On January 3, 1980, in Shaba Reserve in Kenya, Adamson's body was discovered by her assistant, Peter Morson (sometimes reported as Pieter Mawson). He mistakenly assumed that Joy had been killed by a lion, and this was what was initially reported by the media.

Further police investigation found that Joy's wounds were too sharp and bloodless to have been caused by an animal, and concluded that Joy was murdered with a sharp instrument. Paul Nakware Ekai, a discharged labourer formerly employed by Adamson, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison, escaping capital punishment by hanging because the judge ruled that he was a minor when the crime was committed.

I've always admired Joy. I remember reading Queen of Shaba: The Story of an African Leopard, after going through, chronologically, all of her books on individual animals. It ends with a poem - which I copied down somewhere - and the note that one evening she went out for a walk and didn't come home. Later, she was found dead.

I wish I'd never found out she'd been murdered.

A lion purportedly "clearly" roaring "Allah". Pshaw. You hear what you want to hear (and lion roars can be described as "aaaouu, aaaouu, aaaouu", anyway). Also, that's a normal ol' roar (if a tad high-pitched). Compare and listen and check it out That's what we call variability in the population. They don't all sound the same.

Gods, what an absolute racket is being made over this. One person comments**: "I'm not muslim but I still think this is amazing, doesn't really sound like much but still, no matter what religion just proves faith is everywhere even if it is coincidence." Well that makes no sense*** at all. How can it "not really sound like much" and still "prove faith is everywhere" and be "coincidence"? Coincidences are not proof, and if you can't hear anything, then that's not proof either. Oh, look, you can't see the purple cow but that prooves there's pink milk in the world. Yeah.) And what kind of person would I have to be for this sort of thing to get me interested in Islam?****

And, honestly, this is just clutching at straws: "not only does it say allah but it says hu a few times which is another meaning for allah". Okay, people, that is how all lions end their roars. It's called a grunt, transcribed as "staccato huh, huh, huh's" (Take a listen and again.)

It's bloody normal, not a sign from god.

I hate it when ignorance of nature is the basis for religious straw-clutching.

ETA: Fuck LJ and it's stupid little TV-box after every link. Ruin my post's asthetics, will you. I don't need no stinkin' snapshot.
ETA2: Oh dear gods, it's 2:37. Thanksfully, no class tomorrow. However, am in pain (sofa not meant to be sat on for hours on end) and headachey. :(

**** I have the utmost respect for Islam, and more than a good share of knowledge about it too. What I don't like is the whole, "omg irrevocable proof of god 'cause of lion roar". I've seen trees grow into crucifixes, lions lay down with lambs, and Mary on toast. None are acceptable as proof. (Well, proof of god. Proof of infinite-possibilities in time-and-space? Y'ok.)

Do people really think lions actually say "rawr" when they roar?? Sounds like normal lion noise to me...It's the same with cats (I have yet to hear a real meow out of mine xD He has more of a nya nyaa").

I feel like there should be a snarky Douglas Adams quote about things like this. I'll let you know if I find one ;)

btw, what is up with the TV box??? is this new??

The horrible little TV-box is ultra-new but it can totally be dominated if you wave your mouse over one so that it opens up a little snapshot of what the link is about, and then pick "disable for all" or somesuch.

Also, the conditions the Allah-lion is kept in don't fill my heart with joy. :(
