship in translation and editing, and am currently sending out CVs for laboratory technician positions. I don't know.
5. What do you hear right now?
My laptop's fan and nothing else. This is good.
6. Who was the last person you hugged?
My internship supervisor. We've got that kind of relationship :)
7. What is/was for dinner?
Last night I had tea with almond-based biscuits and marzipan, so dinner wasn't really in the picture until I had a glass of milk with a couple of digestives. Tonight'll probably be the same.
8. What did you do today?
I'm trying to upload a whole mess of photoraphs to send to my brother, but it's taking ages and ages and I'm still not done. I also watched Supernatural.
9. Dog person or cat person?
To own, a cat. To cuddle? Anything. Although I might be more of a hamster person, and I really think I'd like rats.
10. If you had to change your name, what would you change it to?
I suppose I'd change it to something that had the same first syllable (or close to it) as my given name, so I would actually respond to it. I once told a creep on the metro my name was Alice, and I used to use Stephanie (or Steph) when posting on sites where I had no account, so maybe those.
11. What was the last thing that you bought?
A Kinder Surprise egg! Or maybe a monthly metro card.
12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Everywhere. I'd start off with Ireland and Scotland and New Orleans and Australia and head on from there. Well, actually I'd start off visiting my friends who are too bloody far away.
13. Favourite band/musician?
I can't do favorites. It's a condition, you see. But, given that, I'm exceedingly fond of U2, Queen, Blue Rodeo, Loreena McKennit, The Decemberists, and Imma stop me right there because this will just go on and on.
14. Favourite book?
Books. Plural. Also a huge list. It includes Good Omens, In the Language of Love, East of Midnight, The Witches, The Horse and His Boy, and Threshold.
15. If you could kiss, hug and make love to anyone in the world (fictional or real person), who would it be?
Firstly, a very important question: Would they want me to? Because that right there is important. Oh, I could throw myself at a lot of people, but not if I'd have to tie them down first. But if they were willing? Oooh man, the list is long and smoldering, and right now Dean's on top. *rereads that last bit* *melts*
16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
The piano. I used to play it when I was wee, and damnit, I miss it. Following that, the guitar, because Betsy's sad and lonely, and my pennywhistle - henceforth named Veronica and who is also sad and alone. After that the violin or viola or something of that ilk.
17. How are you?
Trying very hard.
18. What are you doing tomorrow?
Same as today, except with less Supernatural and more German homework.
19. If you could be anywhere, where would it be?
Right now? I'd be having tea with
seschat and telling her she rocks.

- Rufus! (Yes, he gets his own point.)
- Bobby working a job! We haven't seen that since, like, Dream a Little Dream or something like. And he's rockin' the suit, too.
- Rufus and Bobby working a job together! This is the spin-off I never knew I wanted!
- The second after I thought, "Hey, I'm kinda starting to like this Gwen person," guess what happens? Yeah. Thanks, possessed!Dean. Grr.
- Is it wrong that I find murderous!Dean sexy? When he walked right up to Samuel hellbent on killing him dead, I was a happy little puddle of goo.
- Dean, Sam, Bobby and Rufus. This is the dream team I never knew I wanted. Almost made me not miss Castiel.
- Speaking of that feathered little guy... Show? Please be stepping up the angel part of the plot, yes?
- I cheered so loud when Samuel died. I'm sorry Dean didn't get to do it, thought, because he really wanted to and who am I to say no to that kind of satisfaction, and because also we know Sam's beating himself up about it.
- Dear Mother of All Monster: please be more interesting. Kthnxbai.
- Possessed!Bobby was disturbing. Highly. His voice, the way he angled his head, just... Eep!
- I enjoyed the episode, even though the title - and what is it with Season 6 having such long rambly titles? - basically said, "Expect a high death toll in an enclosed, who-is-the-killer situation."
- Speaking of, the whole, "It's not me!" paranoia got a bit old, but maybe that's just because I watched The Misfits 2x01 a while back where the same thing happened, and Mad Dogs also had some paranoia. But still, it's nothing new, even on Supernatural, with the whole, "I'm me!" scenes we've seen resurrected Dean and Sam pull off. It just felt a tad too "I've seen this before". It was still enjoyable and well done, though, so points for that.
- And finally: oh my god, they killed Rufus! You bastards!

Date: 2011-03-06 10:26 pm (UTC)As for the French, I have no idea, but I've come across a few people who pronounce French words in the French way simply because that's how the word's supposed to sound, regardless of their French knowledge. (As an aside - and you probably knew this already - I just learnt he taught English at a Tibetan monastery one year.)

Date: 2011-03-06 11:11 pm (UTC)There is a lot of gibbering going on about the Doctor Who question, also. The internet has speculated all manner of wild things. He says he hasn't been offered the part of the Doctor, at least not yet -- having worked with Gatiss and Moffat for a while now it's possible his name would come up for Twelve when Smith leaves. Several people have pointed out that he'd make a pretty bang-up recurring Master, if he wanted it. In any case, he and Freeman both seem to be very invested in Sherlock for the forseeable future; Freeman reportedly took his role in The Hobbit on the condition that they -- the enormous hugely-hyped movie production crew that is rolling in influence and money, primarily money -- scheduled around shooting Sherlock series 2.
Lovely to see the both of them so well-sorted for work that they can pick and choose. Almost makes me sad that I can't stand watching stuff like The Office, where the entire premise is lot of ordinary people living through one huge drawn-out awkward moment, day after day -- it actually makes me more uncomfortable when the actors are very good, as I'm told the UK cast is.
