Lets rewrite an ending that fits*
Dec. 31st, 2008 08:00 pmHappy Impending New Year! \o/
Meme: How was 2008?
1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Do a literature research internship, take a business course (and all that involved), get [insert name] vaccines, air-travel alone with my brother, take malaria prophylaxis, drive, get evicted (sorta), post a macro story, attend a free concert, watch Jon Stewart, go clubbing in Chicago, get a hickey, get a manicure, attend a seminar in Dutch, attend a Richard Leakey lecture, have a twitching nerve for over 2 weeks, weigh [amount], have my parents in the Netherlands, drink whole beers, take the Burgos-Bareclona train alone, prepare a research internship in Kenya, write Lost and The Dark Knight fanfic, make detailed plans for a fanvid...
Doing things you've never done before is called living. Even if it's as inconsequential as blinking whilst looking to the right and lifting a tea mug.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
No, and not really.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not close per se, but people I know, yes.
5. What countries did you visit?
Netherlands, Canada, Belgium, Spain, USA.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Joy.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory?
My memory is an etch-a-sketch. This question is pointless. Events I'll remember, but not dates.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a 9 for my literature research internship, going to the gym regular, working my ass off 9only metaphorically, alas). Did we mention the hickey?
9. What was your biggest failure?
Generally sucking. Oh and weighing THIS MUCH.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Random sniffles and vaccination side effects.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
...my baseball cap? Again, memory = etch-a-sketch.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Various politicians, certain people of the faculty and myself's.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Food, rent, school, travel.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Election results and Kenya internship.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
Star's Heart and Calendar Girl.
17. Compared to this time last year, you are:
Happier or sadder: Same. I'm always miserable during the holidays with my parents. But in general it's been a better year. Except for the first few months which sucked ass. And the last ones, which aren't qualifiable as "living".
Thinner or fatter: Fatter. Fattest.
Richer or poorer: The folks are poorer (damn you, economic crisis!), so I am as well, being the parasitic leech that I am.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Planned for my future, extra-curricular activities, socializing, writing fiction and keeping in touch with folk.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Pointless work. Whining. Being fucking miserable. Could use less of that.
20. Howwill you be spending did you spend Christmas?
The usual. All four of us, eating, bickering, generally ignoring the whole good cheer and giving aspect of Christmas.
21. What was your favorite month of 2008?
I have reason to hate them all.
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
In lust. As always.
23. How many one-night stands?
None.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Supernatural and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart \o/
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.
26. What was the best book you read?
...let's say Caitlin Kiernan's Threshold.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Stars? Jay Chou? The Orthodox Celts? The hell should I know.
28. What did you want and get?
The Kenyan internship's pretty sweet. I also passed everything nicely.
The main problem with me is that I do not want. Or know what I want. But I got things which I like. So yays.
29. What did you want and not get?
Books. Ursula Vernon stuff. NGaiman's The Graveyard Book. Boxed DVDs of various series.
To say nothing of the non-material wants.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Slumdog Millionaire, The Dark Knight, Kung Fu Panda spring to mind. But again, memory go buh-bye.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Class, late work, hung out with Elisa. I was 25.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
All those gym hours PAYING THE FUCK OFF. Also, less loneliness, more friendship.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
"Can I wear it for 12 hours straight?"
34. What kept you sane?
The internet. ♥ And various television series.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jensen Ackles. I certainly remember that.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Elections and Prop. '08.
37. Who did you miss?
Everybody.
38. Who were the best new people you met?
The folks in my SBB course. Also, my supervisor's pretty swell.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
You don't really need a life if you have enough work.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I'm not even going to try to accurately sum up this past year into a quote, so here's the song that's been in my head for the past month.
Stars - Calendar Girl:
If I am lost for a day; try and find me
But if I don't come back, then I won't look behind me
All of the things that I thought were so easy
just got harder and harder each day
December is the darkest and June is the light
but this empty bedroom won't make anything right.
Links of the Day:
Hold on a second 2009: Extra tick goes on clock
Zombreality: Iamnotinfected.com
"That's Sir Terry Pratchett to you."
* "Someday", Nickleback
