I love heartbeats. I love how sometimes, just sitting there, I can feel my pulse in the crook of my elbow, behind my knee, just below my ear... I'll press my thumb at the base of my throat, that spot so loved by The English Patient's title character Almasy. "What do you call this hollow below a woman's neck?" he asked, and I have yet to find an answer. It would be such a sad thing for that part to be unnamed.

Sometimes I can feel a soft throbbing all over my skin and I picture that bit of muscle the size of my fist hidden beneath my ribs, nestled with my lungs: it's amazing how tireless it it, how rhythmic this little engine is. Like a catalyzer "it appears to be everything."

That's why I loved using my brother as a pillow when I was younger. We'd lie down on the couch to watch TV and I'd cuddle up and listen to the complementary rhythms of his heart and breath. I miss that.


Paul Bettany's on in The Reckoning as a priest (this time with melanin). Oh, look, how different: he's disillusioned, manipulated and resorts to beating people up... He's still pale, still hot, and thankfully still has a naked scene.

Very nice editing in the film with repeating falls from different angles and Willem Dafoe seriously needs some flesh on his cheeks.

Hoban Knows Best scared the beejeebers out of me today because on his 17-year-old daughter's first weekend alone at the beach house he was payed the pizza guy to look out for guys at the house, called in a fake AC-fixer to do another house-check, bought spy material, and actually dressed up like a ninja to drive over and spy.

And when the girl said she hadn't eaten all day due to being a culinary failure? He ordered her a pizza. I think a 17-year-old should be able to do that herself. So Hoban, next time, leave the ninja-gear, say "Why don't you order a pizza?" instead of "I'll order you a pizza," and understand that The Pill isn't just to stave off unwanted pregnancies but also to corect hormonal imbalances. And for god's sake, understand that your daughter might not want to talk to you about her periods.

Now watching Alien: Resurrection for the first time, thrilled to see that it was written by Joss Whedon. It's providing a clear example of unethical experiments and Sigourney's character is giving me grown-up-River vibes, all crazy/creepy superwoman. Ah, Joss, you and your Wonder Women.
