Mangoes: Proof of a benevolent god

Neither this nor last week have I done anything to advance the job or apartment situation. I think I´ve done the mental equivalent of crawling into a small hole and shivering.
Only now my muse has decided to torment me between her bouts of drinking.
I´ve got an idea for an honest-to-god fic. That means its got a plot, is somewhat logical, and bases itself solely on the established characters. The problem is I have the climax of the plot plus a few minutes before and after. I can´t for the life of me figure out how the whole thing starts.
Basically, our main character finds himself accused of betraying the others. That he´s done so in the past and has no problem with the concept isn´t a startling revelation to any of the others. But this time he didn´t do it.
Now what did he do*?
...only he didn´t "do" anything, because he´s inocent (this time) so who did what in a sufficiently vague fashion as to make everyone believe it was our guy?
*snarls in frustration*
