How do I explain this... I'm writing a story set in the Firefly fandom, which is set in 2517 A.D. Humanity has populated many planets, some being rich (those in the Core) and some not so much (the Rim). The planet the brothel is on, Persephone, is a civilized planet with heavily stratified societal structure and monarchy. It also has a large slum population, e.g. the Eavesdown Docks, where the spaceships park to trade and refuel. Info from fireflywiki.org
The brothel itself, The Red Barrel, has recently changed its location to a bigger place in the Eavesdown Docks and gotten new and fancier (and well-trained) whores. This means the price has gone up a bit, which our character isn't pleased to discover.
About the money:
There appear to be either two currencies or two levels of currency: platinum and credits, where 1 credit = 2.5 platinum (and thus 1 platinum = 0.4 credits). Two thousand credits pay a heavy jail bail. A common immune booster (10-15 ml) sells on the black market for 50 p (20 c). Other medications sell for 80 and 200 p.
A cow, sold on a Rim planet illegally, gets haggled down to 25 credits.
I'm hoping to compare the price of a whole night with the whore to the price of a round of bullets. I'm assuming bullets would cost more. I could say they're fancy bullets.
