Nano: Chip's Angel-Vision is really weird to write, and I fear I may have gone a bit overboard with it. I mean, the rest of the novel's very realistic (alright, apart from the zombie-auras and the magically miraculously-healing angel, fine), and then suddenly Chip's eyes are flashing about like crazy with the night-vision. *sigh* We've just turned onto the road leading to Let's-Call-Him-Dean's camp, so yay! almost done!

The first few hours had been torture on his eyes and reflexes, always catching sight of debris or roadkill just a second too late. But now, he figured, his eyes must have gotten used to the dark because he was cruising along the highway, snaking between trash of all kinds like it was a bright sunny day.

As they drove further north, closer to the lake – Perry Lake, apparently, which was a pretty lame name if you asked Chip – his eyes started, well, glitching. One minute he could be driving down a road, stooped over the steering wheel because some driving habits are hard to shake off and marveling at how clearly he could see everything and at the same time wishing he couldn’t. The next minute, without any warning, everything would go dark, back to dark-and-stormy-night levels instead of the bright-and-sunny ones that Chip had been so enjoying and cursing. It felt like an eclipse in fast-forward, dusk swooping down, falling like a heavy curtain.

By the time they were bordering the lake, Chip’s eyes weren’t so much glitching as having an all-out meltdown, with the on-and-off-again light levels pulsing like a strobe light at a discotheque. Every time his vision went dark, Chip cursed under his breath, resulting in an almost constant and highly creative stream of blasphemy, scatology and genealogy. Fortunately both Saunders and Agatha were asleep, so he could swear to his heart’s content, for while Icarus was awake, he neither knew nor cared whether the angel disapproved of his language. Hell, Chip wondered if there was anything Icarus disapproved of, or had any opinion towards.

Hi sickle!

Unrelated to anything, I just wanted to say that Kenya rules. Classic 105 in the morning rules. Monkeys rule. The UN Office at Nairobi rules. Kenyan drivers... well, they sort of rule, in the "we are batshit insane" kind of way.

Cheers!
