Nano: One internet abomination of a word is all you need: Omgyay!

On his way back to the common room, Chip turned off the path and walked down towards the fence. It was a dark night – overcast, new moon – but Chip could see clearly. His eyes were still doing the night-vision thing, although without any glitches, thankfully.

Standing by the gate, stiff as a rod, was Icarus’ reason for being here and, by proxy, Chip’s. He went up to stand beside the man. The man, Dean, didn’t acknowledge him, just kept his eyes fixed on the field and forest on the other side of the fence, or at least in their general direction. Chip was sure Dean couldn’t see squat in this dark.

Chip studied his new boss – I have a boss now? It’s the apocalypse and I’m gainfully employed? Bizarre. – from the corner of his eye. He had a nice profile, Chip thought. A few scars, a few wrinkles about the eyes, but a nice strong jaw and straight nose that would’ve had the cameras flashing back when life-or-death situations were those involving unexpected decaf the day of your big corporate presentation. He might even weaken a few knees, Chip added, taking in the full lips and shapely cheekbones, if he lost that angry Mc-Growly look.

“Cas’ told me about your trip,” said Dean abruptly.

“Cas?”

“Icarus.” Dean smirked. “He seriously let you call him that?”

Chip scowled in the darkness, instinctively recoiling at the cold tone. “It suites him,” he argued.

Dean’s face shut down at that, went blank and hard like a sheet of ice so fast Chip shivered.

Congratulations! I wish I had had the time to do it, but prepping and then flying to Kenya really took a huge bite out of my schedule. Guess I'll save it for next year again. Or have my own personal NaNo in... March. Yeah, March.

You kinda can't have my Nano yet because the story's not finished *cries a little* Also, it sucks, but shhh - don't tell anyone, yes? :( I am really very sad about these facts.
