You will go and you will be fine, worry not!

I am writting this from my feildwork in Rio. I got approval to do this 2 month trip 24 HOURS BEFORE DEPARTURE from my own couple metaphorical puppy killers. Again, safety was a key issue (as well as why go at all My response: um? Remember thats how you bribed me to do a phd? I can't study brazil from toronto!)

There will be lots of tears. Probably more anger and frustration, but IT WILL WORK OUT. management type people who don't spend time in the feild just don't get why you would want to "endanger" yourself. Or that you understand its unreasonable to walk around in all your glitter through a shanty town with a purse full of cash. Propably cause it hadn't occured to them not to.

I think this internship if freaking awesome, btw. AWESOME! Damn, you make me want to do proper biology again.

While I realize the lady in charge of making sure the university's not sending me to my death may be concerned about my safety, it's not the first time she's done this, and it's not the first time students have gone on things like these. Just, what?!
