My achey-breaky head
Feb. 24th, 2006 05:48 pmCan´t promise any sort of coherent entry, as am very tired.
Watched "Underworld 2". Think I preferred the first one for various reasons. First, I think the plot had a bit more "oomf". This movie was based entirely on a brother´s devotion (and murderous habits). There wasn´t that much intrigue and one or two revelations didn´t leave me gasping.
First off, the first bits were great.Slartibartfast Sean´s zombie dad Victor was cool, and I actually felt for poor Marcus and the whole "he ain´t heavy, he´s my brother" vibe.
However, I got very sick of the whole "before/after" memory shots. Stop it already.
And while I totally bought the attraction between Amelia and Michael in the firt movie, I got zip from them in the second. Not even the too-tastefully-done sex-scene. I couldn´t help staring at their positions, wondering if there was any actual skin-to-skin contact. The lighting, however, was gorgeous.
While I never cared forScott Michael (except as a point of some mild amusement in a few scenes in the first movie), in this second entry he was, well, just Some Guy. He got no real development (or, well, any I could care about).
Staring at a blood bag for a few hours? Doesn´t quite cut it. Louis* did a better job at moping than that kid. And when he was all "yes, you´re right, I should stay"? He should have been lying through his teeth, because that´s what the speech sounded like. He should´a run off after her or something.
The thing that pissed the hell out of me was how they kept showing lovely little images of Lucien then keeping him dead. And trust me,t here was no need to keep him dead. When K and I chatted about this movie, we came to the conclusion that, since Lucien had injected himself with Michael´s Special Blood, he´s be Special. As in, not die when pumped full of silver bullets.
But nooo. Even though the story was left wide open for the possibility of Lucien coming back, they didn´t. And by wide open, I mean wider than the gates of Hell, which I´ve been led to believe are wide enough to admit anything but the hopefull.
Oh come on. Lucien was the coolest thing in "Underworld". Think back on that scene where he doesn´t get run over by a car and instead does a flying leap onto the car´s roof and jams a knife through it. Wasn´t that cool? Yes.
And then, oh yes, and then they had to show his corpse in the present (as opposed to just flashbacks from the previous movie). This gave me hopes, despite the fact that the movie was well on its way. Then the ship had to go boomb. Bye-bye hopes of zombie!Lucien.
...OMG. We were totally right. He was the guy in "Timeline" who kept nonchallantly shouting out a warning when those giant flaming balls were launched at the castle. O.O
I really hated it that Marcus kept being Batface. Really. ´Cause human-looking, calm, cool, collected and homicidal Marcus? Much better.
I didn´t spot many gaping plotholes like in the last Underworld, but... Meh. Entertaining, but not amazing.
Oh, yeah, liked the Brit guy in the helicopter. I liked the historian, all Sex God one minute, Sniveling Minion the next. Most excellent music too.
Today watched "La Haine". Good film. Didn´t understand all of it, what with their slang, neologisms and that invented street!French language, Verlans. Totally saying "zarbi" instead of "bizarre" now.
Trying to change CV to English for an airline company but Windows won´t open here. Gargh.
