...into the contents of a Samsonite bag.*
Mom and I are taking a small break. We've packed most everything today, which means that the most material of problems are basically solved.
Since my initial plane ticket has a return set for Sept 22, we've set up 2 suitcase: one I'll take now, one I'll pick up Saturday, Sept 22. We've just bought a cheap-ass ticket (which isn't so cheap-ass as asses would indicate, once you add up the booking fee and taxes) for that weekend.
Inexplicably, insurance invoice hasn't gotten here yet, which, unless it gets here tomorrow, will mean I scamper off to Leiden without having paid it. Which brings us to yet another lovely Domino Effect of Chaos Expressedly Designed to Prevent Me From Registering At the University.
This Domino Effect of Chaos can also be seen in the Lack of Dutch Address chain reaction, which means I a) can't register at town hall, which means I can't register at the university, and b) can't open a Dutch bank account, which means I can't register at the unviersity. Not registering at the unversity means I can't register of courses on time, meaning they get filled up and then I lose out on being able to register. It also means I lose out on the Basic Statistics quick-course Sept 3-7.
Although I've been getting very mixed signals about when and how I'm supposed to register (e.g. at the introduction for international student August 30 or the program introduction Sept 3). Emails were sent, tales of woe were not mourned and questions were not satisfactorially answered. More emails have been sent.
I'm trying to get a reservation at a Bed and Breakfast in Leiden for at least the weekend, if not the whole of next week, rather than galavanting about between Leiden and Amsterdam. Emailed them today, hope they respond by tomorrow.
Have miraculously failed to crumble into a thousand pieces, though there have been a few cracks.
Mom'll be coming with me to the airport, which is much, much appreciated.
