Writing:
Posted Undertow to various Firefly fic communities. *apprehensive smile*

Thursday night I spent on Wiki, reading up on guns again – “researching” – and learned about holsters, firearm modification, handguns – including the Saturday Night Special, mousegun, junk gun and pocket gun. After this I wrote near some 200 words of fic (making a total of 300), which barely grazes the introduction-part of the new scene. There was only a passing mention of a pocket holster and mousegun.

Life:
My life is pretty drab at the moment. I swam three days this week (!), got cancelled on babysitting for as the mom's recupperating from surgery (?), and clicked on a bunch of links, which I'll share. Read more random stuff about this week's events. )

Sociability:

I’ve been trying to comment more on threads and generally be more active on the net. I’ve even given the imdb a shot – on From Hell and OUaTiM. I managed to get a response in FH (about the historical accuracy of the frontal lobotomy depicted), but no one will help me out with the plot hole in OUaTiM. *wails* Coo-ee, one response! Which, unfortunately, doesn't quite help me out, because that still leaves us wondering why Sands would go through all that trouble to just lie there waiting for Ajedrez to come along... *confuzzled*

Last night I spoke with my roommate - hey, we all make mistakes - and got on the topic of Valentines (since she has a beau). I joked about my having a bit of envy, occasionally, when shoved Happy!Couple images in my face. (Envy which I don't have. I save that for the kissing scenes in films.) The talk then descended into a "if you keep hiding out in your room you're not going to make any friends" and "wouldn’t you like to go out with people?" lecture. Read more... )

Random stuff I'm doing:

Retagging my entries (I’m at September, 2005) I’ve realized I have to make masterlists of stuff I’ve linked to. Like, say, comics, artists and fic writers.

I’ve also been making a list of icons that would be cool as theoretical t-shirts. Why? Because I’m weird that way.

Have also decided that one day I'll have to read the first official vampire novel, Carmila.

Films:
I need to watch Army of Darkness, for its quotes be amusing, as well as Ginger Snaps (Go Canadian Horror Films!) and Requiem for a Dream, mainly because the song I have likewise titled is amazing.
As for manga, I need to watch Ghost in the Shell, Blood: The Last Vampire, and Princess Mononoke, for which, I think, NGaiman won some sort of prize for his English translation/adaptation.

[livejournal.com profile] matociquala writes a truly beautiful post on hope and what exactly it means to be broken. The comments are insightfull too.

* Monty Python, The Life of Brian - I so need to watch this again.

Double-day-posting, yes, but because organizing all this in one would have been evil.

A while back I started looking into 21 Jumpstreet - which I missed out watching through no fault of my own (i.e. waaay to young). Peter DeLuise looks gorram familiar, yet his filmography rings no bells. Maybe its just his resemblance to Dave Coulier of Full House? (No, not the hot uncle (have mercy!).).

I’ve now seen a few clips (including this hilarious bit of slash-innuendo**).

However, I think I could forgive this show any number of shortcummings due to this most beautiful bit of writing:Read more... )

I think I need to watch a clip of this because Tom Hanson’s played by JDepp and if the words bring me to tears, I can only imagine what his performance will bring me to.

Shocked sobbing, most likely.

Particularly since this really, really short music vid also brings me to near-tears. (And makes me really want to watch the ep. Which is, apparently, called "Swallowed Alive". Fanvid here.)

Incidently, JDepp has been in various music videos (as opposed to just fanvids), such as Tom Petty’s Into the Great Wide Open, Lemonheads’ It's A Shame About Ray and Shane MacGowan and the Pope’s That Woman's Got Me Drinking.

He and a whole boat-load of other celebrities appear in Johnny Cash’s God’s Gonna Cut You Down.

Careful when watching this vid. The first time I did, I sat still for a while in emotional shock. *hold me* If there’d been willing arms, I would have asked them to***. That is one harrowing song. (Except don’t read the comments, which descend into a cesspool of atheism vs religion. It’ll make you tear your hair out and scream, “Oh the humanity!”)

Having realized through all this that there’s more on YouTube than fanvids, I also looked up Daniel Belanger and Cowboys Fringants out of Montreal-yearning. There’s not much on Belanger, but I found the Cowboy Fringant's Toune d’Automne and have been listening to it non-stop. I’d forgotten how much I loved this song. *sings* Anyway, je suis content que tu r'viennes, t'arrives en meme temps que l'automne. I miss Quebec!

By the by, Wolf4life fanvid editor (she of “Shut Me Up”) is quite good. She has this brilliant vid mixing of the films “The Brave” and “Bennie and Joon” (which I know I’ve watched but can’t remember a whit of) where she also mixes Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and Oasis’ “Wonderwall”. Beautiful music results. Her From Hell’s It’s Been a While by Staind is neat. Currently, though, I'm hooked on The Libertine's Bitches. I cannot get enough of this song. Mindless Self Indulgence is winning me over! (Click to their webpage. OMG the octopus! the bunny!)

JDepp fanvids:
Everytime, So Sexy (indeed!), Leading Man, Toxic (meh, but it ends well, and the stairs-scene from Donnie Brasco is certainly worth watching), Filthy/Gorgeous, Classic Cut, JDepp Actor Trailer (1 of 3)

The Libertine:
Opening Monologue, Ending Monologue, TV Spot and Interview, Behind the Scenes

Other:
Willy Wonka's Advice
Really good Jack Sparrow impersonation

* Off. Judy Hoffs, 21 Jump Street
** Or maybe I just read too much slash? But come on!
*** If I ever watch The Brave, I think I'll need some willing arms as well, considering how the very idea**** of the film makes me quiver.
**** Summary: A down-on-his-luck American Indian recently released from jail is offered the chance to "star" as the victim of a snuff film, the resulting pay of which could greatly help his poverty stricken family. Spoilery Depp internview here.
