Mom and Dad came today. We puttered about and had our traditional scrapes and eye-rolling and put-downs - much fun was had. I felt fucking aweful due to horrendous cold all day.

Tomorrow, IKEA and then into ze car for a trip to ze land of chocolate and waffles and chocolate waffles. :D

And in honor of impending furnitureism, here's Jonathan Coulton's IKEA.

ETA: OMMFG! Dream! I totally forgot - blessed amnesia - about last night's dream! I don't recall much - and hell if I'm going to actually try - but it involved heavily the Crazy, Kidnapping, Dungeon-Building, Sex-Molesting Bastard. Color me freaked the fuck out. I actually had to get out of bed and pace a bit to ensure the nightmare - not a mere dream, no - would fucking die. (And then I dreamt I just started walking down a highway rather angrily and omg-get-away-now and somehow made it to a McGill something despite knowing I was nowhere near Montreal. Le woe.)

ETA 2:: Muahahahahahaha! Bwahahahaha-*coughcough*-hahahaa! This video wins everything!

Meme-time! c/o Kit-kat:

From What Privileges Do You Have? - Based on an exercise about class and privilege developed by Will Barratt, Meagan Cahill, Angie Carlen, Minnette Huck, Drew Lurker, Stacy Ploskonka at Illinois State University. If you participate in this blog game, they ask that you PLEASE acknowledge their copyright.

Bold the true statements.

1. Father went to college

2. Father finished college (and grad school)
Honestly? No idea.

3. Mother went to college

4. Mother finished college (and grad school)
Again, no idea.

5. Have any relative who is an attorney, physician, or professor.
Broadly speaking, of course.

6. Were the same or higher class than your high school teachers.
I don't understand this statement.

7. Had more than 50 books in your childhood home.

8. Had more than 500 books in your childhood home.
...don't think so, but then again, dunno.

9. Were read children’s books by a parent
Twice (that I recall). Colour me discontent.

10. Had lessons of any kind before you turned 18.
Swimming, riding, gymnsastics, piano.

11. Had more than two kinds of lessons before you turned 18

12. The people in the media who dress and talk like me are portrayed positively.
It was more the other way around, really.

13. Had a credit card with your name on it before you turned 18.

14. Your parents (or a trust) paid for the majority of your college costs

15. Your parents (or a trust) paid for all of your college costs

16. Went to a private high school

17. Went to summer camp
Thrice.

18. Had a private tutor before you turned 18

19. Family vacations involved staying at hotels
Sometimes! Most other times it involved near empty village in the middle of nowhere.

20. Your clothing was all bought new before you turned 18
Not that I had all that much, wearing a school uniform 'n' all. And there's new, and then there's new. I mean, you can buy a burlap sack new. Sorry, I is ill and tired, therefore snarky. My clothes were fine.

21. Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them
I haveth no car, nor will my parents ever buy me one, nor do I expect them to.

22. There was original art in your house when you were a child
Friends with the painter, yo. And then stuff my brother and I did, that's still original. (Seriously, what kind of shit criteria is this?)

23. You and your family lived in a single-family house
Sometimes.

24. Your parent(s) owned their own house or apartment before you left home
Ha! Not even now.

25. You had your own room as a child
Again, sometimes. I actually had no room one year. (The chaos that is my life, see it.)

26. You had a phone in your room before you turned 18
Ha!

27. Participated in a SAT/ACT prep course
Free class after school c/o my brilliant English and Math teachers.

28. Had your own TV in your room in high school
Ha!

29. Owned a mutual fund or IRA in high school or college
I have no idea what this is. (But for the record, no, I don't own bomb-totin' irishmen with questionable life choices.)

30. Flew anywhere on a commercial airline before you turned 16
Comes with the territory, yo. My first flight, I wasn't even 1 year old. Again, here, meme criteria =/= privilege

31. Went on a cruise with your family
When living in Greece, it would've been a crime not to.

32. Went on more than one cruise with your family
And one when Brother of Mine came.

33. Your parents took you to museums and art galleries as you grew up.
It's required touristing modus operandi with us.

34. You were unaware of how much heating bills were for your family
Like we had heating bills most of the time. Yeesh, meme, way to suck much.

[livejournal.com profile] versaphile is, simply put, rocking my socks off with Praxis. And not just the story, but the amount of work, research and organization that goes into it. I just keep having to pick my jaw up off the floor when reading her updates. *fangirls Pam*

Cases in point:

I've spent the last week and a half revising and re-revising my Praxis outline. Today I finally condensed *all* my relevant notes and structured the next five chapters of story (arc 3 7-10, arc 4 1-2), plus extensive plans and notes for everything through the start of arc 7. That's 22 pages of outline plus another half-dozen pages of miscellany and five pages of rough starts on chapter 25. Arc 7 has 21 pages of notes on its own, but I'm leaving that for another time, not the least because I have run out of grey matter.

and

You know how I said 11 chapters for arc 3? Well, that's out the window because I figured out another one of the missing elements and now I have another subplot to figure in to the proceedings. Current estimate is another 1-3 additional chapters for arc 3 alone.

I swear, if this fic hits 1000 pages, fandom needs to collectively buy me a drink.

and

Okay, I've been doing some fiddling and had to revise the Praxis arc plans, again, for there is more content than anticipated. I'm back to a 6 arc plan, which means roughly 35 chapters left to go. 60 chapters total = 600 pages = me writing until December, at my current pace of 1 chapter per week. (The odd 2/ch week averages out with the odd week made of fail.)

All I can say is: it's a good thing I'm pacing myself. O_o And also Doctor/Master fans will have entertainment on Mondays for a long time to come.
