bending_sickleSince my brother's not coming across the pond for the holidays, I'm flying to visit him. We just bought the ticket tonight, and this was the cause of much, much drama. Because obviously my mom's been checking out the tickets for days, and now the tickets are all so much more expensive OMG, and she knew exactly when I should travel even though I just found out today I was supposed to travel before Christmas, not after New Years because no one ever tells me things ever, and because the question, "Have you thought about when you'd like to go?" is really supposed to be, "You're going sometime between these dates, tell us, because apparently we need you to decide, even though we're going to watch you make the reservation because it's our credit card you're using", and this is all a horrible mad drama because my mom thought I'd have a job and be working by now and guess what, so did I, and wtf does this have to do with anything omg italics of anger.
The evening has thus been shite and I still haven't had dinner. Plus yesterday I slipped and fell on my elbow - like, full body weight concentrated on the tiny little joint that is the elbow - because I had a blanket wrapped around my feet which were in crazy cold-induced pain because this house is a fridge and I solve things in very stupid ways yes I realize that, and now my arm is soresoresore. This calls for a viewing of a gore-filled horror movie with extra hotness (i.e. Friday the 13th of 2009).
Nanowrimo: I have no idea how I'm going to fluff up the ending to make it last 1500 words but by gods, I will finish it tomorrow and there will be kissing.

Then arms were wrapped around him and a chin was on his shoulder. Chip couldn’t decide whether this was something new, whether the arms had appeared sometime between Agatha’s bad ketchup joke and Saunders’ resounding laughter, or whether the arms had always been there around him and he’d just been too engrossed in the crowd below to realize it. But no, of course not, how could he have failed to notice the embrace when it was everything he needed.
Lightning flashed outside and the crowd in the street began to churn, everyone suddenly running and falling, crashing into each other and disappearing into stores and down metro entrances. In the mirror’s reflection Chip could see Steve standing behind him. He looked like he was far away, halfway across the living room, but someone’s arms were still wrapped tightly around him.

Also, sweets, I have a tiny questions in regards of the action potential: if it always has the same shape and only the transgression of the treshold potential is of any importance... I mean, I probably have this completely wrong, but how do we know how 'strong' the impulse was, how do we differentiate between soft touches, pain etc.?

As for soft touches, I remember that there's pressure sensors deep under the skin, and touch sensors at the top, so if only the ones at the top are activated, this means it's a soft touch, and if the ones all the way at the bottom layer of the skin get activated, it's a "hard" touch. As for pain - as in, "hmm, that hurt a little" or "omgwtfgetitoff" - it's more a matter of the signal going "beep.......beep.......beep" for low pain and "beep.beep.beep" for high pain, as in there's more signals going off faster (see it as a sort of flail, the faster it flails, the stronger the signal). Basically, strong stimuli = high frequency of signal.
Also: "The amplitude of an action potential is always the same regardless of stimulus strength; it is an all-or-nothing phenomenon.
