Briefly reporting to say that a) am still alive, b) am an ass for not having coffee with non of y'all locals, and c) will be in New flippin' York on Thursday until parents-know-when.

I've been reading loads and watching foreign films (Echte Kerle and Persepolis) among other things and just got back from a day at Niagara Falls.

Am far from peachy, but working on it.

Yes, I've had success with that approach on several occasions. With fruit trees, though, here, one can usually just ask. I've yet to be turned down. Owners are too lazy to pick them, and dislike rotting fruit covering their yards. This isn't half as fun as the under-cover-of-darkness technique, but it does allow for a bigger haul.
