Over on [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2's LJ again, there's another meme of posting the first lines of your unfinished fics, and explaining a bit about them.

I have way too many unfinished fics.

The Lines:

1) Francis heard the music the moment he stepped out of the elevator.

2) Few things start when you die.

3) "What the guĭ are you doin’?"

4a) "It’s been such a long time since I had a new toy," she whispered.
4b) Gadril had never understood the prophecy that hailed a time of change "when the doves cry".

5) Jayne was a man of few rules: shoot first, don’t ask questions, keep your guns loaded and your knives sharp, take what you can when you can.

6) Charles "Chip" Northrup sank down into the driver's seat and thumbed the lock.

7) Our poor and cruelly over-worked heroine sat at her desk, bent over her papers (a posture she would, no doubt, tisk at when old, infirm, and hobbling about with one hand on a cane, the other at her paining back).

8) She woke up alone.

9) The father sat by the fire in his living room, having a smoke after an early dinner.

10) The woman found herself standing before a large window, the top of which towered over her.

11) This was her sixth death.

12) Onerai smiled coquettishly at him, tossing her hair in the sun as it streamed in through the window.

13) Walking down a city street, Logan bustled through the crowds, oblivious of them, deep in thought.

14) "Piss off", he muttered at the already retreating back.

15) "There's an angel dying upstairs."

The Explanations:

1) Original - This starts off somewhere in the middle of an angstarrific fic. Better explained here.

2) Original - A zombie-but-not story, where the character is perfectly normal, except for the whole "corpse" thing. Excerpts here and inspiration here.

3) Firefly - One of those experiments I do, with an accidentally time-jumping and fandom-hopping girl who just happens to have cyclical amnesia.

4) Original - 4a is the first line written for this story-arc, which basically was created because of that one line. 4b is what could be the Prologue. This fic, Servants of the Dark, is original content, and deals with deals with Upworlders and Those of the Dark, the age-long pact that few remember and some want to break. It also deals with the unwritten pact that forms between one from Above and one from Below, and the blood shed between them. My neat little tagline: Those from Above forgot the pact, and those from Below want to break it. This is one of the few fics I still get guilty over and swear to work on.

This fic has a brother-fic to it, all planned out but without anything written but the quote, for which I can't find the author: "Stripped of harp, halo and wings / and sent hurtling into darkness." About a little girl and the wierd mass of congniscent solid darkness she makes into a friend. Creepy monster or fallen angel?

5) Firefly - A Tricky Business. I got stuck on a scene, and that's been the end of that. I don't quite know where I'm going with it, as Original Character's seriously side-tracked the plot, one-chapter scenes turned into two, then three...

6) Original - I've got 2 1/2 vignettes on Chip, and I still don't know who he is, why he's running, and what he's done. Must've been bad, though.

7) Original - Hero's Manual may be unfinished, but it's got a crackin' 21 chapters. Again, got stuck on a scene, feel guilty about it, won't ever give up on it.

8) Original - More than a Couple possibly has too many pairings - being basically one huge relationship-orgy - and very little plot. I'm still quite proud of the bath tub scenes, though, even if I scrapped the PWP bit of it.

9) Planet of the Apes: 2001 - Degrees of Freedom, my pride and bane. I started this in the fall of 2001, and have been working on it since then. (I think this year may be the first I haven't touched it. Yet.) The first scenes I wrote are going to end up near the middle, considering I've heavily extened the end part and kept on writting earlier scenes. ("Well, how did they meet? Ok, and why was she there? Alright, new character, what was he up to?") I won't give up on this baby! There's a hell of a lot of original stuff here too.

10) Star Wars: Phantom Menace - Another time-jumping and fandom-hopping girl. This one casts her lot in with the Sith - not a smart move. Elements of prescience, some hookey with the Force, major ramblings on Good/Evil, Alliances and whatnot, and a few extra scenes which really form no part of the story but have no place to go. I have the typed out notes with me, but the majority of it is scribbled on paper, locked in a box, in Spain. Which sucks, 'cause I really do think it's got good elements. Also explained here.

11) Original - Mostly just a vague idea, and all I've got written of it officially is that first line. It's about a woman who's trained to hold a type of wake over people as they die.

12) X Men, but could be Original - I'd completely forgotten about this one. Basically, seriously crazy chick finally gets to walk the grounds with (body)guard. Hints are made that she's actually quite dangerous also, but apart from some interesting dialogue, we've got nothin'.

13) X Men - Wolverine bumps into a woman from his past. Mostly a study of how she would deal with it emotionally, having thought him dead, and then finding him again, but with amnesia and a hell of a lot of emotional baggage.

14) X Men - Centers mainly on Toad (and I'm quite proud of some of the character-study bits in it), who lugs back a guinea pig human for Magneto's first run of his mutant-making-machine. The machine doesn't work quite well and Toad feels sorry for his part in it. Events post first film also dealt with. (And damn, I like what I did with Scott and his musing.)

15) Original - Largely based on a dream, where there is, in fact, a very angelic-looking man dying alone in an abandoned apartment building. I've written the first few lines to it, set in a post-apocalyptic world, where an insurance accountant or somesuch breaks into said apartment building, only to be confronted by a little kid asking for a doctor.

So that's that. I guess I could post some excerpts of these fics. Maybe that way I'd write them. But then, no one really reads [livejournal.com profile] sickle_stories anyway, and I don't quite feel up to posting them in god-knows-which comms.

ooh! *raises hand* I visit sickle_stories once and a while to see what's new!! Unfortunately I suck at writing, so I never know how to comment... but I like your stories a lot =)

(I'm sure there are lurkers around as well, but they're hard to trace)
